Now it's The Goonies II at Anatomy of Games

A new project kicks off today... but not the one I had originally planned. Mainly because I decided I'd like to stop using Annie the Mermaid as my avatar on Twitter. Never say die!

Oh, hey

Here's the article to go with the video from earlier today. Words in print! How quaint.

Game Boy World: The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle

Before putting together the first Game Boy World video, I'd never used Adobe Premiere (or in fact any pro-level video app) before. This entire venture has been a learning process for me, and you can see that with this episode. It's definitely the most complex and intricate video I've produced so far, but it still has a lot of rough edges. Sorry about those! Eventually, these will be good. And they won't take 10-12 hours to produce. Thanks for your patience and support.... Don't forget, these vi...

Game Boy World gallery additions

Thanks to your support through Patreon, I've been able to get a start on realizing one of my loftier ambitions for Game Boy World: Sourcing complete physical Game Boy releases to create clean, clear photography of these games' packaging. Now, there are some GB games that go for upwards of $1000 complete, so I don't imagine I'll be able to create fully galleries for every game. But I will do the best I can! I really want Game Boy World to be a comprehensive resource for the platform, and this is ...

Anatomy of Mega Man 2: That's a wrap

And here's the final chapter of this look at the design of Mega Man 2. I'll begin working on the book version in the next week or so, and you should expect your PDF copy sometime in mid-August! Print copies will take a bit longer, because I will be traveling (and not home to ship stuff) almost non-stop for six weeks starting August 18. Thanks for your support for this project!

15 down, one to go

Just one more entry left in The Anatomy of Mega Man 2. And then...!? Some great news, though. Thanks to a very generous reader, the video quality for Game Boy World should be taking a massive step upward in the near future, I believe. I'm in the process of sourcing some top-end recording gear that will make GBW videos (and other works from old games system) truly gorgeous. Hopefully my video editing skills will improve to be worthy of the raw footage...

Winding down The Anatomy of Mega Man 2

Hey everyone, this week I'll be publishing the final three entries in The Anatomy of Mega Man 2. (Two more to go after this.) Once that's done, I'll be working on compiling it and The Anatomy of Mega Man into a book. The PDF version should go out to backers next month, when the book is complete, and the physical copies (for those who support at that level) will hopefully go out in September. I will let you know of any changes to that plan; it looks like I will literally be circling the globe in ...

The official Metroidvania.com kickoff

Greeting, friends! I've been working on this video for a couple of weeks, and while it's not perfect I'm happy enough to let it loose and declare Metroidvania.com officially open for business. The first REAL Metroidvania Chronicles entry may be a while yet, but it's all officially in the works now. Hope you enjoy it!

Boxxle text & video retrospective: Game Boy World

OK, Game Boy World is rolling steady now with this retrospective. It's about pushing boxes. Are you pumped? YEAH! The video lacks the usual Super Game Boy frame because for some reason my SGB refused to read the Boxxle cart. Every other Game Boy device I own handled it with no problem. Technology is so finicky.

We're getting pretty close to the end of Mega Man 2, here. And then...!?

#005: On to Dr. Wily's lair

My one regret with this article is that it couldn't show off the amazing theme music that goes with Dr. Wily's stages in Mega Man 2. Well, I guess that's what the video will be for....

Of possible interest to Game Boy World readers

Over at USgamer, I've put together a fairly lengthy retrospective on the Atari Lynx. Consider it a prelude to GBW's upcoming Lynx coverage. Enjoy! (And hopefully you won't mind if I post the occasional bonus link to things I publish elsewhere that touch on some of the same themes and material as GBW/Anatomy/etc.)

#004: The Anatomy of Mega Man 2 takes on Crash Man

My final post for this week — happy holiday, fellow Americans — looks at the last of Mega Man 2's eight main stages. Next, on to Dr. Wily. Please hum the "Wily Stage 1" theme to put yourself in the proper mood for this event.

Videos: Now on iTunes

For those of you who prefer their Internet shows to download automagically in the background through iTunes, I'm happy to tell you that the videos associated with this project can indeed be acquired through the cold, corporate ecosystem of Apple. It's like a podcast, but with moving pictures. Enjoy!

#003: The Game Boy (DGM-001)

Hey everyone, here's the main course of this venture: The latest Game Boy World text and video post. This entry has been a long time coming, because it was a huge topic and a much more complex video than I've ever produced before. The text is basically a transcription of the video script, which won't be standard procedure for GBW, but in this case it made more sense than creating two separate works that said the same basic thing. I hope you enjoy the article and video, and you can expect more ...

#002: The Anatomy of Mega Man 2 - X - In a flash

Hello, supporters! Here is your second update, another entry in The Anatomy of Mega Man 2. Since we hit several funding goals this week, I'm shooting to make next week all-video: One for Game Boy World, one for Metroidvania, and possibly the first chunk of a retroactive Anatomy video series. Please look forward to it! And thanks so much for your support over the past few days.
