Secret Documents #162: SA-342 Gazelle Guide Update - Cockpit & Start-Up

Hi folks!

The Gazelle guide overhaul is going full steam ahead. Work is progressing very quickly, and I hope I can bring the SA-342 guide up to snuff with the other helicopter guides such as the Huey and Mi-8.

In this entry, you will see the new cockpit & equipment section and the start-up section as well. This format will feel more familiar to those of you who are used to my latest work, and my goal is not to re-invent the wheel but primarily to make the whole thing mor...

Secret Documents #161: F-14B Tomcat Guide Update - INS & Navigation Fixes

Hi folks!

There was a little something missing from the Tomcat's guide: what to do when the INS (Inertial Navigation System) accumulates drift and needs to be corrected with navigation fixes. Well, wonder no more.

Mirage 2000C & F1 Guides Updated

Hi folks!

As promised, the Mirage 2000C guide was given a few improvements. Some of the work I did on the Mirage F1 proved to be quite useful in that regard, so spending some extra time on the engine and fuel sections ended up saving me some time in the end. The page count increased from 330+ to 390+... happy reading!

Secret Documents #160: Mirage 2000C Guide Update - Powerplant & Fuel

Hi folks!

The Mirage 2000's section on the engine and fuel systems was pretty barebones, so I thought I'd do a complete rework to provide better information.

August 2023 - Maintenance & Updates

Hi folks!

First, I want to thank you guys for all the kind words regarding the release of the Mirage F1 guide. It was quite a difficult journey; I know some of you waited a long time, but I hope it was worth the wait. The community's response has been overwhelmingly positive, and I hope Aerges can bring us more great modules with the same quality standard in the not too distant future.

Secret Documents #158: Mirage F1 Guide - Navigation Part 2

Hi folks!

This time, we dive deeper into the Mirage F1EE and its spooky INS (Inertial Navigation System). It's a fairly useful tool at your disposal and allows for more complex flight plans, even with its limited number of waypoints and drift.

Of course, there is also the ILS tutorial. I included some extra information pertaining to the autopilot (mainly the Route/Localizer and Glide Slo...

June 2023 - Show don't tell

Hi folks!

I apologize for the lack of news in the recent weeks. Work is still going on, but at a slower pace than expected since I had to rewrite a few sections with wrong data/parameters being used (big d'oh on my part)... but also due to a busy last month at my IRL job. I'll try my best to release the Mirage in June. Time to finish this guide.

Secret Documents #156: Mirage F1 Guide - Radios & Autopilot

Hi folks!

May the "fourth" be with you! Let's dive into the communication systems of the Mirage. While we're at it, I'll also throw in there the autopilot section. There are plenty of nice features to explore behind these seemingly simple systems.

May 2023 - Mois de la Fléchette

Hi folks!

This month, the Mirage guide is darting towards the finish line. The radio, autopilot, navigation and air-to-air refueling sections still require a good amount of work, but I can safely say that the end is in sight. The final document is shaping up to be almost as massive as the Viggen guide... bets are off for the final page count. Of course, I'll need a bit of time to make a revision pass to purge as many typos/errors as possible to ensure the expected quality standards are ...

Secret Documents #155: Mirage F1 Guide - Defensive Systems & IFF

Hi folks!

This week, we launch chaff, pop flares and make some jamming noise. We will also talk a bit about the Mirage F1's IFF capabilities (or lack thereof). Some IFF transponder functionalities can still be useful for roleplay in case mission makers feel like adding some extra spicy scenarios. One can dream, eh?

Secret Documents #154: Mirage F1 Guide - Weapons Part 2

Hi folks!

Let's talk air-to-ground. The Mirage can carry a number of interesting weapons; low-drag bombs, high-drag bombs, rockets, cluster bombs, anti-runway penetration bombs and even laser-guided bombs. However, the lack of radar altimeter means that you rely on barometric altitude readings to perform your attack. This means... you'll have to take into account barometric pressure. While Viggen and F-5 drivers already know this specific kind of pain... now's your turn.

Secret Documents #153: Mirage F1 Guide - Weapons Part 1

Hi folks!

Let's talk air-to-air weapons. The Mirage has an interesting selection of missiles, both IR for close-range combat and SARH for medium-range engagements. The 30 mm DEFA guns also pack a mighty punch. The Mirage F1CE being an export variant, you will notice that you can equip american, french and even spanish weapons.

April 2023 - À la chasse, bordel!

Hi folks!

This month, I plan to complete the weapons section of the Mirage F1. Then, defensive systems will follow. It's a lot of work since making things clear and simple is no easy task, but I have a feeling things will go smoothly once I'm done with these two long-awaited sections.

I took the Mirage on a few online sorties and I am loving every second of it. This fighter is fast ...

Secret Documents #152: Mirage F1 Guide - Radar

Hi folks!

The section on the Mirage F1's Cyrano IV radar proved to be more complicated to write than anticipated. On one hand, multiple versions of the Cyrano were exported to different operators, which means that anything you read is not necessarily applicable to the F1CE or F1EE version of the Mirage. You can easily guess how confusing that can be since information on this radar is sparse at best. Another challenging aspect of this section was figuring out what is modelled, what is pa...

Mirage F1

Work continues on the Mirage F1. Things are going very well so far. As was to be expected, the Mirage is really starting to grow on me. Now that we've got the "on-ground" part ironed out, it's time to take that beauty up in the air.

Secret Documents #149: Mirage F1 Guide - Start-Up (F1EE)

Hi folks!

This time around, let's start-up the Mirage F1EE. I wrote a complete and separate procedure. Why? Because some switches are placed at different places in the cockpit compared to the F1CE, so instead of having the user spend time looking back and forth between the cockpit and the start-up section... I thought it would be easier to just list everything.

The INS alignment comes in the usual flavors; stored heading and full alignment (not counting Fast Alignment, which is si...

Secret Documents #148: Mirage F1 Guide - Start-Up (F1CE)

Hi folks!

Let's learn how to start-up the Mirage F1CE.

The sequence is fairly straightforward. The lack of INS (Inertial Navigation System) means that the start-up sequence is pretty quick. You'll be up in the air in no time! The Mirage 2000 connoisseurs among you will notice a couple of similarities with the F1 (mainly the engine start sequence).

Secret Documents #147: Mirage F1 Guide - Cockpit

Hi folks!

Let's start this Mirage F1 series with a bang, shall we? Let's explore the cockpit for a bit. While many switches were identified in the developer's manual, there are many instances where what the switch does isn't clearly explained. The research phase was very, very fun and I realized that the F1 had many commonalities with its older brother: the Mirage III. Some of the information I found on the Mirage III proved to be invaluable in figuring out how the plane worked. Most of...

It's a fairly complex procedure, but I tried to simplify it as much as possible compared to the ICLS tutorial. February 2023 - Month of the Mirage F1

Hi folks!

Last month was pretty brutal in terms of workload; I managed to blitz my way through a year's worth of backlog in about a month. With the F-86 Sabre, MiG-15, Mi-24P Hind, Ka-50 Black Shark and F-16 guide updates completed, I plan on taking a short "operational pause" to recharge my batteries for about a week or so.

After that, I can finally start working on something new that isn't the Apache. You know what this means, right? This means... it's time for the Mirage...
