"Saturn Valley" Phone + Tablet Wallpapers

Even though EarthBound/Mother didn't win the poll, I wanted to make one for fun! I've included two versions - one with a sort of vintage, papery texture overlaid, and a cleaner one without any texture.

Weekly Sketchbook #19

We bought a lot of apples recently, so I tried using those as a basis for different ideas. The shape of a halved apple is really cool...

The drawing of the person lying on his side is actually from last year, back when I was attending figure drawing. Since I was toting this gigantic pad of newsprint back and forth every time and it was becoming increasingly rainy, the instructor told me I could leave it there, but then within days everything closed down due to the initial spread of covi...

"Sweets" Phone Wallpaper

Cardcaptor Sakura won the poll, so this month's phone wallpaper features Kero and Spinel! It's been made with a little extra space at the top and on the sides, so it can be zoomed in or dragged to fit most phone screens.

Weekly Sketchbook #18

Lots of pink this time! I also tried messing around more with the leaf drawing, but I'm not sure I'm coming up with anything good, so I might just set it down for now.

Also, Cardcaptor Sakura won the phone wallpaper poll, so I included a preview here!

"Sweet Citrus" Process

This one was a little different from my usual way of working because I wanted to try experimenting with new methods! I also want to talk about this one specifically since it touches a subject that a lot of people avoid at all costs: tracing.

With tracing, the big, unshakeable rule is to never trace anything that you didn't create yourself or that you don't have permission / the rights to use (yes, this includes photographs). As long as you're following that guideline, I think it has the...

August wallpaper poll

Here's the poll for this month's phone wallpaper! Like last month, I might end up drawing more than just the winner, but the winner is the only one that's guaranteed.

If there's anything you'd like me to consider adding to next month's poll, feel free to leave a comment! (Both fanart requests and original prompts are welcome!)

Monthly update + INPRNT code

I'm going to start doing quick beginning-of-the-month updates that take care of general housekeeping and let you know what I'm up to!

First, I want to remind everyone that the tier changes that I mentioned previously go into effect this month! Also, I'm going to change a few of the past wallpaper posts to $3 in the next two or so days, so if you aren't in the $3 tier and would like to save them beforehand, pl...

"Madoka Magica" Full res + PSD + Lineart

This one is from all the way back in 2015! Even though it looks nothing like my current art, and even though I retired it as a print a long time ago, I still sometimes have people asking about it, so I want to make it available here.

The above images are previews - the downloadable jpeg and PSDs are attached below.

Conditions: You're more than welcome to use these files as study tools, coloring practice, or even to print a poster for your own personal use! All tha...

Weekly Sketchbook #17

I feel like the more I do these the more I want to try making prints and comics like this? I've felt stagnant for a long time, but I've been getting really excited about the potential of art again recently, especially about the potential of imperfections. I've always really liked looking at art that sort of shows the human behind it, where you can see smudge marks and unused sketch lines and stuff, but I personally have a hard time letting myself leave them in. I think it's really easy to fal...

Weekly Sketchbook #16

Kind of a light (and rough) update this time since I'm resting my wrist!

I'm still trying to force myself to do quick backgrounds somewhat regularly, especially since I'm trying really hard to nail down concepts for something. I always spend too much time on backgrounds (especially ones with buildings), but I feel like doing these rough ones is helping me slowly loosen up and figure out which parts are the most important in creating something cohesive / decent-looking.

Also, I mig...

Nana

I've been wanting to draw a Nana print for a while, so I'm so glad I was able to put aside some time for this! I actually still haven't seen much of the anime (I only tried watching it after reading the manga), but when I was a teen I listened to the music a lot, and it was really nostalgic to listen to it again while drawing. This one is really red!

I've been re-reading Delicious in Dungeon recently, and I love how solid and tangible the art feels, and just how good the artist is at different faces and body types. It makes me want to get back into figure drawing when I get the chance.

I'm also finally drawing a Nana print...!! I've been meaning to draw one for a while now!

Changes to tiers/rewards

Hey everyone! I wanted to give an early heads up about some changes that I'll be implementing next month! I'm adding a few things plus moving some rewards around.

The biggest change comes to phone wallpapers - originally, these were mostly going to be crops of existing work that only happened occasionally, which is why they were available at the $1 tier. Going forward I want to make them a more regular, customized reward, so I'm putting a lot more work into them than I expected...! Beca...

"Morning Ritual" Process

This one is from last year, but it's still a favorite of mine, so I want to talk about it a little!

1) The thumbnail, which was drawn in Procreate on an iPad 9.7". Originally she actually had bunny ears, too, but since bunny ears are so tall, they pushed the composition too far down, so I erased them. You can also see that my initial thought was to have the bunnies coming out of something like a jar of cottonballs - but it occurred to me that the visual of a jar packed ...

I've had Tales of Symphonia on my mind lately for some reason! I really really want to play it again and then make a nice print of it one day.

