BotW Painting Thing

Yay it's a new month! Hopefully I'll do some really cool work that you guys like so I can be surrounded by feelings of acceptance. I took on a big job this month, so it might be a big time eater, but I'll see if I can make it work. I had intended to upload this almost 40 minutes ago, but I've been having some connection issues the last few days. Anyway I guess it's done enough, kinda tired of working on it.

There are some things I really don't like and would like to change, but as far as getti...

Master Mode Illustration WIP

I played some of Master Mode - the plateau was so incredibly hard, but I'm passed it. I defeated one of the hardest minibosses in the game SUPER early in the game, so I'm pretty proud. But it'll probably get evne harder, I'm sure.

Anyway here's a preview to a thing I've been working on. Still needs some basic adjustments in what you see here, but that's okay because art takes time.

I started this illustration to be all "Master Mode-ish" but I'm not really sure I can call it anything more...

Concept: Master Mode Illustration (rough colours)

Just figured I'd show a slightly more developed sketch from earlier, so you've a better idea of what I've got planned. And since I plan to post it online tomorrow (hopefully), showing this piece in bits sure makes up for that.

I still need to set the colours right, get the correct contrast, get in the textural components, and then do the paint over with the brush I showed work for earlier this week. I really hope I don't disappoint myself!

Concept: Master Mode Illustration

Here's an idea I was sitting on for a few weeks now, but didn't start until not too long ago. I was planning to have it posted online tomorrow to announce the new Master Mode DLC for BotW - with the intention of making it painterly, like BotW's official/promotional art. Though it turns out that I might be getting access to Master Mode TONIGHT rather than tomorrow, which means that's potentially less time to work on this - and also like... I'M LATE. Kinda.

Anyway, looks cool. Kinda worried abou...

Comp Sketches

I had a plan to work on a painterly illustration this week, with the intention of posting it Friday (that's almost tomorrow). But earlier, it hit me -- what the heck do I even want the piece to look like. I had a general idea, but I hadn't actually put together a composition sketch. Though I had intended to do sketch one over the weekend.

These look neat, but I don't think they're quite what I want. I need to think about the BIG picture for the composition...

Anyway, I hope you're ...

Brush Fiddling III

Even more fiddling with the brush than before. The brush is close enough to my needs that I'm accepting of it, but it's texture is further enhanced by a Sharpen filter done in post-processing, which is a factor that has both pros & cons.

The sketch on the left is referenced from official art, which is a second attempt at the one I shared yesterday. I learned a few important things from this study.

- Form is incredible important. The form should be simple, but a strong understanding o...

More Brush Fiddling

Yesterday, I posted a small doodle I made while testing out a brush I was trying to make. This is it after it's been developed a bit more, but you probably can't see the development. It's still not where I want it to be - it's still too general and blocky, lacking the fine bristle texture I want from it.

Not to mention I have to press pretty hard sometimes - that's not something I want to be doing, so that needs some adjustment.

I was referencing some of the official art for BotW, so in ...

Brush Fiddling Sketch

Here's a small sketchy looking thing I was working on while trying to create and perfect a brush. Not quite what I'm looking for just yet. This brush is pretty vital for an artwork I'd like to make this week, so hope I can get around to perfecting this brush soon.

I guess my only purpose was to play with the brush, figure out what I want to change (a lot btw).

I hope you're all doing well.

Great! I'll grab my stuff!

And done. This comic took some time away from other things because it was so work-intensive, but it happens. I should probably take it easy for the next day. I hope this comic came out well enough. It'd be neat to devote more time to single illustrations like comics (And stuff with actual backgrounds).

Now I just have to find a way to upload it on twitter/tumblr without it turning it into a blurry poop...

BotW's Master Mode will be available at the end of the week; I hope I enjoy it. Ene...

Preview: Master Mode Comic

Not done yet, but that's alright, I'm almost done. I got distracted by tonight's Doctor Who a bit (I really enjoyed it btw) so I definitely lost a bit of time on it, having opportunities to work only during the commercials.

Only half of the comic is shown again, but the shading of the entire page is done. Or pretty much done - I can see myself fiddling with a little bit here and there. Next, I need to tweak the colours a bit, add some of the special effects like highlight, texture, etc. <...

