Atlas & Philo illustration

I finished up that WIP that was in my July sketchbook! I had the urge to do a coloured/finished illustration and this definitely satisfied that hahaha. I had a lot of fun messing around with layer modes etc and just seeing where the drawing ended up taking me- originally I’d been thinking of doing it with more of a light clouds/flowers aesthetic but I ended up liking a darker background better!

Here’s my sketchbook for this month! It’s smaller than usual- like I mentioned I struggled a bit with art block this month, so didn’t do all that much sketching. I did include an extra page breaking down the process for an illustration I did of Atlas though, so hopefully that’s interesting to see! I also added a few notes on some pages just giving a bit of context for what’s on them- I’ll probably keep doing that from now on.

How I deal with art block

I wanted to do a bit of a different post- a blog entry I guess! I’d like to talk about my current method for handling art block, since its helped me a lot since I started doing it and I figured it could be helpful or interesting to share! 

For me, when I experience art block, it’s usually because I’ve lost direction. I personally find seeing so much art on social media every day (instagram, Twitter, etc) can make it easy to ‘muddle’ my own direction- it can get difficult ...

Also some news- I bought an iPad Pro 🥲 before I was using a 6th gen iPad- it served me very well for a long time, but it was starting to lag constantly and procreate was crashing all the time (you might remember I lost a page full of thumbnails because of this!!)
