Drive to Survive Season 5 Review - Patron Exclusive Podcast

Hey Patrons!

This month (just about) on the patron podcast feed we tackle Drive to Survive Sesason 5. Instead of spreading these out over multiple episodes as we have done in the past, we decided to do it all in one go this time.

And given the now 5-year legacy of the show we thought it a good idea to also talk a bit more broadly about the style they chose, the directions they didn't take, and where the series goes from here.

Enjoy the show!

Review: Fassbender's Road to Le Mans (Season 4)

Hello Patrons!

We're back with another check in with Michael Fassbender as he attempts to learn to drive a complicated car around difficult race tracks.

In this season we follow him to the hollowed ground of Le Mans and attempt to race toe-to-toe with some of the best drivers in the world.

If you haven't watched the series then (spoilers) we think it's great and you should.

Episode One Starts Here:

Film Review: The Fast & The Furious

Hello Patrons and before you say anything this one is all your fault!

Our first patron podcast of the new year is the winner of last week's poll; The Fast & The Furious. The now classic street car racing film that (eventually) launched a multi-billion dollar franchise.

In this episode the humble origins of this series are laid bare as Drew, Rob & Danny wax lyrical about NOS, neon lights, belly tops and bad cops.

Enjoy the show!

POLL: Pick our next Podcast Movie!

Happy New Year Patrons!

We hope you all enjoyed the holiday season, albeit how anyone enjoys months of no racing is beyond me! I for one was excited to meet up with a bunch of the patrons at the 24 Hours of Lemons at my local track; Sonoma Raceway.

Look at this handsome bunch!

It was especially nice as these were the last people I saw for 2 weeks as I was finally struck down ...

Film Review - Dust to Glory

Hello, Patrons!

Grab your Oakleys and gas up the Volkswagen, it's time for our review of Dust to Glory, Dana Brown's 2005 portrait of the punishing Baja 1000 rally and the oddballs that love it.

We watched the movie on Amazon, although if you can find a DVD, that might be a better option since the Amazon version looks a little weird. Also note that there...

Film Review - Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)

Hello Patrons,

This month we are reunited with Drew to talk about the most insane car movie that none of us had heard of until the end of last month's patron podcast.

I am of course talking about the original Gone in Sixty Seconds; a love letter to Hollywood films created by a guy who simply had too many cars in his junkyard.

It is available for rent but you can also watch the movie here:

Film Review - Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)

Hello Patrons,

This month Danny & Rob get together to talk about the Jerry Bruckheimer car heist flick Gone in 60 Seconds. Which is especially exciting for me as I have never seen this turn of the millennium classic.

Will Nick Cage drive angry? How many cars can a group of professional heist-folk steal in one evening. Will Angelina Jolie have to get a third job?

Enjoy the show and thanks so much for your support!

Film Review - Le Mans (1971)

Hello Patrons,

This month we return to the early 70s to watch the iconic, and rather bewildering, Steve McQueen racing vehicle (get it?) "Le Mans".

We pack a Greek gyro's worth of intelligible film critique into this one with plenty of conversation about b-roll, angelic spouses, running away from explosions, young boys taking photographs, b-roll, speed, death, flat tires, buffets and b-roll.

This movie is a lot.

Film Review - American Graffiti

Hello Patrons,

This month we take a trip back to the heyday of hot rods and even hotter boys as we review the George Lucas classic American Graffiti.

Over 70 minutes Danny, Drew & Rob discuss early 60s teen culture in northern California, the impact of cars on mating rituals and try desperately to pick out Richard Dreyfuss.

Film Review - Love the Beast

Hello Patrons,

This month we travel to Australia to hang out with Hollywood Superstar Eric Bana and his mates, as we dive into the world of amateur rally racing in 2009's documentary Love The Beast.

This is perhaps a film you should consider watching before the episode but if you've no inclination we try and do a decent job of talking you through it as we share what we thought of this unique and interesting film.

Film Review - Need for Weed

Hello Patrons!

This month's patron exclusive podcast revolves around a documentary many of you had suggested we watch. The fascinating story of IMSA GT and IndyCar racer Randy Lanier who funded a motorsport team off of the back of an illegal marijuana importing enterprise.

This was one of the most enjoyable docs we've watched in a while so we really recommend you check it out if you can. We don't assume you have in the podcast though so don't feel it's required reading. We just wa...

Hey Patrons,

It's that time of year again, time to review the latest series of the Netflix show which has brought so many of you to our podcast shores. Though due to some curiously thin story-lines, our Drive to Survive reviews are only getting split into two parts instead of three this year.

In this opening episode we tackle the first five episode of DTS:S4 which covers a lot of McClaren, Red Bull & Mercedes, while also taking a breather to check in on Guenther Steiner's Aldi...

Film Review - Schumacher (2021)

Hello Patrons!

With the recent release of this docu-biopic on Netflix we thought it would be a good idea to jump right in and cover it on the September Patron Exclusive podcast. We tried to keep out conversation less of a play-by-play and more of an analysis of how his story was told. So in this episode myself, Rob & Drew examine the many facets of the man presented in this documentary; the racer, the friend, the boy, the husband and father.
