Update!

Sorry for the radio silence, I’m getting very close to being able to share a few exciting little projects and some news. For now I’m just digging through a lot of sketchbooks going back 10 years. Here are some studies for a shelved short film w an old creative partner. Plus some TOH thingies you’ve probably seen before.

Drawing as a habit

I’ve spoken before about my creative burn out after Owl House and probably one of the worst effects it had on me was breaking my sketching habit. It now feels uncomfortable to start drawing, even though I’ve done it all my life! Being disciplined doesn’t mean tackling big challenges all the time, it means repeating a task often enough that it becomes a habit, and once it’s a habit you start experimenting and playing and growing. I still have so much to learn but I have to get used to ...

Back to figure drawing

I’m trying very hard to make figure drawing a more regular thing again. I’m mainly using brush pens because I don’t want to get too fiddly with details. I’m confident at this point that I know my way around human anatomy but, figure drawing is just a great meditative way to keep your pencil moving even when your brain is a little dead. These aren’t very beautiful, but I had a great time drawing them and that’s really the only thing that matters anymore.

It was a joy to be called back to help with some rough animation for the last episodes of Ducktales! Here's a little bit I did for my angry boy. I like how chunky his tears came out.

Had to take the week to prep and recover from MomoCon.

DT retakes

Was going through old folders, organizing everything into a new work computer I needed to get when I came across a bunch of old DT animations I'll start sharing.

As a director I got to call out animation retakes and sometimes went over the corrections myself. If there's a language barrier between studios, draw overs help A THOUSAND times more than a detailed description, most times. And it can ensure everyone learns the show style quickly! It can be grueling for both sides, the pipeline...

Fun fact:

In 2017 I did some concepts for the Mario Movie! Well- a completely different version of it from a completely different writer/director which left me uncredited but that's the way it goes in sometimes. These came out cute, at least!
