I mentioned recently that I'd like to capture new screens for the next Anatomy book, which will be time-consuming but not exactly a burden since the novelty of RGB-modded NES hardware still feels so fresh and fun. Here's the first step in that process: A full play through of Bionic Commando. It was pretty interesting playing this on real hardware for the first time in god knows how long — I had forgotten just how much slowdown and flicker were part of the actual game. Capcom really pushed that...

This week has been kind of a mess for me, so apologies that I didn't share this link sooner — but, in any case, the penultimate (I think) entry of Metroid Fusion is up. As soon as I have some coffee and can function fully this morning, I'm going to record the final segm...

Just three more entries to go, and Metroid Fusion will be done! Probably three. Maybe four. It's hard to know until I'm done. And then... Zero Mission, maybe?
In other news, I'll finally be able to jump back into Game Boy World production this weekend â...

Ahoy hoy, everyone. The latest Metroid Fusion entry is up, and there's a pretty decent chance I can have the game done by the end of the month. We'll see! I figure it has about four entries left in it.
It's probably going to be another couple of weeks before the next Game Bo...

Man, thank goodness I'm playing Metroid Fusion on Virtual Console and can take advantage of save states. This is the third update in a row with a vicious, death-inducing battle to contend with. In fact, this one might be the worst of them all: The battle with Nightmare, probably the m...

A long-overdue new entry in The Anatomy of Metroid Fusion is up. Hoorah! I believe I'm just a few entries from being finished with this series.

Hi everyone, here's the last of the current batch of Game Boy World videos. It's also the game we all care about the least! As Trumps go, though, I'd much rather spend time with this one than with Donald.

I was tired and jetlagged when I rendered Game Boy World 038 and literally fell asleep while outputting it last night, so I didn't notice until after it was posted that I had rendered it in 480p rather than 720p. The revamped version is embedded here! Not sure anyone will notice, but I care. Sorry for the goof.

Hello, small friends! And large ones, too. Here is another two-for-one episode: This time, it's a look at two completely unrelated games that happen to be about penguins, and happen to have launched a week apart. Weird coincidence! So yes, let's strain to find meaning in coincidence. PENGUINS!
I'm traveling (yes, again) for the next week, but I am in the process of recording some raw game footage to take with me. Failing the chance to make more GBW episodes, though, I have some raw ...

I'm trying my best to get into a two-videos-per-week groove... even if that means going out of sequence. The general public will never know my shame, though! Only you here.
Anyway, this is a completely decent Game Boy release that unfortunately has no reason to exist. Kinda the story of the system's life, really.
Also, happy Independence Day! For those of you in the U.S. Everyone else, uh, happy Saturday!

Hi everyone, I wanted to post one last video before the end of the month, and I broke a few rules in the process. I've skipped over four episodes in order to get to the biggest episode yet, simply because I was so excited at the prospect of putting this one together. If you know much about Space Invaders for Game Boy, you surely understand why it's so fascinating. And if not, well, watch on and be amazed...

Hi everyone! I've been hard at work on Game Boy World this week and wanted to show off my progress so far. I've played a bunch of the next five games in the series — actually, more than that, since I've begun combining multiple titles into a single video where appropriate — and recording footage. My goal this weekend is to begin producing videos for these. This set will culminate in Space Invaders, which based on the script I've put together will definitely be a fantastic episode. Anyway, fe...

Hi everyone, I've been plugging away today at the updated version of the GameSpite Quarterly NES edition. It looks like it's going to weigh in at 314 pages — that's about 50% more content than the original book. A fair chunk of that comes from the game index I'm including. I'm trying to create the most complete chronological release list possible in addition to all the features and expanded write-ups. It's become a pretty massive project, but I think it's going to turn out to be pretty rad. I'...

Hi everyone, please don't tell, but I've been sneaking in little moments here and there during E3 to work on some Game Boy World videos. Here's one: A look at Konami's Quarth. Enjoy!

Hello, friends! The latest episode of Game Boy World is up on YouTube for you to check out. I'm trying to get a couple of these in the can before E3 starts, because once I hop on the plane to LA it's basically six days of non-stop work, stress, and not being able to fit thoughts about Game Boy into my puny mortal frame.
I hope you enjoy this episode despite my terrible struggles to pronounce "Moero! Pro Yakyuu" — it's more of a mouthful than it might seem.

I have no idea why, but the FFL and Tennis manuals scans didn't upload with the previous post. Sorry, Patreon's system is incredibly obtuse sometimes. Hopefully they come through OK this time.

Greetings! Here are more high-resolution versions of the latest Game Boy World scans: Japanese manuals for Tennis, Q Billion, The Sword of Hope, and The Final Fantasy Legend. FFL's Japanese manual is massive (40 pages), while the one for The Sword of Hope is really unique — rather than being printed as a booklet, it's an eight-panel foldout (which is why many text and image elements appear to be bisected; they extended across the folds). Some kind of cool stuff in here, if you're into that sor...

Hi all, the manual scanning project continues apace. Here are four more high-resolution Japanese manuals, for those of you who need... uh, Yakuman scans? Manga art of a dude getting beaned with a volleyball? Well, it's esoteric, but there ya go.
Please look forward to a new video early next week. Once E3 is over with, expect volume to increase again! Well, I hope, anyway. Life's been difficult and unpredictable lately; from what I hear, that's known as "the human condition." And thi...

One last video for the month of May! Nemesis is the most enjoyable game I've looked at in a while, and hopefully I make a good case for it.
Unfortunately, it'll be a while before I can post another video. Due to an unexpected death in the family, I'll be out of town for the next 10 days, away from my video capture and audio recording gear. And after that is E3. However, I intend to make use of my production down-time to get ahead on game research and scripts, so with luck I can stil...

Please let me blow your mind by presenting the third Game Boy World video in the space of a week. Unthinkable!
This one's a little different than usual in that it covers two games instead of one. Given their close chronological proximity and similar themes, though, it made sense to put them into a single episode. I'm sure there'll be many more multi-title episodes going forward.
In a sad twist, this morning when I went to look up the copyright credit for the footage from A Beautiful Mind I'd ...

It's the oldest game I've covered so far! Dating back to 1979, Heiankyo Alien was so old it could have been on Microvision rather than Game Boy! That would have been terrible, though. I'm glad Meldac held out for a better platform.

I flew cross-country yesterday at some ungodly hour and filled some of my transit time by getting started on another book revision. But this is a big one! Rather than simply convert GameSpite Quarterly 5 to an Amazon-friendly format, I'm totally overhauling it — adding entries for dozens of games, expanding the text, updating it, and more. It'll probably take a month or two to put together (I'm targeting July 1), but confident it'll be pretty great! And you'll receive the PDF version once it's...

My hand has healed a bit over the past week of inactivity... just in time for me to vanish off the grid for a while as I attend E3 Judges Week in Santa Monica. I'm taking along some video and audio footage with the hopes I'll have time to do a bit of video production while I'm traveling, and maybe some Anatomy of Games work, too. In the meantime, I wanted to pass along a little preview for you — the scripts for the next four Game Boy World episodes. Spoil the surprise for yourself! They're in ...

I'm running way behind on video production lately due to a few factors... the main one being that I seriously messed up my hand last week and it hurts to doing anything involving typing, a mouse, or a trackpad. I also can't play video games to record video footage without experiencing severe agony. Yeah! Awesome.
So, in lieu of creating content while I'm healing, I've been scanning and prepping Game Boy manuals. So far I've made it about halfway through the Japanese manuals for 1989. And, as wi...
