Chapter. 10: Mana Manipulation
The disruption on the water continued for a few seconds, but that was the least confusing part to me. I stood up and swiped the small rocks that adhered to my body, a strange feeling of cold remained on my fingers that I used to draw the arrow. Rubbing them together brought a certain warmth, but it didn’t feel the same. The missing warmth was different, it was at the center of my body like a pool of primeval heat, one that I didn’t know existed. I co...

Chapter. 7: Bitter Realization: Unrequited Struggle
I shook my head, it was pointless to think about the past. All I could do was think about my mistakes and not repeat them. But, now it wasn’t time for me to think. It was the time to survive. I knew I couldn’t kill the Knell Bear, but I had to at least scare it away. I aimed for its head but at that moment, it pounded the tree trunk. The string left my fingers prematurely from the fear of losing my footing on the tree branch.

Chapter. 4: Stat Distribution
The light ball companion — Glim — floated by my side as I surveyed my surroundings. Even though I wanted to bombard it with questions, I had to actually make sure I was in a safe place. Strangely enough, the hulking corpse of the Everwood Moose had begun to rot, and the arrows were unsalvageable. Considering the arrows I managed to save, I had about thirty-nine arrows remaining. Well, thirty were from the so-called Archery Basic Kit. Speaking of...

Chapter. 1: Vestiges Of a Race
The Deep Dark has fallen.
The wood creaked as the string tensed, the arrow was pulled as far as it could go. My hands slowly stopped shaking as I took a deep breath and zoomed into my prey.
The war ended.
I let go of the arrow, the tensile strength from the string silently snapped; all the built-up tension sent i...

Originally I was going to continue writing into book 2 as per normal, but honestly I don't think I can do it. I am not really ready for it, with all of that in mind the patreon backlog of DCMAGR will be completely purged. At the same time I have been working on a new fiction all this time whose backlog shall be uploaded into patreon soon.
Whenever the book is done editing it shall be sent to all patreons, previous or current.
Here is a throwaway Synopsis of the new fic...

Shadows engulfed, cascaded and trembled; mist ebbed and flowed from the ground and air as if it was suspended in time; an eternal darkness encompassed the infinite space as far as he could see, in the space the only change; the only thing that broke the monotony of it were the shadows emanating from him, erratic and incohesive. Oh, how long had it been since he last felt a thing? His cold dead soul couldn’t remember, but the sight within his eyes destroyed his insides, unimaginable pain tha...

Monster hunting became part of my life. At first it was because I wanted Ash to be able to rely on me, but it also became about trying to help the world.
The monsters would attack people after all.
Monster after monster was slain, or rather slain by Ash and I, felled under different things. Sometimes there would be hounds, other times there would be more complex things such as composite beings, beings of flesh and spikes; flames, water, demons alike.

I walked through the forest, once I knew I was far enough from the Old man, I summoned my scythe. The shadows gathered from within everywhere amidst the dark, and in an instant the scythe hummed a greeting to me. I had to gather wood to make a fire? I nodded to myself, something dry was probably better.
My scythe was also accompanying me, at the same time I made an effort to tune out the Old man’s and Ash’s emotions, not wanting to know how they were doing — last thing...

A/N: Officially 15 chapters ahead -- I think -- odd 3rd person pov in the chapter. Didn't want to turn it into its own standalone chapter.
We arrived home, and as soon as the door closed I heard a deep bellow. It sent a shiver down my spine, Ash was angry.
“You…” she hissed. “You told the Old man about the Underworld?!”
I shrank back. “Yes…”
“Why would you do that? Why would you tell him about that?”

Ash helped me dig a grave for the farmer after getting some shovels and bringing his corpse out of the Bordering Lands. The sweltering heat was annoying, and Ash really made sure to let me know about it.
“Do you seriously need to bury him, what did he even do?”
“Nothing,” I answered.
“Then? Why?” Ash pressed with a frown.
I took a deep breath, still feeling deeply confused about the events that had transpired. “I sent him to Elysium, but his body is left ...

The Grim reaper stared at me, making me nervous. I had just taken a life, and now… this? I struggled to calm down. Had I done wrong in killing him— in sending him to Elysium? No, that was my duty as a Grim reaper and— I looked at the Grim reaper; I had done my job, and yet again he had shown up. I was in the right.
“Kaiti,” he called. “I am not here to… punish you.”...

We stayed in silence for a few minutes, no things said. Simply, mulling on the things that had happened. I felt happy and Ash was trying to calm herself down, it seemed she was slightly overwhelmed which I found funny. But I didn’t bother her, not wanting to tease her. We waited for a few more minutes before Ash finally spoke.
“Kaiti,” she called.
“Yes?”
Ash fidgeted before finally taking a deep breath. “Thanks.”
“No problem.” I sat straight. “Do yo...