Preview: Master Mode Comic

Sharing a Work-in-Progress with you lot. I've actually spent the majority of my waking hours yesterday working on this comic, being very meticulous about my line work so that it's crisp and clean. If only my line width were more consistent too! But solid art takes time.

This is only half of the comic. I hope to have the entire strip finished to share publicly on Sunday evening, so it's within the week of the end of the month. Ideally, I'd have had the finished product finished today, but alas....

Abandoned Illustration - Alundra

I slept through more of the day than I intended to do, so I thought I'd look through my archive of artwork and share something never before shared before - not even in the sketchie books. This is an old abandoned illustration I never finished.

I'm a big fan of Alundra -it's a Zelda-like video game on Playstation, so here's it's main character, but as a girl, because of course.

It's interesting to look back at my older works of art because of how different my work process was. I didn't ha...

Sketch: Master Mode Comic

Just a quick sketch for a comic idea I'd like to have done by the weekend, since Breath of the Wild's Master Mode is just a week away. I expect some dialogue and camera composition changes, but that's the creative process for you!

Having finished her last adventure, Link's been lazing about and outgrowing her well worn trousers. Guess she'll have to work off those gains by the end of the month so she's ready for Master Mode.

Master Mode is a major component to the first DLC for Bre...

Water II

So yesterday, I quickly sketched this - a wet, Dark Link. It's a neat idea I've given thought to before. I'd like to bring something new, perhaps with more depth, to the idea of a Dark Link. I briefly entertained the notion during a commission, with Link's counterpart being a reflection in a dirty pool of water - which I think offers a lot of neat themes. Ocarina of Time featured Dark Link as the mini boss in the...

Orc Sketch

Today's plan was to sketch some Allis the Boobarian. One of the earliest ideas written for the character involved some orcs, so that was worth practicing. Next time I draw this, I should actually study some anatomy references.

I wanted to capture something with a strong and masculine physique, with boxy and harsh shapes, while also maintaining some femininity for this Orc. I'm not really sure how ugly I generally want Orcs to be, like, they're by no means the most attractive race in their resp...

Peridot's Fun in the Water

Here's something that turned out pretty neat. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it came out looking better than I expected it to considering I wasn't getting what I wanted. I'm not sure the stylish cartoon face works well with the body, which has hints of realism in it. That's a sort of anachronism that's been present in my art before...

I'm a big fan of The Great and Lovable Peridot, probably because she's super cool like I am. My other favourite Gem from Steven Universe is probably Pearl....

Waking Up (Slight NSFW)

Or go to sleep. The title is either of those two. There's nipples showing, so I guess it's NSFWish. But it's not really explicit, so I'm classifying it as tasteful nudity, which is a thing I do sometimes.

I decided to go back and revisit this sketch, recolour a bit and shade it as well. An earlier version of this could be seen in Sketchiebook Brellom #1, so if you never got that, this is completely new! All in all, it's simpler in colour, lighter too. I decided to step back from my usual ...

what is with the colour purple and chains anyway

Just a pretty rough sketch, nothing particularly fancy. I haven't drawn a good Amaranth in quite some time.

I've been bored with art lately. I've gotten into some bad habits as far as productivity goes, and now I seldom work on things that exercise my creative abilities. I want to get out of the habit of drawing boring stuff and then uploading "yet another simple pinup of a character standing."

Whether that means spending time actually practicing on weak points of mine, exper...

NSFW: Not quite Linked yet...

Hope you're all doin' alright today. I've been organizing my computer folders today, furthering my setup on the new computer (because I never actually finished). Tedious work, but that's okay. I love the new, clean Patreon design, but I do not much care for their redesigned 'P' logo - I think it's pushing the abstract minimalism just a bit too much for it to be recognizable to the unfamiliar people.

So here's a pretty sloppy sketch, really rough and all that stuff. The smaller FemLink there is...

Samus Aran Sketch

E3 is finally over. Everyone did pretty good. Cool about the announcement for Metroid. I drew some Samus.

I've been pretty tired & unenthusiastic lately. I have to try to start having fun with art again and actively learning, because I'm growing more and more dissatisfied with the quality of my work, and casually improving through general artwork isn't good enough for me. I want to start being iterative, in addition to intentionally improving and experimenting with new stuff.

