It's time, yet again, for another brand-new episode of Constellation, Last Stand's conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by Punching Up co-hosts Gene Park and Micah Watson. Gene wants to discuss his trials and tribulations pertaining to the modern dating scene, one either facilitated by or injured by the internet, depending on your outlook. Micah's topic this week is a simple one: What's your favorite smell? And why are smells so deeply tied to memory, anyway? Da...

Few gaming franchises have had the staying power of Square's (and later Square Enix's) Final Fantasy. Launched in the waning weeks of 1987 in Japan, it took some two and a half years for the original title to migrate to western NES consoles, and while it sold fairly well, it still represented only a small spark that would set off a slow burn. Ultimately, that burn would turn into a raging fire -- Final Fantasies IV, VI, and VII are widely considered some of the strongest games ever made, and ...

Welcome to another episode of Sacred Symbols x Defining Duke! Today, we dedicate some two-and-a-half hours to a detailed chronicling of our respective backlogs. Each of the five of us -- Colin, Dustin, Chris, Matty, and Cog -- selected five games that we really, truly, and even urgently feel we need to get to, and our choices span generations, consoles, publishers, and genres. Colin thinks he's a poser because he's never played System Shock 2. Dustin's love of Japan makes Yakuza an obvio...

If there was any moment to put their foot on Xbox's throat, this showcase felt like a most opportune time. PlayStation only comes out of hiding every so often meaning it stand to reason that you'd think they'd have plenty to show off. You see, Xbox and PlayStation aren't too different. The mid-generation outlook for both consoles is eerily similar with very little knowledge on what is cooking for first party. Fortunately for Xbox, PlayStation left their audience in the dark on major teams suc...

We've waited so long for a fresh PlayStation Showcase that it came as a bit of a shock to be sitting there watching a new one. Yet we did just that, and frankly, we were left feeling a little bit underwhelmed. It's not to say that potentially-amazing games weren't shown-off, because they were. Out of the 34 titles seen, many of them looked great. But a lack of a truly meaningful first and second party presence coupled with gameplay scarce makes it's hard to feel too excited about what Haven o...

A few weeks ago, Matty approached me (Colin) with a thought: What if we sat down and dished about our respective journeys into game development. I loved the idea, and so here we are! Now, it's important to note that our adventures are nascent; Matty's still working on his first game, while the first title I contributed to only launched in 2020. Still, we've managed to glean some insight and knowledge along the way, and are eager to not only share what we have to say with you, but with ea...

Hey All! It's time to submit your questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas for Episode 125 of Defining Duke.

Welcome back to Constellation! This time around, the Brothers Moriarty welcome executive producer Dustin Furman and Punching Up co-host Gene Park. Gene waxes poetic about his concert-going experiences, and inquires about which live acts are best (and worst). Dustin keeps the music theme going with a deep-dive into our listening habits over the years, with a particular eye paid to the format we were using, whether tape, CD, MP3, or something else entirely. Dagan wants to know where our he...

We have long known about the Xbox x Nvidia deal, but a major first step has been taken. With the partnership in full motion now, the Dukes take some time to dive deep and eye down who Xbox's next target may be to help get the acquisition across the finish line!

What's a gaming event without predictions? It's the lifeblood of media, and thus Sacred+ always gets involved. The disappointing thing, however, is that we typically don't have very much to talk about in this regard. After all, PlayStation rarely speaks. But that's about to change for 65 minutes or so, when in a couple of days Sony finally breaks its long silence. The Sacred boys therefore gathered together to make 30 predictions -- 10 each -- outlining games, publishers, developers, hardware...

Unbelievably, the moment has finally come: A PlayStation showcase draws near. By the time the hour-plus event concludes, it'll have been more than 600 days since the last showcase in '21. In other words, Sony simply has to bring the heat, and we suspect they will. This week, let's take the time to dissect PlayStation's potential first, second, and third party plans for its mid-gen coming-out, and get into some other news in the ecosystem, too, including the reveal of a Mortal Kombat reboot an...

We're under a month away from Xbox's defining (!) showcase and PlayStation is officially set to strike first. In our last episode, we mulled over the pressure that Xbox faces as the morale is low for both fans and executives alike if Phil Spencer's recent interview was anything to go by. One aspect we tackled following the increasing rumors was a reality where Xbox would be on the receiving end of a most unfortunate double edged sword. That blade being the incompetency shown in Redfall and th...

Please welcome a person who needs no introduction: Ken Levine. Ken was kind enough to join me (Colin) on Sacred Symbols+ for an extensive and wide-ranging conversation, one that touches on his history, his games, his studios, his creative approach, and his mantra as a writer and director. It's been a decade since Mr. Levine has launched a new title; it's hard to believe BioShock is nearly 16 years old, while BioShock Infinite is 10! But in his reclusion boils something new, a game called Juda...