Part of my day was spent wondering how to go about showing my scythe to the old man, and the other was spent watching TV. I found that simply just staying indoors was enjoyable, perhaps not as enjoyable as making other people happy. But it was a good pass-time for me. Sleeping was easy, waking up and figuring out how to do things? Not so much.
I paced around the living room of the house, the morning sunlight poured into the room. Would it be alright to simply teleport to the tree an...

The next day came, and I excitedly went about my morning. I took a shower because it felt great. Once more I decided to simply not rush it and take a taxi, something about not using my scythe and simply doing normal things made me feel at peace. Though I was certain it was going to miss seeing me. As odd as it sounded.
Eventually I arrived at the park, the morning sun smiled upon me. The par...

I groggily awoke, feeling completely relaxed. My hand wandered to my side where it encountered a warm object. Huh? I rubbed my eyes with confusion trying to clear my vision. It was a pitch-black rod, its length ran through the bed and it vibrated?
It took me a few seconds, but eventually I realized it was my scythe. I had fallen to sleep with my scythe as if it was some sort of thing to hug. It was normal for a Grim reaper to sleep with their scythe, right? I ...

After a few more minutes of talking, just like always; The Old man left with a smile, bidding me a farewell. Though he at least made sure to tell me that he was always available to talk, which made the goodbye much less sad. Why does he always have to leave? I did not know, why couldn’t he just… stay around?
In the end, I simply pouted while returning home. The temporary home. My mood had become...

If I did it before the Grim reaper could stop me, then there would be no problems. I’d be able to send the soul I wanted to Elysium and— deal with the repercussions later? Though… there should not be any repercussions… I looked at Ash who had started looking at the roof seemingly relaxed.
“And…” I began. “When do I do it?”
“I don’t know…” Ash replied letting out a long breath. “Do you genuinely believe you’re ready for Elyisum? I ...

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, Child of the Nekros family.”
His cold voice sent a shiver right through me and my heart skipped a beat, the tears and sadness from the loss of the hound had vanished, but… I looked at the hound’s soul, it was clearly right there beginning to form its shape. I had no idea what would happen when it finally happened but I had to do something. I was well aware of what stopped me, but I didn’t know the why. A Grim reaper…

My face felt stiff and eyes were dry, I stretched feeling my back pop in the eerie silence. The room had no door— the house was devoid of anyone and everyone. I looked at the curtains that were clearly closed, the shimmering light pooling underneath them. I blinked, feeling a slight headache. What had happened?
I brought my hand to my face and felt the flaky things around my eyes. Had I been crying? I frowned trying to recall things only to pause.

The first mission was uneventful, more so of a pain in the ass rather than anything in Ash’s opinion. Getting around the city was less than intuitive for either of them, it was simply easier to spend their time looking at their screens and laughing at whatever they found funny rather than doing anything else.
Eventually they began to buy other things, which quickly devolved into Elei, the dark elf making a shocking discovery, one that intrigued Ash.
“Check this out!...

The Underworld. A hub of chaos, an interconnected place that was nothing but a stitched malformed world, one where the strong ruled, and one where death was the common law of life. Order was far and few, and for the most part it never really existed. She wasn’t going to miss the messed up place she had to call home for the first eighteen years.

Skeletos Asthen, skeleton, weak. She was a heir of the Skeletos family. She knew she was different from her siblings, much different. Ever since she could remember she was weaker, less bright, and discriminated against by those around her. I tilted my head. “Has it really been that long?”
He shrugged. “A day or two? I don’t really count anymore.”
“Then why?”
“Why.” He raised his brow. “Why, what?”
“Why say it’s been a long time then?” I asked with a small frown.
The Old man scoffed. “It’s just a manner of speech, don’t be silly.” He shook his head in disapproval. ...

I woke up feeling much more refreshed, though I immediately recoiled feeling the grime in my body. Right, I hadn’t washed myself yesterday. I stretched, seeing the colors beneath the curtain, I assumed it was early morning. I didn’t really feel like doing anything. Nonetheless I had to clean myself up.
I sluggishly moved from my bed and headed towards the bathroom in the room. At least today I didn’t have anything. Upon opening the bathroom door I was gr...

The sunlight illuminated the floating dust particles of the abandoned warehouse. At its center a gaping abyss stood as wide as a carriage. The asphalt corroded away, the dirt underneath shimmered from a liquid coating, and the darkness of its depth was unknown.

Ash stopped looking at her phone. “Probably some sort of insect? Nothing else can really eat through concrete like that.” She shrugged and went back t...

The day was yet to be over. After eating in the communal space that seemed to be part of the neighborhood, and getting weird stares from kids, we eventually left the place. Instead of going to our new place of residence we went back to the hotel by using a taxi.
