TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 9 - Family Matters

I'd like to hear people's opinion on this one... does the tone change to quickly, or is believable?

“Why aren’t there any frogs here?” I heard Issi ask as we finally made our way back to the family.

“Miss Isabelle, I believe I taught you that frogs were primarily found around freshwater ponds and streams, they didn’t live under the ocean,” her frog bot of a teacher explained.

“Well, they should have, frogs make everything better,” I...

Unexpected Guests - Interlude 3 - Post Fight Interview

So, here's what I've decided. The rest of this week: UG. That'll put me a week ahead on the chapters. Starting next week... one, or two UG, and back to the regulars. I'd like to start DD, but after UG. It's been awhile since I wrote DD so I want have time to re-read it and actually plan things out. Since I normally just have a vague idea of where things are going, and just bang chapters out, this is quite a difference. I guess I want to do it credit.

After next week UG rele...

Unexpected Guests - Chapter 8 - Don’t lose your head!

“Seriously, who throws sticks in this day and age?” Bandit ranted as the team collected themselves.

“Do I really need to remind you that we’re on another world, and that what we’re familiar with no longer counts as normal,” Deadbeat exclaimed as she wandered up and examined my armor. “Seems like their weapons pack quite a punch, despite being more archaic than we’re used to. Too bad you never sprung for the auto repair function for your armor, guess you’re stuck ...

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 8 - Aquatic Art

Of course, the kids being kids, immediately rushed to the entrance of the aquatic garden and piled through the door the instant they were given permission. Thankfully Bob and the foxes were only a few steps behind them, so someone would be keeping an eye on them until Jane, Alan and I could catch up.

I’d expected to find the kids scattered around the building by the time we caught up, so when we found them standing just inside the door I was pleasantly surprised. It was only when I fo...

Unexpected Guests - Chapter 7 - Training Arc

Okay! So, the schedule this week... As I mentioned this is going to end up being signifigantly longer than I expected. How long? Probably 25+ chapters. Two-ish chapters per floor with an interlude between each.

I COULD do UG until it's done, because that would get me into a position to start DD book two as early as next month, but feels bad to abandon those other two stories.

Right now I'm considering doing 2-3 UG a week, giving DD and IM either once a week, or alt...

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 7 - The City on the Coast

“Look at all that water!” Jennifer gasped after I slowly pulled the truck out of the ship's hanger and turned towards Vancouver.

Although the coast was still a few kilometers away the Strato Carrier had been traveling at such a high altitude that the ocean was still clear, even at this distance. The kids all pushed against the window, and let out a chorus of oh’s and ah’s.

“We’re going to get a chance to take a closer look, right?” Eddie asked quietly, not taki...

Unexpected Guests - Interlude 2 - Early Evaluations

Little short today, but I think that's okay because it really gets the point across.

I'm begining to realize that this is going to be MUCH longer than I originally intended. I originally planned to have the story mostly finished by now, but it's barely started. If I've learned anything from this week it's that I really love DD, and want to get back to writing it, and I'm terrible at scheduleing.

I haven't decided what to do about this... I don't want to dedicate a...

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 6 - The Planning Phase

“Did everyone have enough breakfast?” I asked as I shoved the frying pan into the dishwasher.

“Enough? I’m stuffed! Why did you make such a big meal?” Alan asked.

“It’s the first time we’ve visited a new city,” I explained. “So I wanted it to be special!”

“Haven’t you visited other towns and cities before?” Jennifer asked. “Like, we’re planning to swing by Seattle so you can visit the friends you met there last time.”

“That was a wor...

Unexpected Guests - Chapter 6 - Clear Cut

I stared up at the massive Treent as it slowly straightened up, towering over Bob. It had to be close to six meters tall, and that was without its branch like arms reaching toward the sky. Dozens of slimes clung to blackened, black, bark-like skin which would have provided it with the perfect camouflage if it had been standing in the forest.

It hadn’t been though, it had been sitting here, waiting.

The two of us exchanged a long glance, evaluating each other. I coul...

