One of the things we love most about working on People Make Games is having the time to really think about how we want to visualise each story.
From the big reveal in Getting into the games industry to the way in which Anni brought life to Wishworld, the game that became Fable, we're always talking about new way...

Hello!
We're now eight days into August, which means it's the perfect time to publish July's Patreon Show.
We've got a little behind-the-scenes footage from filming our Nuclear Gandhi episode to share, plus a look at what else we've been up to over the last few weeks.
And yeah, I'd also like to take a second to talk about what's been happening ...

We get a bit weird in this one, folks.
After reading a tweet that suggested the infamous Nuclear Gandhi bug in Civilization might never have happened, Chris falls down a rabbit hole so big it requires an actual conspiracy board.
The truth is out there.

Hey everyone,
So here's a cool announcement that I've been desperately trying not to spoil for the last few months: I'm going to be filming a guest documentary for Noclip on the history of Creative Assembly, the creators of the Total War series.
This won't be published for a good while yet, but I'm going to be filming the bulk of the interviews this week. In fact, we're starting today!
I'm so excited about this project. It's a bit of a dream to be working wi...

Ever since we published our 'Getting into the games industry' episode last year, we've been looking to tell a story about unions and the kind of impact they might be able to have in this space.
Last month, Chris travelled over to Versailles to report on the layoffs happening at Blizzard Entertainment and the unions looking to protect the workers involved.
Let's have a chat about how this video got made!

I regret this thumbnail choice immediately.
In this month's Patreon Show we talk about visiting Versailles to loiter outside an office for a day, the time I met Tom Felton off of Harry Potter and finally, I get a bit cross with a local MP. Enjoy.
And as ever, thanks for supporting what we do!

Hey patrons.
So as we mentioned in our last post, Chris went to visit the Blizzard office in Versailles earlier this month.
He went there to find out more about the 134 people set to lose their jobs in the coming weeks and, perhaps more to the point, he went to meet the unions which represent them.
If you're wondering what a unionised games industry could actually look like (we certainly are, given all the horror stories we keep hearing), this video might give you some idea....

Hey behind-the-scenes patrons!
We really enjoyed talking over our Fortnite dance move story back in April and so, we've decided to do it again for Wishworld.
There's a bunch of fun stuff to talk about here including Dene Carter's moustache, the logistics of recording pieces to camera while sitting on a very wobbly tree branch and Anni's vision for this ambitious game that never quite exi...

Hey Patrons,
I went to visit the Notre-Dame this morning and just like all the other tourists who'd come to gather around the cathedral as it undergoes reconstruction, I didn't really know what to do. So I took a photo.
I'm not a religious person, but I've spent a good chunk of today looking at this picture and thinking back to a video I watched on the night of the fire, as a group of Parisians wat...

Apologies for being a few days late on last month's Patreon Show, but it's been another busy old month for PMG.

Before Fable, there was Wishworld.
Join us as we track down a working build of that original game and (eventually) discover a concept nothing like Lionhead's blockbuster RPG.
We'll be moving on to non-Molyneux related topics with our next episode, we promise. But we just couldn't say no to uncovering this little gem of video games history. Enjoy!

Hey everyone,
You might have heard us briefly mention this in our latest video, but People Make Games now has its own merch store.
I know. We're like one of those proper YouTube channels now. Look at this:

Because this is our first attempt at doing something with merch, we're going to have ...

Hello, it's our birthday! Exactly 12 months ago today, Chris left his old job at Eurogamer and launched People Make Games on the very same afternoon. It was a bit of a day.
But you know what? That original pitch for the channel and our Patreon doesn't really fit where we're at now. For a start, there are two people running this ship, not just one. Perhaps it's about time we reintroduce ourselves.
Whether you were a patron from day one, or you've found us more recently, thank you s...

Hey everyone.
Just a quick update to let you know that we've been doing some spring cleaning around the People Make Games Discord server. If you haven't logged on in a while, you'll notice a bunch of new channels, plus a couple that have been renamed to better reflect how we've been using them.
If you've never used Discord before, now is a great time to jump in and say hello. Anni and I are often hanging around in our server, but much more importantly, there's an amazing community...

Hello, you may have noticed that in the last two PMG episodes we haven’t included a custom animation. This was for a few different reasons so I’d like to explain the thought process and the solution we are proposing.
In our Fortnite video we ended up using quite a different visual style to convey the story. There was no ‘traditional’ animation and instead, we used props and a stop motion/collage effect. With each video, we try to create a style that best suits the topic and this...

