Vainqueur 30: Demon Feast

Much to Vainqueur’s satisfaction, when Icefang looked upon his magnificent hoard, the frost dragon’s eyes widened as if he had suffered from a stroke.

“So huge and deep!” Jolie walked on the hoard, amazed by its depth, its warmth, its texture... its shininess. As a kingly gesture, Vainqueur let his family touch his treasure, so they could feel his wealth.

“It’s so warm and golden!” Genialissime added. “It’s… it’s the biggest hoard I have ever s...

“You are certain, Manling Victor?” Vainqueur asked, upon looking at the strawberry cake, whom his lackey had moved in front of the fairy crystals. “This seems like a waste of good food.”

“Positive,” his Doer of the Thing said. “Come on, try.”

“[Lesser Demonbane]!” Vainqueur cast the exorcism spell with his finger, a ray of light hitting the cake. While the food remained unharmed, a dark, crimson aura escaped it, letting out a terrible scream.

Magik Online 66: To Tempt the Devil

“Accel Recursion.”

Time was broken.

Darkness and silence swallowed the Midnight Market; the cacophony to which he had grown used to end, replaced with an eerie silence. The lights diminished, swallowed by a starless night; he could only see people and the flux infrastructures, the lights of their souls and lifeforce.

Alone in this quiet world, Shroud walked down the street, watching aliens, fairies and supernatural creatures queuing near a teleporter. He watched th...

Vainqueur 28: Interlude: The Chocolatine Factory

It was offering day, and so Chocolatine decided to bake three cakes: one for her god, one for her crush, and one for her brother.

Humming to herself as she dressed, Chocolatine explored her and her brother’s farm looking for the pantry. She kept a lot of demon flesh salted and fresh, and an imp in an iron birdcage. The demon looked at her with his big eyes. “Kill me,” the fiend pleaded. “Send me back to Hell, you crazy wolf.”

“Maybe later,” Chocolatine replied ...

Vainqueur 27: Heaven's Door

“The pain…” Vainqueur’s chief of staff complained as Brandon Maure gored him through the chest with his blade, before smirking. “Thanks.”

The Demon King raised his head. “Indeed, there is no greater pleasure than dying by the blade of Brandon—”

“No, thanks for getting close…” The minion grabbed Maure with his free hand. “Black Curse!”

A black aura surrounded Brandon Maure, instantly draining him of his vibrancy and strength.

Vainqueur 26: First Blood

As it turned out, Charlene had been right. Victor did end up in Hell after all.

It was a horrible place, but not for the reasons Victor had expected.

Hell was a fiery, brimstone cave, like the religions of Earth foretold; but they had moved away from burning souls and into new, more inventive forms of punishment. On one side, Victor noticed row after row of captive humans bound to chairs in front of a large mirror, forced to watch some kind of horribly acted, medieval reality TV s...

Vainqueur 25: The Demon King

Vainqueur had to give it to the elves. Unlike the manlings, they kept their lairs clean.

Their flying city was a treat for the eyes, with shiny white stone and marble statues which Vainqueur thought would look great on his hoard. He promised himself to return for groceries after recovering his princesses.

Gargoyles with forks patrolled the city's ramparts, unable to see Vainqueur nor the cattle-riding knight. She too had turned transparent, although the dragon could sm...

Vainqueur 24: Dragon Profiling

Sand. Sand. Sand.

Walking cactus!

Oh, it was dead.

Sand. Sand. Sand…

Vainqueur forced himself not to fall asleep out of boredom in the middle of the flight. He was sick of this endless desert, carrying his chief of staff in one hand, and a big, goatskin bag for princesses in the other. “Why am I flying invisible again?” the dragon asked his minion, who had insisted Vainqueur use his ‘Blinkblink’ ring. “And why didn't we bring the other minions?”

Vainqueur 23: The Regent

“Hi, Charlene.” Victor waved at the poor office manager, as he rode through the town square while on top of his new mount, the Black Beast of Murmurin. “What’s up?”

The guild manager glared back at him. Her ‘office’ was composed of a board, a desk, and a chair in the middle of the town’s square, gnolls and kobolds often checking the few requests available.

Murmurin had grown thrice-fold since the ‘War of the Hoard’, with minions building more houses or te...

Vainqueur 22: The Meat is Life

“You call that a castle?” Vainqueur complained as he bathed in the lava around his new lair, “I demand at least seven towers! Work harder!”

“Yes, Emperor Vainqueur!” the kobolds shouted back, while Vainqueur briefly closed his eyes in satisfaction at the name. The minions had built a large bridge to carry raw material from the mountain to the castle, rebuilding the towers the dragon had destroyed during the War of the Hoard.

The hyena-like humanoid called gnolls ...

Magik 64: Epilogue, The Dragon Exile

On the distant frontier of the Concordian Empire, there was a gas giant called Algol. An ethereal, silent world the size of Jupiter, so far away from its sun that it looked like a faint moon in a black sky.