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 5 - Night Falls

This chapter kind of goes all over the place... why it took so long to make the trip to Vancouver, Nyx disliking Spooky's methods, and even the consequences of Teddy's upgrades. Even managed to tie in a small thread from the last book. Been awhile since I just had a Nyx/Evelyn episode, and I don't hate it.

Once the kids had worn themselves out I helped put them to bed. Then, after another hour, Jane and Alan also retired, leaving me alone in the kitchen.

Unexpected Guests - Chapter 5 - It Begins

As soon as the timer hit zero the transparent wall fell away, exposing the path beyond. I stuck my head out to take a look, and was immediately hit with a horrid stench so bad that I had to pop my helmet back on.

The room had opened up onto a combination of forest, and swamp. The sky overhead was dark, and overcast, only allowing the moon to peak through briefly before disappearing again. Ahead of us was a wide dirt road, flanked by blue lanterns and overshadowed by massive, rotting bla...

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 4 - Playtime

When I stepped out of my room I found the residential area suspiciously quiet. The area was usually filled with the sounds of Issi and Eddie’s games, or Jennifer’s tinkering, but when I stepped out of my room there was nothing.

I quickly slipped down the hallway and into the main residential area, only to find Jane and Alan sitting at the kitchen table. Calmly sipping some sort of warm beverages, reading their tablets.

“Hey…Good morning,” I said, glancing around the area...

Unexpected Guests - Chapter 4 - Challenge Accepted

When I emerged from Lanivia’s lair a couple minutes later the squad all rushed forward.

“You okay boss? Everything okay? What did she say?” Bandit asked.

My meeting with the Lich was strange, some parts of our discussion were extremely clear while others were… what did we talk about? I shook my head, trying to clear the fogginess.

“She was polite, and quiet, but she had this presence. It was intense to say the least,” I explained before shaking my head agai...

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 3 - Complete rejuvenation treatment

I awoke with a start, jumping straight from unconsciousness to full awareness without the usual groggy intermediary step I was used to. I could make out the roof of my cabin with extreme, frightening detail; Every rivet, scratch and imperfection.

The last time I’d undergone a bionic upgrade I’d awoken a little sore, this time absolutely everything hurt. No, it wasn’t just that it hurt, it was that I was keenly aware of every part of my body. I could even feel my hair, which ...

Unexpected Guests - Interlude 1 - Observations

I'm not sure how to do the Talia side of things, I kind of wanted to show both sides, like I did in DD during the fights, but it doesn't feel right. I don't think there would be enough Talia sections to be worth it, so I settled on Interludes for now. We'll see how it goes, may change the method later.

“Talia… Tali… Tal?” I sighed and brushed Kassandra’s probing finger away as she tried to poke me in the side.

“I can hear you,” I muttered, ...

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 2 - Cast off!

The ship thrummed, vibrating faintly as the main drive engines kicked in and slowly drove the Stratocarrier away from Calgary. Spooky had decided early on to take command of the bridge, and he was expertly commanding the bears as they controlled and monitored the different ship systems, so I didn’t feel the need to intervene. Instead I just sat at the monitoring station, flipping through the dozens of different cameras placed around the outside of the ship.

They did a pretty good job ...

New Title Page!

Hey all,

Just wanted to let you know that I was messing around, trying to make a title page for Unexpected Guests, and realized I hadn't updated the TBoB title page ... ever.

So I jumped online generated some AI pictures until I found what I wanted and even added text. I'll miss the old one, it was kind of iconic, but I do kind of love the new one.

Oh, and before anyone asks, yes, I absolutely want to commission a real title page from an artist, so I can release an actual...

Unexpected Guests - Chapter 3 - Mind your Manor

I stepped back and stared at the well dressed man for a moment. “How could she be expecting us? I didn’t even know this place existed an hour ago.”

“I’m afraid I’m not privy to all her secrets,” Luther replied smoothly. As he swept a hand in front of his face in one of his exaggerated motions the mask changed to an apologetic expression. “All I know is that she asked me to go to the front gate and wait for you, saying ‘I’d know you when I see you’.”