Hello patrons,
It's nearly May! Better squeeze this month's episode in while there's still time. We go into why we have been super busy this month and not just because of all the quality TV and film showdowns to catch up on. As well as meeting up with some of you guys at Rezzed and preparing for our first birthday we hope you enjoy finding out a little more about the process that went into the Molyneux marathon.
Thank you!

After putting together a collection of every game he's ever made, we asked Peter Molyneux to talk us through the highs and lows of 30+ years as a game designer.
As I mention at the start of the video, this idea took a lot of time and money for us to turn into a reality and we couldn't have done it without your support. Thank you for helping us do what we do.
We actually left most of the collection with Peter himself, as he (incredibly) didn't own most of the games he'd creat...

Hello behind-the-scenes patrons!
We're trying something a little different today. It usually takes Anni and I a little while to stop hating a new episode once we've finally managed to get it published, after hours upon hours of editing and rewriting and editing and fact-checking and editing and oh god, more editing.
But this time around, we grit our teeth and put some time aside to rewatch our piece on Fortnite's dances and ownership, to share some extra thoughts and insight into ...

As you'll probably have noticed over the last few months, Anni and I have started to lose our passion for telling cool stories about video games and how they're made. We think it's time for a change. A big one.
Today, we're so excited to reveal our plans for the next chapter in PMG.
Goodbye People Make Games. Hello People Make Gravy.

Hello everyone!
Anni and I are going to be at EGX Rezzed next week and it'd be great to see some of you there, if you'd like to say hello. If you do see either of us, please ask for a PMG pin badge! We have a bunch to give away to say thank you for being so supportive of what we do.
If you're not at the show, this is something we try to do whenever we're at games-related things, so there'll definitely be other opportunities to grab one!

Hello patrons!
So we don't usually get to do this, but today we're going to talk a little bit about the next episode we're working on for People Make Games. It's going to be pretty different to our other videos and it's also going to involve British game designer, Peter Molyneux.
In what will be the first in a new, irregular series, I'm going to be interviewing Peter in front of every game he's ever worked on. We've spent hundreds of pounds putting together a coll...

You've probably heard about the lawsuit Epic Games has been contending with over some of the dance moves they've included in Fortnite. They've recreated a whole bunch including the Floss, the Milly Rock and the Carlton dance, but the original creators of these moves feel they haven't been properly compensated as a result.
In what starts off as a bit of a daft video (hence the shorts), we take a look at how difficult it would be to copyright my own dance routine, before examining some of...

That title doesn't really have a lot to do with this month's Patreon Show, sorry, but I can't stop thinking about the wonderful acceptance speech she gave after winning herself an Oscar. Olivia Colman. Gosh. I wish I was more like Olivia Colman.

I've fancied doing an episode on Football Manager for a while now. There are loads of brilliant stories about how that game gets made and the crossover it has with football in the real world.
But you've got to wait for the right one, you know? And so when we heard about how a goalkeeper called Kai McKenzie-Lyle ended up getting called up to play for his country thanks, in part, to the game... that certainly piqued our interest.
And then, it turns out, he scored a header in the las...

Well, this has been a bit of a weird day.
As part of our last episode, we sent Queen Elizabeth II a copy of Gavin & Stacey on DVD because we thought that was a funny thing to send to an actual queen.
If you've watched the video, you'll know we did this to show that the Queen is very unlikely to receive any gifts sent via post. That's why we left the sticker on the DVD showing that it cost us a grand total of 50p and was secondhand.
So, erm. Today we received an official ...

Back when Anni and I had respectable full-time jobs at Gamer Network (the parent company of Eurogamer), we were introduced to the idea of an offsite. It’s a pretty simple thing: once a year, you and the rest of your team leave the office for a day and talk about how everything is going and what you’d like to see improved. No distractions, no emails, no twitter dot com.
I remember thinking this all sounded a bit fluffy at first, but in practice, it can be quite eye-opening to take a ...

We've changed things around with our Patreon Show (again), to make it all a little snappier to watch and allow us to have a bit more fun with the edit. January felt like the right time for a fresh start.

About a decade ago, the Queen was sent a golden Nintendo Wii as part of a PR stunt for a forgotten Wii game called Big Family Games, but she never actually received it. Why not? Where is it now?

Hello Patrons,
If you’ve been following the news in the UK over the last couple of days you’ll have seen that we needed to close the second-biggest airport in the country because somebody was flying a drone over its runway. As Gatwick officials are keen to point out on the telly, there could have actually been several different drones involved, thank you very much.
This may not sound like the kind of thing that can shut down an entire airport, but we Brit...
