Whoops, I accidentally wrote a chapter.
Please leave your thoughts!
Inquisition honestly worked really well with each other. I hadn’t even said anything about their composition, but it was pretty clear that they recognized their weakness on that front. As the constructs stepped out from the walls, the entire party moved.
“Red,” the [Fire Mage] said. “This is gonna suck.”
‘Red’ must’ve been a code word for something—oo...

“Alice, Nora, Alex, Jonathan,” the [Fire Mage] said, pointing to the [Druid of Dreams], [Alchemist], [Zen Archer], and himself in turn. “Our party name Inquisition.”
That was certainly one of the names of all time. I refrained from commenting on the party name.
“Nice to meet you all,” I said. “I assume that you’re interested in having a guide take you?”
“If you would be so kind,” Alice said, her words breath...

“We can take a break now,” I said, patting the sweat-soaked Guild representative on the back.
He’d been worn down by the half-clear. Karl was a level 7—almost 8 now, thanks to the artifact—[Swarmkeeper], and while he’d been able to defeat most of my snakes, modified or not, by using miniature buglike monsters of his own, he hadn’t quite been able to stick it to the constructs.
M-...

Let me know your thoughts. Is this a satisfying end to the first arc?
I blinked awake, forcing myself to get off the ground. How long had it been? I’d stayed half-conscious through the usage of my dungeon half, but I’d just been so tired that I’d done little more than keep the debris away from the [Bard] and myself.
Speaking of which…
Rose was singing, I realized, a cheery, hopeful melody with words that… was that Japanese? Huh.
I go...

Five minutes to kill them. Make it four and a half to be safe.
My hatred tore through me, but I kept it in check. Pragmatism was good. Blind rage wasn’t.
I couldn’t let myself lose control.
Even as I considered the situation, my thoughts speeding up as I made full use of my senses, I could feel my inhibitions slipping away.
Mercy? Understanding?
These two had done nothing t...

After the initial offense, there were ten of them left, and we numbered thirteen. Going off of raw numbers, we were favored now.
That, unfortunately, didn’t account for the vast gap in power between most of us and the Kingsguard. Up until this point, I’d gotten the impression that the [Colorless Sorcerer] and the [Necromancer] hadn...

I gasped awake.
The tunnel where I’d died was gone. The wall between the safe room and the first room was nearly completely gone, the stone scoured until there were barely an inch of wall between us and them.
The separation between the two paths of the dungeon had been utterly removed, and I found myself thankful for the fact that I hadn’t decided to hide anything o...

Edited 10/22: Slightly changed some details of the ending.
This was it. No more training, no more last minute additions.
They’re early. Hadn’t the projection been for them to attack later today? The evacuation had been scheduled for just around now to account for the attack occurring at the end of the day, but evidently something had slipped Lisa’s radar....

The training sessions were starting to blend together now. After Anderson had left, I’d successfully [Assimilate]d the [Devouring Ooze], and I’d set aside another room to keep spawning them in.
Anderson came back with his full party, and this time, they didn’t even wait for me to introduce them before they started.
Second room. Almost complete. Ended to an ...

“I’m glad we were able to get that resolved without too many issues,” I said, dusting myself off. “Well.”
Troy pulled himself to his feet, wincing as the last few scrapes he had started to mend, courtesy of my [Healing Stream]. “Sorry. I should’ve reacted.”
I shook my head. “You had very little time to do so. Besides, in my experience, party members a...

Please give feedback. I'm tired. Pumping these out in one day is hard.
“Sorry, what?” the [Tactician] asked. “I believe I may have misheard you.”
“I need monsters,” I said. “The dungeon needs monsters.”
“Your dungeon is one that [Assimilate]s,” Iris declared, instantly refocusing. The speed at which she could change from surprise to all business was honestly a little scary. “Interesting. Those are rare.”
“This dungeon is a lit...

Hands on fire today. Let me know if you spot anything that needs fixing!
The Duelists of the Weave recovered before Minus One did. That made sense, in some way—M-1 had fewer members, so they had to expend more mana per person during the fight, and they’d already been tired before they’d entered the dungeon to do their first training run-through—but it still surprised me.
The four level 2s were fresh and ready on their return. Robes had been patched up, wou...

Another long one. We hit the big 50! Let me know your feedback in the comments.
The level 2 squad—the Duelists of the Weave, apparently—were looking a lot better now than they had before, but there were still so many obvious holes in their fighting strategy.
I’d scaled back on this combat. There were still nine separate earth constructs, still a bunch of snakes, and I still turned the air vents on randomly from time to time, but I didn’t deploy the [Displa...

