The goggles on Jason’s helmet are pulled down and over his eyes, activating their three effects. And so suddenly Jason can tell that the weather will stay clear for the near future and the slight glare of the sun to the side of the fight clears up. Oh, and they go to work at preventing malicious eye contact. Now, normally psionic powers don’t actually require physical aspects to work.
Except, the three blue goblins aren’t using a normal psionic power. Rather, they are channeling a...

Jason and Lily remain on guard outside after the wave finishes. This leaves Rosha free to assist Courtney in the building. After all, next to Courtney she is the one with the most knowledge on how to provide first aid. Even though it wasn’t likely that Rosha would end up adventuring on her own, Peter made sure to provide quite comprehensive instructions on how to handle when things go wrong. Sure, Jason does have a bit of first aid training both in and out of game, it was mostly self taught...

Heyo, yesterday's chapters did happen, I just messed up when releasing them. Huge thanks to Guilherme Silva and Tomáš Blábol for pointing this out to me!
As of late, Patreon has been changing how you post stuff and it made it harder to see all the tiers and make sure you have the right ones selected (literally while posting this I almost messed up again). I'll just have to double check from now on. Hopefully things stay about the same for a while. Not that I expect that. For some re...

Doyle shakes his core and focuses on placing some giant mushroom stalks. Well, he has been calling them mushroom stalks and some are. However, some of them he made to be a web of fungal growth, stretching from one side to the other.
There was just one problem. As he was using fungus, Doyle included spores. They were honestly sort of his thing at this point, anyway. Except, there was now a layer of spores hanging out midway between the two sides. It was sort of inevitable with two opposi...

Doyle looks out over the empty floor. It is true there isn’t a way to know a delver’s Strength score. Nevermind the fact that knowing it wouldn’t do much, anyway. Though maybe if he did something like how a rubber band works? The only problem with that idea being that he certainly doesn’t have fine enough control of gravity.
Even just having multiple bands of increasing gravity is a bit beyond him right now. While having a few areas with different downs or strengths of gravity i...

Of course, even with proper weapons and armor, the first wave isn’t all that hard to beat, even if there are thirty of the goblins. They’re still normal goblins. It is the second wave where things get spicy.
Twenty high goblins, a rarity even among the three-eyed goblins. Unlike most goblinoid variants, they actually stay goblins, instead gaining in cunning over the normal gain of larger bodies and strange abilities. For such a large group to show up together, they had to come from ...

As the ritual plays out, a noxious haze emits from the undead abomination’s remains. That haze swirls and twists up into the air, constrained by the set boundaries. All the while a black velvet mold spreads out of the bones and piles up in front of Courtney, only the ritual’s barrier keeping her from being subsumed within the horrors of decay distilled.
Off to the side, Jason waits as a last line of defense. If the ritual breaks, whether from a mistake or the abomination containing ...

It took me a solid minute to dig my way out of the tomb. That was more than enough time for Harold to hover his butt out and figure out where I would emerge. Good thing I wasn’t a complete idiot and had a plan. A basic plan, sure, but at least I had an idea of what to do so I didn’t exit into a barrage of magic.
Oh, and on top of basic, it was incredibly stupid. See, all I did was stick my arm out and wriggle it around. Harold took the bait and blasted my arm to smithereens. This hu...

Doyle decided to make the jump transitions look more natural. Well, make it look better to those of an appropriate level for the floor. There is nothing he can do about someone coming through that is over leveled.
Though even with that intent, Doyle is a bit stuck on how to manage it. After all, level doesn’t actually have some sort of max strength attached to it. At level twenty, someone might have their starting Strength or they might have been buying per level Strength paths since ...

In the end, all Jason and Lily could do was sit back and watch. At least Courtney could provide minor magical support in the form of healing and stamina recovery spells. If she tried anything more, the undead meat monstrosity might have turned its focus on her.
And so after about two hours of cat and mouse, the mouse wins. Within the first half hour, Rosha ran out of prepared arrows and had to depend on skill-based ammunition, but she eventually managed it. Maybe with a better way to re...

The last wave brought only two monsters. Undead, of course, as that seemed to be the theme. Though the two were true and proper abominations. Well, most would see undead in general as abominations, but in this case it is being used to refer to the category of undead. Those that are created from a number of bodies instead of just a single source.
To the left was the more straightforward monster. Most would call it a bone golem, though those are a different thing. The fundamental differen...

Doyle sighs, ‘That sounds powerful in theory. Except it doesn’t actually give any sort of signifier for the magnitude.’
Ally shrugs, ‘If anything, I would point towards it being Daisy’s fault that you got such a vague bonus.’
Doyle tilts to the side, ‘Daisy’s fault? Why would it be Daisy’s fault?’
Ally, ‘Well, you did just gain a bonus that will make it so that her future luck gains are magnified even more. That might even be why she was forced into del...