A dozen satellite planets, each the size of Earth, orbited around the blue and white sphere. One of them was Nibiru, a world of ice and iron. A prison at the very end of an immense galaxy, where temperatures reached absolute zero.

Had it not been for Mur’s Heatriser providing...

  • 1291 After Mithras, Mithras’ heavenly realm.

Death sucked. Not as much as she thought, though.

Kia had never been religious, and so, she expected a dark void and then nothing. Apparently though, religions were onto something.

The afterlife existed, and it looked like a greek temple made of marble, golden clouds and shining light. Whichever god ruled this place had given her a comfortable chair on which to sit, in front of a brigh...

Vainqueur 20: Emperor Vainqueur

The vaults of the castle overflowed with treasure.

Deep in the depths of the dungeon, Manling Victor had found strong, metal doors so thick and huge, five dragons could have gone through them at once. After some fiery landscaping, Vainqueur and his minions had forced their way inside, only to be welcomed with the most beautiful sight in the world: an immense underground metal vault, overflowing with hills of gold and silver coins.

Vainqueur immediately jumped into his ...

Magik Online 63: Nemesis

Pressed for time, Shroud instantly moved to action.

Through his Glass Field, he spread the Magic Mirror Hack to the cathedral’s windows, turning them into portals to other worlds. Sea monsters from other planes, fish the size of elephants, and tentacled abominations, crossed the frontier and populated the abyss. The creature spread around, as Blackcinders descended towards them.

He hoped it would delay the great dragon, but it would only afford him mere seconds.

Kobolds are the archetypal minions, critters who live to die in the name of big bad monsters. They are cute, they are adorable, they are expandable. Vainqueur 18: Uninvited Guests

Due to his role in their new dragon overlord’s administration, the locals had wisely ‘gifted’ Victor a large mansion overseeing the rest of Murmurin. Finally, the human’s life as a homeless adventurer had reached its end, at least until they claimed Furibon’s dungeon tomorrow.

And what a place it was! With three floors, a basement, and a roof, it was huge enough to welcome a lord’s entire retinue. Unlike the medieval architecture of Gardemagne, the place had been built...

Vainqueur 17: Job Interviews

“Wait, wait, don’t kill me, don’t kil—”

Vainqueur poked his hundredth demon in a row, a monstrous rat the size of a manling, crushing it between his claw and the ground below. Like an insect, the creature died without making a sound.

Nothing. No level, and no treasure.

With a growl of disappointment, Vainqueur tossed the corpse on the pile of demon meat which had yet to be turned into undead. “I am out of sheep, Your Majesty,” Chocolatine informed h...

Vainqueur 16: Vainqueur's private war

Sitting amidst an orchard and a pen whom he had emptied of its sheep, Vainqueur glared at Murmurin’s volcano, a dark, fuming place even under the bright sunlight.

What kind of atrocity the lich was planning deep in his dungeon? How long before he spread knowledge of this dark, horrifying spell to the outside world? Vainqueur seethed at the thought, simmering with anger.

Although he heard Manling Victor and the new werewolves minions approach, Vainqueur didn’t even bother...

Vainqueur 15: Cult Management

This world sucked!

The locals had bound Victor to an olive tree with heavy chains under the faint moonlight. Around twenty werewolves had gathered to observe the sacrifice, while a squid-like humanoid held the ceremony, chittering incantations while wielding a scepter. Victor guessed the Moon Man worshippers were a relative minority in the community.

Unfortunately, the majority had given Victor the silent treatment.

“Brother, is that smart?” Chocolatine asked her brother...

Shroud opened his eyes, for the first time in a long, long while.

He could feel the cold, metallic ground beneath him, the pulsating, drumming sound of automated machines repairing metal walls. He could smell the faint scent of rust and blood, and sense the soreness in his body; the Player was himself again, and it felt good.

He rose back to his feet and found it a strange sensation. After existing as mere information, physical movement alone had become pleasurable....

Vainqueur 13: The Event

The Castle of Murmurin was better than anything Vainqueur could have imagined.

An immense, foreboding structure of black stone, the dungeon stood on a rock in the middle of a crater full of hot lava, the black smoke surrounding the place giving it a spooky look. The remains of a half-destroyed stone bridge linked the volcano’s edge to the castle’s entrance, a stone doorway more than large enough to fit Vainqueur through - unlike that stupid temple.

How good to bathe in a bigger hoard!

Vainqueur had done far more than what he had set out to do. He hadn’t doubled his treasure’s size, but more than quadrupled it. While he once struggled to fully shower himself with coins, the dragon could now roll happily in gold and jewels.

All of this in less than a moon. At this rate, his cave wouldn’t be enough to contain his full hoard.

“Guys, go away!” Minion Victor called outside, Vainqueur paying it no mind. ...
