Gnoll Tales Progress Update

I’ve been talking about it on Twitter and Mastodon, but I can give you guys a bit more information about the upcoming book I'm working on, Gnoll Tales. So far, I’ve gotten eleven stories done for this collection, and have one more I’m writing. The breakdown of stories and their word counts currently, are as follows.

(Sorry for the image also. Patreon doesn’t support tables.) View Post

The Dice Game of Stripes or Spots (Short Story)

This is one of the new stories I wrote for my upcoming collection, Gnoll Tales.

When the world was very young Aranya carved the first dice from a piece of the bones of the world. Oanyu, who painted the colors of dawn and dusk had a bit of black left over and he added it to the sides of the dice to give them different meanings. He and Aranya enjoyed rolling these dice and guessing what the results of each die would be. From this, they devised the first gambling ...

2022 Year in Review

I wrote a year in review to post online for places, but I thought I'd share it here. This is geared for a non Patreon audience, but this gets you an update on what I'm working on and such. I'll be releasing the new Gnoll Tales stories on here this month and next, and then I'll get back to the The Bood of Life.

I kept busy in 2022, and I managed to get a lot done. When the year started, I was knee deep in finishing up 2023-01-06 02:29:05 +0000 UTC View Post

The Eyeshine of Soothsayer (Short Story)

I'm a bit behind on Patreon, so let's catch up for Christmas! This appeared earlier this month in When the World Was Young, an anthology I helped spawn. I hope you all are having a good holiday if you celebrate, or a a generally relaxing day otherwise. Enjoy the story.

Slight Delay on Next Chapter

November has proven to be a really busy month for me, and I just haven't gotten the next chapter of the The Blood of Life as polished as I wanted. I'll also be attending MFF this weekend, so I'll see if I can finish my edits tomorrow on my trip up, but realistically, things might not get uploaded till the 6th.

I do though have a new story coming out at MFF in the When the World Was Young anthology. My con...

Elon Bought My Social Network! (Game)

The news about Twitter has gotten me thinking, and I had a crazy idea yesterday after work. I've seen one-page RPGs before, and they're usually fun little things, so I decided to create my own. Inspired by the struggle small creators are having on Twitter with the fate of the site, I present you Elon Bought my Social Network!, a one-page RPG about being a small creator.

It takes about five to ten minutes to play, and if you're lucky, you can migrate your audience to a new site ...

The Blood of Life - Chapter 4 - The Seduction of Loneliness

It took me longer to get this done than I wanted, but finally, chapter 4.

The little rest I can grab is brief and fitful. I usually sleep like the dead, but the few hours I have before nightfall do nothing to relax me. Instead, it just makes me nervous. I am up at dusk, already on my feet, ready to head out. There is just the faintest glow at the covered window, and after I light the lamp to confirm the time, I cautiously pull back the cloth I draped over the window ...

Project Updates

Hey everyone. I’ve decided to hold the next chapter of the novella for the 5th of next month. I’m trying to force myself to adhere to a set schedule for Patreon, and since I posted the AI story earlier this month, I'm going to take some more time to work on the chapter. The novella is going well so far although I wanted to be a bit further ahead with it. I anticipate finishing the first draft by the end of the year though, so that’s good.

I did put the finishing touches today on a...

The Art Generator (Short Story)

Back in July, when AI art generation technology was first picking up steam in the news, I wrote this flash fiction story about it. Naturally, as the editor of a dystopian fiction anthology, I had to take a critical look at the topic. This is one of the few non-furry pieces I've done.

The technology started innocuously enough, memes made from amusing prompts rendering in drawings with wonky anatomy and non-Euclidean geometry. It was all built on previous work, and the...

The Blood of Life - Chapter 3 - A Rest Interrupted

This is a little more rough than I wanted to be, but I've added some material to this chapter since my writing group looked at it. It builds on the previous chapters and now we're starting to see how things are developing.

The sound of someone knocking awakens me with a start. I am lying on the bed, my clothing stripped off. It’s not a proper resting place with the meager amount of dirt I have, but I know I was truly asleep this time. The extra sack of soil I secur...

The Blood of Life - Chapter 2 - The Twilight of Life

I just had my writing group look over Chapter 3 earlier today, and I've have some tweaks to make before I post that next month, but here's Chapter 2! Ekrem enters the novella in this chapter.

It amazes me that even after all these years, Strasek still looks like the village I remember. So much has changed since the wars of Napoleon and the recent revolutions, yet it seems time has frozen here. Great battles have been fought, nations have come and gone, but here in th...

The Blood of Life - Chapter 1 - The Twisted Vines of the Past

I've been working on a novella called The Blood of Life based on the characters from my short story, "Loving You is Wrong." I posted this chapter last year, but I've finally been working on the book these last few months. I ran this by my writing group earlier this month, and I've made a few tweaks to it to that I'm sharing.

Also, I'll be posting a new chapter each mont...

Scars of the Golden Dancer, Chapter 3 - Crimson Lines (Updated)

Also to round out my May content this month, the updated version of chapter 3 of Scars of the Golden Dancer. If you've got the interest, take a look at the earlier draft version and see how it compares with what I published.

Midnight in the Dust of a Fallen World (story)

As I promised, my other non furry piece for this month. This is short and a general reflection on the pointlessness of nuclear war, and what surviving it would mean.