Daisy does end up entering the dungeon. In fact, she ended up delving much more than expected as everyone else was focused on their skills. Even Jim would have problems gathering a full team and so she was voluntold to fill in when needed. It was good for her and certainly helped when out of the dungeon as well. After all, Luck builds on what is already there. It takes a lot more to ricochet an arrow off something to turn a miss into a hit than it does to make sure the wind blows just right t...

Jason, of course, spends a bit more time getting into specifics. Stuff like how to feel your own mind being physically warped by information and so on. Most of it is very niche, but you definitely want to know what to do before it happens. Not that he expects them to remember everything, but he does hope that some of it sticks so maybe one of them will remember when needed.
Then the three of them jumped back into NeoRealm and they each let out big sighs of relief that nothing messed wit...

Rosha, “Well, that’s horrifying and total nightmare fuel. Though you said magical mind control is mostly benign. That was clearly an example of it not being the case, but what are the other methods?”
Jason, “The other option besides magical methods is physical. Whether that means wearing your body like a skin suit or something replacing sections of your brain to control you.”
Courtney frowns, “That is certainly bad, but it also sounds like something healing magic could...

Since I'm removing the novel specific nature of tiers in the coming new year, I can have a little fun with the naming scheme. With that in mind, since I am a dragon, I'm going to name the tiers after the life stages of a dragon. The simplified version. There is like twelve stages in the classic D&D line up. Compared to the five simplified, I don't have enough tiers. Anyway, I figured I would ask how people felt about this. It doesn't change anything, but maybe someone has an interesting i...

- Minimum Wage - The Heroes failed. The Villians successfully activated the summoning ritual for their world-c...

A bit ago I posted about wanting to change how tiers work. Specifically, I want to remove the fact that there are story specific tiers. As I noted then, THIS WILL NOT CHANGE HOW YOUR CURRENT TIER WORKS. Come January 1st the current $5 tiers will be unpublished and a new $5 tier will take their place. If you are current subbed to one of the $5 tiers, you will continue to be subbed to them and keep getting everything you should. Besides that, the $1, $3, and $8 tiers are not changing at all. It...

Three days after his talk with Jim, Ace gathers all of the inner circle. Less than fifty people, though once gathered in one room it certainly feels like a lot. If he had been willing to talk to them piecemeal, Ace could have started his talks immediately, but he felt that a gathering like this was important.
If anything, seeing them all talking amicably was worth the wait. Even with the sharp decline because of the apocalypse, humanity shouldn’t be small in numbers on the planet. Oth...

From my maw, a primal snarl emerged. I knew I should be kicking the mantids to preserve my health. Instead, I lunged forward and bit the head off of the closest mantid while the bugs next to it sliced into me. The pain, sadly, did not bring me out of my frenzy.
Good news? I’m apparently a good monster and as I went and tore chunks out of various mantids, something inside of me had gone into overdrive. Each wound oozes twice as much gel as before, but this was a good thing. It was the ...

Once again I'm here to ask all of you for short story prompts! I'll take the more popular ones as decided by the number of hearts (or that I particularly like) in the comments and make a poll at the start of the month. The winner will be made into a short story of a thousand or so words.
Not many rules on what you can suggest at the moment. That will mostly be figured out as we go. Besides that, the short story will come out before the end of the next month.
Rules for prompts:

A special bronze plate was ready. Jerry had even gone as far as to get some scientists to do an in-depth analysis on what era and region appropriate bronze was actually made of. Which turned out to include a few weird ingredients. Though in particular, the source material he was working off of seemed to include a trace amount of iron that one scientist suspected came from blood. Which Jerry sourced from a nearby butcher.
He had printed blanks with a...

The attached Energy blast collapsing the more delicate inner portions of the neck. You know, like blood vessels. It only took a moment before the bear fell over unconscious.

Down in the dungeon, Doyle watches these big moves and worries. Not about the cultists or even those agents. Rather, he worried because of what it revealed of Ace, the Barrais, and the people who support them. See, the cultists hadn’t actually done anything against the rules yet.
Of course, that is mostly coming from the fact there aren’t that many laws to begin with. Still, such a massive action against people who had only been planning without any prep? People say stupid things al...

Noon rolled around on the second day of the challenge and the team was ready. Rosha was on lookout, Courtney hidden in what would hopefully be a forward position, and Jason with Lily in front of the building. Now, it was always possible that the Deep Wilds would plonk down the monsters on the opposite side of the building. However, it seems to be about the upfront battle and so for the fourth time positioned them directly in front of the building’s door.
This meant the group’s prepa...

Overnight, Jason spent his free time setting up a platform for Rosha to snipe from. This turned out harder than he expected. Making the actual planks for it was easy enough, but figuring out how to set them on the roof was less than straightforward. After all, he hadn’t exactly built the building with a second floor in mind.
It would have been easier to make some attic space than it was to put a platform on the roof. In fact, Jason gave up on purely using the roof supports for this. M...