I’d spent an entire night musing over how I could make this dungeon more effective for training adventurers. I’d planned, prepped, and modified monsters. One half of the dungeon was almost unrecognizable when compared to the five-room design I’d had before, though I kept the other path relatively unchanged in case someone just wanted to run a dungeon.
The space underneath still wasn’t developed enough to do anything beyond having isolated testing rooms, so I hadn’t bothered wi...

“Just to be clear,” I said, flattening the ground under the spot where Minus One had set the sofa down, “this is the same artifact you stole from the Kingsguard, right? Also, why the sofa?”
“It is,” Rose said, flopping down onto the sofa they’d brought in. “And to your second question, I did promise you I’d get you one. We were making sure everything was still in the vaults this morning, and, well, this was in there and I remembered. Ryan and Troy said they could manag...

“Do you have everything?” Rose asked, practically bouncing with excitement.
“Troy has his stick,” Ryan said, rolling his eyes and smiling. “I didn’t let the order know about this, so… no armor, unfortunately. I have my sword, though.”
“It’s an arcane focus,” Troy protested. “And are you sure you’re going to be alright without your plate? I know how good you are with t...

I had to swap up how I did things around here. That much was immediately obvious.
So far, I’d been fair. I’d explained traps to people, told them what monsters did, and generally just handheld them through the entire dungeon. Yes, I’d given them lessons, but it had all been done with some level of kid gloves.
The Kingsguard weren’t ever going to do that. The first ones who’d invaded me, their low leveled scouts? Yeah, those might play fair, but that was just because they...

Getting hit by an explosion was never fun, though it was a little more common than one might expect. During my brief time as an adventurer and my ongoing stint as a dungeon, I’d suffered through at least four or five major ones, and it was probably never going to get any easier.
Thankfully, stacking together a few resistances to pain, force, fire, and such—provided to me as part of the suite of spells offered by [Divine He...

The [Analyst] was a severe-looking man, probably in his late 50s but with a body structure that suggested he was a decade or two younger. Ah, the wonders of magic.
If we’d been on earth, he would’ve been the picture of a middle-aged lawyer—black suit, dark blue tie, trimmed brown stubble on the verge of graying, and a pair of thin-rimmed glasses that, upon inspection ...

“W—wait, wait, hold on,” I said, stumbling over my own words in my haste. “Kill him?”
“Of course,” Jackson said, preparing his shield once more. “What else?”

I couldn’t quite articulate the reasoning for it. The words were at the tip of my tongue, but there was just something that ...

I was already manipulating the earth around us as the Kingsguard dashed in. Without the massive numbers advantage that I’d maintained against the [Astral Monk], just delaying and surviving wasn’t a viable tactic. Furthermore, I doubted that he was under mind control—a cursory examination told me that none of the items on his body had the same magic signature as the ring that had influenced Sarah the [Astral Monk...

“Enemy!” I shouted.
The two security guards Iris had brought were already reacting. Jackson’s shield, already planted in the ground, started to glow with mana as the man finished activating his [Force Shield]. As I watched, a thin barrier of pure white magic encased it. Behind him, Ed the [Arcane Archer] already had his bow in his hands, a [Homing Shot] flowing through the weapon and into the nocked arrow.
Ed released, the arrow flying straight and true.
If it weren’...

“Hey,” I greeted them. “That was fast.”
“I work fast,” Iris said, a hint of a boast in her voice. “Will this be satisfactory?”

First things first. I didn’t want to accidentally use a strong new skill in a place where it could lay waste to me and my best-laid plans, so I opened up some space in a wall, giving me about a ten by ten by ten cube of room to work with.
I sealed it off, ensuring that I had at least six feet of solid stone between me and the room. Since this new spell was a dungeon spell, it meant that I could use it anywhere as long as it was inside my domain. As such, there was really no point in g...

“The hells?” the [Swashbuckler] asked. “We cleared the room.”
He was a good-looking guy, I had to admit, and that might’ve changed the direction of this conversation with other people, but I was irritated enough to not care. I had to stop myself from actively surrounding the party with stone walls to keep them from running ahead like the idiots they were.
“You cleared the room,” I said, nodding. “Right.”

I had at least one new spell slot. The [Assimilate] hadn’t actually taken the [Spawn Monster] spell slot, so I had that to use as I saw fit, but it wasn’t alone. There was still the new spell available notification at the bottom of the interface even after I’d gotten [Assimilate], but once again it wasn’t something I could instinctively feel out. EDITED 9/30: Clarified the punishment for Anderson.
With the death of the boss came the opening of the reward room. I had ended up deciding against making anything flashy to introduce it with, so all it really amounted to was a new tunnel entrance popping out of a wall in the far side of the room. It was going to take us a bit to g...
