Sorry I've been quiet this month. I've working on a post about magic systems that will be up by Sunday. In the mean time, the pandemic has been on my mind, so this month's story is about current events in a world with uplifted animals. I have been wondered what a dog would be going though working in a hospital as a social worker, so without further adieu... Encouragement.

I hope everyone is staying safe and following your local social distancing guidelines. I expect all of us are under a stay-at-home order of some kind. Currently, I barely leave the house, limiting my time out of the house to essential activities only. I’m working from home, so my morning commute is the twenty to thirty seconds it takes me to get over to my desk when it’s time to sign in.
Because of all these changes, I’ve got a lot more free time now, so you thi...

I’ve excited to let you all know I’ve been asked to be the Guest of Honor at Fur the More 2021! This was announced last weekend at closing ceremonies and I got to go up on stage and introduce myself to the audience. This is a great honor and I plan to create some stories for the con tying into next year’s Roaring Twenties theme. As part of this, I’ve already snagged a magazine about the 1920s I’ll be using to kick-start my research on the subject.
On the flip side th...

To celebrate my birthday this week, I've decided to put the sequel to A Moment of Darkness online today. This story continues to build up the relationship Ammar and Ezra have while still being a kinky story with a positive view on their relationship. This also continues with Ammar's battle against cancer. Anyway, enjoy!
I whine. I whine like I need it more than life itself, even though I know that is a lie. I need my life more than anything else, but right n...

I had a few minutes before the fantasy panel I did today at Texas Furry Fiesta to draw a map to talk about during the panel. It is a bit rough, but it gets the point across.

I haven't had time to revise the story I wanted to put up this month, so I decided to run a reprint. This story originally appeared in the book Knotted back in 2016, and is one of my favorite pieces. I don't write a lot of heavy kink, so this story and it's sequel are unique among my writing. I also am glad I was able to do a piece like this that is so serious while also making it kinky. I'll post the sequel next month.
There is a tug on my tail as the last ...

Also, since I was just talking about the novel, I've got a pic of Naji and Zayn I would like to share done for me by GoldenDruid. She did the sketch for this a couple years ago, but I finally had her color it. You can find this on FA if you want to leave a comment for the artist. She does amazing work and it's well worth watching her.

I wanted to take a moment to give you an update on the novel and where things stand right now. I did submit the book to a publisher back in November, but it got rejected. I did get some feedback on it I’ve been pondering. Since the book got rejected, I’ve passed it off to some beta readers, who I’m still waiting to get back to me on what they think of the entire book. In the meantime, I’ve decided to apply for a weeklong writing workshop, ReRAWR, that will be held i...

One of the things it has taken me a while to realize is I can’t write a story without knowing the conflict that drives it. Tension is good, but until I understand the conflict and decide what that is, I can’t seem to bring the story toward a conclusion. I have always been more of a panster than a planer when it comes to how I write. I feel that is starting to change, but I still like to just take an idea and run with it. "Loving You is Wrong," is an example of this technique. I wrote it q...

This months story is set in Egypt and deals with Ancient Egyptian mythology.
Irsu crouched behind the pillar in the darkness, his tail lashing silently behind him. Only the faintest light crept in from outside, but the two fennecs the cheetah was watching had entered the tomb carrying an oil lamp that cast long shadows through the antechamber. The fennecs were talking as they studied the hieroglyphics and the sealed door of the tomb.
“I was righ...

There is an antidote that goes around the art world every few years I want to share with you, and break down. You can read one take on this story, but I’ve got the full excerpt here:

Dear Patrons
I hope everyone had a good Christmas, if you celebrate, are having a happy Hanukkah, enjoying any holiday they celebrate, or at least not being too stressed by the holiday season if it's not your thing. I've been running around a lot for the holidays, and while I made some progress on a new story for this month, I'm running short on time. Thus, I decided to put up chapter 3 of Scars of the Golden Dancer for this month's feature. It's longer than what I was plan...

This month's Patreon story is the vampire fox story I've been poking at. This is actually the third attempt at a story with this protagonist, Radic. I was working on attempt number two earlier this week, and while that reached a near complete first draft, I was still unsatisfied with it. However, after putting down that draft for the day, this idea popped into my head, and I wrote this fairly quickly in a single sitting. I'm much more pleased at this approach, and it embraces the gothic h...

Editing is a big part of the writing process. The words we write in our first drafts aren’t always very good. Spelling, grammar, and stylistic issues often exist in these early drafts. I’m not able to give you a comprehensive view of how to improve your fiction in a single post, but I do have an example of awful fiction and how I made it better. Better yet, I wrote this atrocity, so I feel no remorse ripping this sample apart. The excerpt is actually from the first short story I ever got ...

Writing is inherently a lonely profession, and posting on the internet is throwing something out there into the ether. You never know how people will respond to it, or even if they will. It's been a journey doing this, and since it's #ThankYouPatrons Day, I would be deeply remiss to not say how awesome having people actually supporting me is, so thank you all. I appreciate it immensely.

