DAO 14

Feng Wen landed like an arrow shot from a bow. He hit the ground on two feet and one fist, kneeling before me. I tilted my head back, hands behind my back, and reached out for my skill. It was like plucking a string. The System felt all the same since my return.

[Wen of the North Wind, Darkwind Scion Path Cultivator, ??? Realm Cultivator]

I flinched.

If Wen was a completely different person from who he had told me he was all these years, how ...

Chapter 13

Stef threw himself up the stairs two at a time. The young man had blown past the guard post at the bottom of the stairs — go figure.

They put layers of signs in brilliant red letters, constantly illuminated, telling people NOT to go into sections reserved specifically for security personnel. It was dangerous on top of Spearpoint’s walls! They weren’t made for random people to strut about the top!

Let alone in the middle of a devastating monster attack!<...

Chapter 29

Clare sat her father down on the couch and explained what had happened. No one had been bitten; no one here had even seen the outside since the start of the apocalypse. They did, however, barrage me with questions.

I tried to explain the system to them, but most of them were in their fifties or older, and it was hard to get them to understand.

“Okay.” Mike said, loud enough to cut me off mid conversation. The lights above us in the room were dimmer.

Chapter 28

With the monsters clearing the path before us, the rest of the trip was smooth. The lack of action stressed me more than the fighting had.

“Are the monsters avoiding the Blood-Spawn because it’s bigger?” Steve asked.

“If they were just avoiding higher tier monsters, they should be avoiding me. But they weren’t.” I said.

“Maybe they were.” Clarissa replied. Her eyes flitted to me and then away. “You said the vampire was contr...

Chapter 27

The scene flashed before me. I saw it — the Blood-Spawn running through the tunnel toward us.

“Seal the tunnel!” Clarissa shouted.

“Don’t!” Steve replied. “They can make it! We have time!”

[Move the Earth] activated. The wall sealed the cave. Everyone was screaming.

I snapped out of the spotty, moth eaten memory in time to hear the thump as the Blood-Spawn slammed into the wall of asphalt topped stone that I h...

Chapter 26

Steve and I stood outside, waiting for Clarissa. She had to grab her chainsaw — and gas, and oil for the blade.

The city smelled like ash. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the distant sights of the city. Now that I could see fine in the dark, the huge swathes of ruined city stood out to me. We were lucky that we had chosen to kill the progenitor vampire, and even luckier that we succeeded.

Hundreds of vampires must have died when we removed the permanent night...

Chapter 25

I panted above the broken bottle, alone in the dark. My lungs screamed for air, rebelling against the memory of the mage’s body shutting down as paralytic spread through his veins.

I hadn’t drank every last drop of blood in the bottle; the tiny droplets that escaped me and spilled onto the floor called to me. For a moment, the image of myself licking the blood off the dirty stone filled my head. And then I pressed my Willpower to the desire and resisted, stomping it out l...

Chapter 20

She was shaking. I could tell. I could see her in the dark, better than she could see me. I grimaced, revealing fangs still dripping with blackened blood, and she flinched.

“Demon.” She said.

“I’m not — I’m human. I was human until just yesterday.” I replied, raising my hands.

“Beware of false prophets.” She took a single step toward me.

There was a flash from behind her as Russo activated [Crimson Veil.] Hi...

Chapter 19

We shot across the college campus, passing abandoned cars with broken windows and corpses that littered the street. Those were new; there must have been other people left behind as we escaped the college.

The scenery blurred by as I applied the full weight of my stats, running once more with superhuman speed. Not as fast as I was under the effect of the Progenitor’s blood, but faster than I had ever been as a human.

[Internal threats: Hostile monsters withi...

VAMP 18

I shot up the stairs. The body of the blood-spawn had been pushed to the wall. A pile of rags covered the floor from attempts to clean it. The fireplace still burned with the remains of broken furniture. With a shrug, I dragged the monster to the door with me.

I had to unbar it from the furniture someone had piled in the way, then carried the monster up the stairs and to the open windows. With a grunt, I threw the monster corpse outside, letting it fall to the ground with a w...

Vamp 17

“What do you think happened to the ISS?” Steve asked after we arrived at the castle. The group had went to work right away.

Russo worked to reinforce the exits and figure out a way to block the windows upstairs, while others worked to clean out the rooms. Broken furniture was being dragged upstairs to the fire place.

We still had to figure out what to do with the bodies. But we had brought shovels.

I grimaced at the thought of Jason. If w...