The world roared and all there that could be heard was endless death. Clutched safe in the bowels of the earth, he could feel it. He heard the angry reverberation of the end and then the silence. This was it. There was nothing left. Sure, there was to be an after, but what type of after was this to be wi...

Be (Poem)

First up for my content this month is a poem I wrote last week.

Be

It’s there on the wall, it’s there in the news,

They want you to be all you can be,

But only the be they think you should be,

Not the be you might be.

Be the white you were born to be or be gone

They call out on the news—

Don’t be the white you shouldn’t be,

Or the other no one wants to see.

May 2022 Content

I’ve been a little lost for what to do with the Patreon lately. I’ve been transitioning away from short stories as the focus of my writing into longer work as the primary form of writing I do, so I’m unsure how best to utilize Patreon. Should I post the first draft of a chapter? I don’t know how many short stories I will be writing moving forward. I enjoy doing them, but they take time away from working on bigger projects.

Lately, I’ve taken it easy and been posting updated no...

Scars of the Golden Dancer, Chapter 2 - A Repeat Customer (Updated)

I thought I should post the updated version of Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 since I did Chapter 1. I don't think I revised as much major stuff here in Chapter 2,. so I'll have Chapter 3 up in a tomorrow. Also, I've got a surprise for you coming in a few days.

March 2022 Recap

I tossed up a general journal outside of Patreon tonight, and I thought I'd share it here.

Since it was so busy in March, I figured I should do a little recap. Doing two cons almost back-to-back was more tiring than I expected, but it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed talking to people about my writing and getting to do some writing panels. Selling at a con can be challenging, but I look forward to running a table again soon. Scars of the Golden Dancer, Chapter 1 - The Caravanserai (Updated)

For March, I decided to post the updated version of Chapter 1 from “Scars of the Golden Dancer.” This shows how the first chapter evolved after working on the novel for two more years. One thing that changed drastically during the editing process is how Naji engages with Zayn. After getting feedback on it, I realized I needed to make the relationship healthier, which I did in this chapter and throughout the book. Naji’s state of mind has subtly shifted compared to the earlier versio...

A New Decade (Story)

I've been so busy getting stuff ready for my GOH appearance at Fur the 'More I haven't had time to polishing anything up for Patreon this month. Thus I'm sharing my con book story that's coming out at  the con this weekend. Since the theme for the con is Furries and Fedoras, I created something that introduces the 1920s to the reader.

Scars of the Golden Dancer now available for pre-order

Brief update. I’ve been busy preparing for my GOH appearance at Fur the ‘More next month. I’ve got the novel done and already have copies to take to the con, so I’ve started taking preorders for my first novel, Scars of the Golden Dancer. This has been a big process for me, but I’ve got it available in softcover and hardcover. In addition, the Knotty Wor...

Stars and Moon (Story)

It's been a long month for me with getting the novel into print, and then pushing hard on bringing about a collection. I do though have the story for this month done. It's another gnoll myth piece.

When the Old Gods created the world, they divided up the responsibilities among themselves. How exactly they divided the labor is unknown, but certain gods tackled certain problems together. From the songs of old, we know that the elf gods worked on the earth, sowing the bounty of t...

Thank You for Your Support

It’s a new year, and I want to thank each of you for your support on here. It’s meant a lot for me and really helped me out a lot. Having this outlet has been wonderful for me, so I must thank each of you for subscribing

During the pandemic, Patreon has been a lifeline for my writing because it requires me to keep content coming. It’s been a form of accountability I’ve done my best to answer to, and because of that, I always need to have something going on. A few times I’ve ha...

Christmas Fruitcake (Story)

I wanted to get this done by Christmas, but I got a little sidetracked with novel edits. Then stuff related to Christmas took up my time. I wrote the first draft of this last year, and it was a very different piece then. I wasn't happy with that version, so this received extensive rewrites before the version you see here came about. Initially, this was called "Before the Jazz" and dealt with a speakeasy, but during editing, it turned into a Christmas story when the fruitcake part was adde...

A Few Thoughts on Productivity

It’s been a while since I’ve talked just about writing itself on here, so I thought I should give a little insight into how I work.

Inspiration is a fickle thing. Sometimes it hits, and it hits hard, and sometimes it never comes. Some writers have fixed schedules for doing their writing, and that’s great. That’s not how I work. I seem to have an ebb and flow approach, and while the tide is sometimes out, sometimes it comes crashing in, demanding I respond to it. The result is I...

Story - The Stars We Know

I wrote this a little while ago off of a crazy idea I had. I was talking to a friend, and this idea came to me. I hope you enjoy.

The sun had just touched the horizon when Meekie started up the trail to the outcropping. The pups had already left, and they would be expecting her. The sky was clear and today was the new moon. It would be a good night for stargazing, and as the village’s chronicler, it was her duty to tell the story. And if her calculations were corre...

The Harvest Moon Ceremony - (Story)

I don't like running reprints, but the last week and a half has been exceedingly hectic. I do though have a lot of stories that haven't got a lot of exposure, so when I have to I go looking for rarities in my collection. I was working on novel edits in the middle part of the month, and when I wanted to work on Patreon content, I got slammed by some life stuff. I also don't want to delay the post since I did that two times in a row, and I need to get my monthly schedule back on track....
