For the latter of the two he finds himself with a brand new ally when he finds an amulet that gives him access to Kona, a wish granting demon that doesn't seem as bad as Rook makes them out to be.

A friend of his was pinging as a hypnaga... which prompted him to go and visit Vene in order to check out what was going on.

When their interaction causes a catastrophe those at Big Package Deerlivery decide that he is the one that is going to pay.
