Not Patreon work, but as the graphic book is now out I figure it cant hurt to show you guys the work I did. Keep it under your hat for now tho just in case! ;) Here is my thoughts for Caladan, ocean world and home of House Atriedes.
It's heavily influenced by my childhood spent in the West Coast of Scotland, a place with huge glacial valleys and coastline and very moody weather! Not ideal if you want a sun tan but very dramatic and grand looking.

I used a particle map to distribute boxes of various sizes onto a plane object; the boxes spawned at vertices of the plane so it was possible to give their layout some strucutre. Rendering that provided a texture of roof shapes which formed the basis of the city of arakeen. the mountains are a desert texture applied to a plane object which has been deformed upward by a NASA surface topography heightmap.. i used lots of photo textures for example a city at night on a lighten layer to add some ...