TBoB - Book 5 - Chapter 1 - Travel Plans

“Evelyn Claire…” Jane’s cold voice echoed around the airship’s residential area, causing a sense of dread to build up in me. “I believe you promised me that this would be a casual, family friendly cruise. Why was the hangar bay absolutely stuffed full of bears?”

“Not for the reason you think!” I replied, jumping off my chair and reflexively putting the kitchen table between Jane and myself. It wasn’t that I was afraid of her, I just wanted to give myself time to expl...

Unexpected Guests - Chapter 2 - Spectacle

There a lot of talking in this one, but I like it! Not only does it help introduce the world to those that don't know DD, but it allowed me to flesh out some of the lore of the world! Win Win!

It only took about half an hour for Oscar and Dorthia to lead us out of the wilderness and out onto a main road. The cobblestone corridor was surprisingly smooth, despite its rough construction, and filled with various wagons and carts. Once we joined the traffic it did...

TBoB Book 5 - Prologue - Last minute prep

“How are your preparations going?” Charlotte asked as she took a sip of her coffee and leaned back in her chair.

The two of us were sitting in her ‘temporary’ office in the Family’s local branch office.I didn’t like to come to  the Family compound that often, I knew what Charlotte had been going through the last few weeks and I didn’t mind letting her use me as an excuse to take a break

A technical breakdown

So, I wanted to make the title and summary to be mysterious enough that the free members wouldn't get spoiled by the story. If you can read this and you don't want spoils, stop reading now!

I completed my writing super early today, because I couldnt' sleep, so I thought I'd give you a little extra today.

Now that I've padded it enough let me give you a breakdown of my plans for Teddy's new flagship Bear Force One. (Note: I found this picture, but couldn't find the original so I ...

It here! First chappy done! I tried to start further into the story, but I felt that I needed to setup the setting better before the meat of the story. Hope you enjoy!

“Boss, something’s coming,” Bandit hissed as I fired wildly at the end of the narrow alley we were holed up in, cutting down the Antithesis as fast as they turned the corner.

“You want to be a little more specific?” I growled. “Because from where I’m standing it looks like a ...

TBoB - Book 4 - Epilogue - High On Victory

I tried to come up with a link between the last chapter and this one, but I felt like going from a home chapter to this one would feel a little slow, and you get your splash of family here so...

As you might have gathered from the title, this is the end of book 4. I may go back, read the last couple chapters and see if anything else needs to be added, but I can't think of anything.

I hinted at my plans for the next book below. I'm planning on having a couple collabs...

Fanfiction Subject

So... Today Raven confirmed that the crossover doesn't have to be with a big series, it could just be another genre, and there was something I really wanted to do... I was planning on Pokemon, but I kind of want to send Teddy and her squad dungeon crawling through my other series, Dueling dungeons.

I know not everyone has read that one, but it's one of my favorites, and I'd like to hear what you think. Poll time! If you have something you want to say feel free to comment too!

SS - Chapter 35 - The other side

Next week is the start of fanfiction crossover! I know we've been left on a bit of a cliffhanger, but we'll be back.

“Keep moving, past the maids and up the hill. Don’t stop, or you may block the people behind you!” I shouted.

“There are far more than I expected,” Camille muttered. “Either something happened and your mother needed to evacuate more people, or we’ve got leeches coming through.”

“We’ll worry about that later...

SS - Chapter 34 - Change of Schedule

I woke with a start, as the loud, melodical chime repeatedly rang in my head, indicating I had a message. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been awakened by a system alert, usually it was smart enough to mute everything except for alarms, and critical messages, so the fact that it was going off now meant I’d either set the settings wrong, or something was terribly, terribly wrong.

Groaning in pain and disappointment, I pushed myself to a sitting position and glanced outside. T...

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 61 - Terminal Velocity

I stared in disbelief at the oversized tick. It hadn’t survived due to the Twenty-Eights throwing themselves in the way, or some otherworldly resistance, but due to the culmination of its scheming and a tiny bit of dumb luck.

I’d thought it was a little suspicious that the Thirty-Seven had tried to escape across the surface instead of summoning a horde and trying to find a place to bunker down. It turned out this had all been part of its plan, it had to be out in the open for...