Sketch: Glowing Walls or something I guess

Howdy doo.

E3 has been eating into my time lately, such a distraction! It's all good, because I gotta get back to work soon. So here's a sketch I probably won't take into a finished illustration, though I originally meant to.

The idea was for the walls to have glowing crystals, but with the lantern there, the focal point between the two light sources becomes a bit unclear. The composition is generally pretty dull though, so that's okay. Maybe it'll lead to a different illustration ...

Prelude to Badassery

I really wasn't feeling like drawing.  Kinda dispassionate.

I was listening to some of the great music of Breath of the Wild,  and remembering how I used to draw some really badass FemLink stuff. I'm totally cool with the sexy things, and I'll continue doing so - but I do miss drawing stuff with more serious tones. So I should go around to doing that some time.

I wish I was faster at drawing, so I could regularly share stuff online in addition to the patron exclusive stuff.&nbs...

Fae Garb Sketch 01

Here's a pretty basic sketch but that's okay. It's been a few days since I've drawn, so I'm certainly rusty.

I recently read through Satellite 9's Sketchbook, in which she mentions liking the OLD pink hair I used to draw for my Link, so I decided to revisit it. It's all poofy and spikey! Originally, she was going to have a hand on her hip, with one of her arms flexed - but eh, it just didn't happen. But the ...

NSFW: Colette in bed or something

I don't believe I ever shared this with the general populace, as it's a one of my first sketches of Colette. I never thought it was particularly great as a sketch, but I liked it.  The twisting of the blanket was pretty neat, and I really liked the upper torso.

It's kind of a cheap technique to hide feet, which was probably just a coincidence, but I can't say I'm very good at them, so ignoring them is certainly not something one should make a habit. The shine in the left arm is probably a...

Sketch: washing dogs isn't fun

Here's a sketch drawn within the last few months, previously not shared (though it's featured in Sketchie Book Brellom 3, which is out now). The brellomascot washing a redline witch person character type dealio, I dont even fully know what she is, but she's cute.

Drawn in a stream, I feel like a joke was made about having to wash dogs and how much I disliked washing a dog, who wasn't even mine, might I add.

NSFW: doggo food n' shi

Here's a somewhat recent/somewhat old sketch. It was done within the last few months, that's for sure. The whole pet brello-mascot thing seems to have become popular among my sketches. Though the bowl is usually filled with a steak sandwich... Guess it was a frugal day.

Here's another scheduled post in the event that I'm too asleepy to draw something new, and since I'm pretty busy with a guest comic page too. I'd like to revisit this idea for a more refined illustration some day.

Wizard Character Sketch 02

So I revisited this character sketch, and then emphasized part of her build... Because reasons.

Just a simple wizard-type character. Still not entirely sure if I'm down with the design just yet. Originally, I was envisioning something that was a bit more natural and simple-looking, rather than fancy and refined. The blue/red/yellow colour scheme definitely carries a tone of regal-ness, so it's hard to avoid that fancy appearance. But they just look so good together!

The joke is it's a lava lamp. It's not the first time that joke has been made though.

This is an older sketch that I never shared publicly - it was when I first started sketching with the psudobrushes  (though this was probably drawn specifically by one of the prototype psudopencils.

Not much to say about it, it's a genie in an impractical outfit. I will more than likely be asleep again, so I'm scheduling this ahead o...

I'm back in action! Mostly!

This here was pretty much the first drawing I've done on the new computer - it's pretty good, save for one or two small, unimportant issues. Though I have to get used to the new aspect ratio and working on a much larger screen. That could prove troublesome - and because my tablet and keyboard can both fit on my desk simultaneously now, my whole posture has to be completely different... It'll take some time, but it'll happen.

Anyway, this was good fun. I love d...

Old Assorted Sketches

Guess who woke up at 8pm again.

These are some rather old character sketches, maybe 2 years or so, that haven't been shared. Maybe one of them appeared in a sketchie book though?

During these days, I was still using Photoshop for drawing, and it was before I was as good as I am now with getting cleaner sketches. There's a Link in the corner, as well as some lady for a suspense/horror idea I once had in the bottom right corner. The central figures are a single character who I had intende...