I'm also considering opening chibi commissions sometime in the future, so I'm practicing drawing them in the meantime (also I just think they're super fun to draw)

The last image in the set is potential ideas for the wallpapers. Madoka is still winning the poll, but I might still make a Kirby one after that just for fun since it's a close r...

Phone wallpaper poll

I've been having a lot of fun making wallpapers and want to make more, but I always have a hard time choosing between ideas, so I want to start running polls to help determine what the next one will be! (PS, I'm really glad you've been enjoying them, too!)

Also, if you have any suggestions that you'd like me to consider adding to future polls, feel free to leave them in a comment below!

Suggestions for future rewards?

Since we're nearing the end of month three and I feel like I've fully settled in, I thought this would be a good time to ask whether there's anything else you'd like to see here / any other rewards you'd like me to offer! If you have something in mind, feel free to leave a comment below and I'll be sure to take it into consideration. While I can't guarantee that I'll implement anything new in the very near future, I've been having a lot of fun maintaining this page, so I want to start trying ...

Weekly Sketchbook #13

Things have gotten a little busy over here, but I'm still trying to make room for sketching! We ended up having to extend our spontaneous kitten fostering, and I've also started putting together a pitch for what will hopefully become a new book. It'll probably be a while before I can share anything from it, but I can't wait for you guys to see it!!

Weekly Sketchbook #12

I drew a little Ichigo for fun, but any time I draw her I have to draw the others, so now I'm planning to turn them all into a cute phone wallpaper set! Maybe they could also be mini prints?

I also doodled a patron request (Leorio with a big bouquet), but that naturally led to me drawing Gon and Killua, too. I feel like I've finally started to get a handle on Gon's hair, so I want to try drawing them more.

I'm trying to start getting into doodling scenery more, too! I want to get ...

SatG Page 25 Process

This is a page from The Sprite and the Gardener that people seemed to like, so I want to talk about it a little bit! Since this was drawn a while back I don't have a ton of specific process notes, so this will be a little more about my thoughts along the way.

1) The thumbnail, which is obviously very rough, but honestly ended up being pretty close to the end result! The only things that I knew I really wanted were a) to have their expressions somewhat call back to View Post

Weekly Sketchbook #11

Did a little more traditional sketching this week! I've decided I want to start pushing myself to color whatever I put down in my sketchbook, since I feel like it might help me think up new techniques. I actually really like the way these look lineart-wise, though, so I'd kind of like to try making some prints this way eventually. (I also want to make a full set of TMM girls to match the Mint... I'm thinking about it)

I didn't do any requests this week, but I'm going to try getting back...

"Steven Universe" Full res + PSD + Lineart

I want to try something new around here, so every once in a while I'm going to pick one of my older retired prints and post a full res JPEG / layered PSD / lineart! While my methods have changed a lot over the years, I still think that it could be fun to click through and see how it all comes together. The PSD also includes the thumbnail and sketch.

The files above are a preview - I've uploaded the PSDs/JPEGs as attachments which can be downloaded below.

Sorry if this one is a little scarce - we ended up finding ANOTHER kitten that we've been taking care of!?

I tried another patron request, which was strawberry demons bobbing in an iced drink! On the left is the initial design for the demons, which I used while drawing the request. I actually really love these guys, I want to try cleaning this up as a full illustration once I have time!

I also recently designed these little cherry twins who grew from a single stem - their names ar...

"Bed and Breakfast" Process

I finally took some time to put together a process post for this image! Since this one was drawn more recently, I was able to go a little more in depth. This image was drawn at 6000 x 6000 px.

1) The thumbnail, drawn in Procreate on a 9.7 iPad. This was based on two separate patron requests, one for something bread-related and one for sleeping bears. Between the bread and the bears, I could already tell that this image was going to be way too beige, so I added some visu...

Request thread!

I really enjoyed last month's sketch request thread, so I want to try it again! Even if I've already drawn one of your suggestions, feel free to leave a prompt or request for anything (even fanart or OCs!), just keep in mind:

- This is more just something for me to do in my downtime, so I can't promise that I'll get to your request!
- When it comes to fanart, I'm more likely to draw characters that I'm familiar with.
- Like last time, I'll be posting these in my weekly sketchbooks...

This week's sketches, including the last of the request prompts! (summer eva kids + 80s-inspired angel)

Thank you for a fun second month! I really do feel like having a place to post sketches has been good for me. I want to try messing around with traditional mediums again soon!

Also, I wanted to ask - do you guys have any preference for how often you'd like me to post sketchbooks? I'm not sure what proper patreon etiquette is when it comes to post frequency, and I don't want it t...

SatG Page 01 Process

While I can't post very many of them, I want to show the process behind pages of Sprite and the Gardener every once in a while. Since the book was drawn a while ago (2019 I think?), I don't have very much of the process documented anymore, so while I'll give a basic rundown of the process, it's going to be more like a general discussion. If you find yourself wanting to see individual techniques/tools explained in more detail, I have two companion posts that can be used alongside this: View Post
