FMS Episode One 44

As she descended along the ladder, she felt soft particles touch her outstretched hand. While she could not tell due to lack of light, it seemed like significant sand mass from the seabed had settled inside the ship’s bottom bay. Looking up, Chihaya could make out the dim light from the entrance hatch.

"Ugh"

Air bubbles broke through the seal of her closed lips. Chihaya’s heart missed a beat and she instinctively gripped her throat with her free hand.

(I... am not breath...

Crack.

The hinge came off with a crisp sound, with the cover gliding up like it had lost all its mass. Chihaya quickly knelt and slid both her hands under the plate. She then gripped the edge and heaved, frowning, like an underwater heavyweight lifter. The squeaky hatch was now completely ajar, with the dark lower deck now visible through the opening.

(Amazing. Aya-chan, we did it!)

(Hmmmm)

Aya, who had been looking on, joined Chihaya’s attempt side by side. Noting that her buddy’s had firmly grabbed the handle, Chihaya signaled her from the corners of her eyes.

The hatch had not budged at all, but now with a pair of focused buddies at work, the cover lifted slightly and shook. It seemed like the hinge was breaking loose.

The pair returned to the locked mess hall doors.

(Where’s your key?) Chihaya gestured to Aya, to which Aya shook her head. She must have lost it amid the torrents that poured in and flooded their cabin.

(...) Chihaya yanked on the padlock while trying to keep herself steady mid-water. It was a pretty serious mechanism and not something maneuverable with bare hands.

(Sorry) Aya's hair was flowing. She looked like she was about to cry.

Chihaya felt a warm and soft pressure against her lips.

Startled, she withdrew, but it had Chihaya’s head tight in its grip and would not let go. Then it used its tight seal to propel warm into her mouth.

FMS Episode One 39

(Aya!)

Chihaya squinted her eyes and looked down at random pieces of furniture scattered on the deck. Aya might be trapped beneath this debris.

(Aya, where are you?)

Rotating her body, Chihaya kicked the overhead with her feet and sank back down to the deck, securing her hand under a large storage berth.

(Ughh)

Chihaya exerted force with her arm muscles. But the storage didn’t seem to budge an inch.

"Glub"

Bubbles streamed out of Chihaya’s mouth. ...