Hey guys, been a little busy this month doing novel edits, so I don’t have a lot I can share right now. I do have some scenes for a vampire fox story I’ve been wanting to work on, but haven’t been able to squeeze in. I’m actually doing some final tweaks tonight so I can submit the novel to a publisher this week. I’ve decided I’m not going to pause the campaign for November because I’m not feeling as worn out as I expected I’d be, and I really, really want to write this v...

I've been hard at work on novel stuff this month, but I still need to write a new story for Patreon this month. First though, I'd like to offer you one of my older pieces that was published back in 2014 in Trick or Treat 2, published by Rabbit Valley:
October 30th, 1901
"They say he can summon the dead," said the stranger. A lynx, he had leaned forward to speak softly to me.
I had grown increasingly uncomfortable about this situ...

This is something I’ve pondered for a while and would like to talk about. First though, for those of you now familiar with the Bechdel Test, a definition. This test is a way to measure the role of woman in movies that is increasingly being applied to fiction. The test has three simple criteria:
1. The movie has to have at least two women in it,
2. who talk to each other,
3. about something besides a man.
This test is simple, it’s efficient, and it’s easy to use t...

As promised, the first chapter of my in progress novel.
The desert moon shines like a jewel in the night sky, full and bright, watching over the caravan town. Now that the sun has set, the dry air is cool, and the wind shifts lazily over the dunes, ruffling my fur. With the stifling heat of the day fading away, it's refreshing to be outside now.
I've never been here before, so I didn't know what to expect. This village is off the main caravan routes through the...

You'll notice I just posted a piece of world building tidbit about the novel today, and have not yet posted the sample chapter I promised. I'm sorry about that, but things got a little backed up. Both of these posts have been quite serious. I've also for the last few days been tracking a hurricane that has been a possible threat to the part of Florida I'm in. As of writing this, things are looking great for where I am, but there is still a major, destructive storm out there.

I’d like to talk about some of the research that’s gone into the world building for the book. Research is critical to writing a book like Scars of the Golden Dancer. For this discussion, I’ve included citations, should you the reader wish to read up on the topics I’m going to discuss. One of the things I’ve struggled with the most finding information about is the Köçek. Köçeks were male dancers who dressed in feminine clothing in the Ottoman empire.[1] This task would b...

The originally concept for the world that Scars of the Golden Dancer is set in came to me in 2010. The year before, Eurofurence’s theme was the Arabian Nights, and I recall looking at some of the art for the con and being fascinated by it. A specific piece of art with a fennec prince caught my intention, and it stuck with me. I wanted to read a story like this, but no such story existed that I knew of, so I decided at some point to write a novel about a fennec prince. I started wor...

This month and next month, I’ll be working on finishing editing my first novel, Scars of the Golden Dancer, in preparation to send it to a publisher. This project has been in development for a very long time, but slowly it has come together. The story is complete, and I’ve started thinking about the sequel. The prequel story to the novel, Silk and Sword was published this summer in FANG Volume 9.
Thus, for the next two months, I’m going to talk about some of the...

For a Patreon marked as 18+, I've posted surprisingly little adult content, and nothing sexually explicit has appeared here yet, until today. This story came to me earlier this month, and I wrote the first draft in two hours and ten minutes, with a break for lunch, a surprisingly quick first draft for me. It uses the same characters from "Unknown Stains" and has been a good tool for me to understand some of the characters' emotional issues. I'm submitting "Unknown Stains" tonight to FANG ...

Since I’ve been working on that “Unknown Stains” story I showed you guys an excerpt of last month, and I have edits on a different story I need to work on for Heat, I want to talk about some of the research I put into writing my fiction, specifically with these two erotica pieces as examples.
At first glance, the idea that you would need to do any research to write an erotica story might seem silly. Sure, there could be some basics, but once you get to the sex, ...

It is time to write this kick-ass story, and you know what you want to write. This story is going to be better than everything you've done to date. You've got a plan. You have a plot. The characters have agency over the story. You have world building to support your setting and characters. You know who your characters are. You know what they want. You even know what they had for breakfast. Wait, what did they eat for dinner? Is that even important? And did you know if this passes the Be...

First, I want to thank everyone who's joined this so far. You guys rock! I've been doing some thinking, and I made a decision that I think will benefit all my patrons. I've decided to merge the $1 and $5 tier to be a single $3 tier. This won't affect existing patrons though, so I've marked those tiers as "founder" to signify I won't change those. The way Patreon works, I can't reprice a tier without unpublishing it. I did talk to all of the $1 tier patrons to see if they would be receptive of...

I wrote this story last year, when I first heard that Straight Pride was a thing. Like the protagonist, I was angry about this form of culture jamming. Being LGBTQ+ can be hard, and I want to be proud of who I am. Yet sometimes I feel society in general just want to but us all back in the closet.
A lot has happened in the last year about this topic, and there apparently will be a Straight Pride event in Boston later this year. There is even now a flag for Straig...

I'm a personal fan of characters who show personality and like a good laugh. They're fun to write, and sometimes they pop out on the page. I previously wrote this when I attended RAWR back in 2017, but I've had some trouble finding the right tone I wanted to strike with it. This is an adult story, but this section is clean.
