Victor 3.8 - To Hunt the Hunters

Here it is! Please quench your torches :) As always, please feel free to let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Plum

It wasn’t long before Vellia started to stir. Victor hadn’t touched her or the knife still loosely clasped in her hand, though he sat and watched her closely, Lifedrinker still resting on his knees. He’d noted, with pleasure, that the axe had recovered one of her old He...

Hey folks - just a quick reminder that when I post to Patreon, my work is missing at least one and sometimes two or three more edit/revision passes. I usually don't change much, but if it seems rough at times, I'm sorry!

Morgan touched the bronze pad next to the heavy, airtight door made from the same metal and mentally selected the “Viewport” option beneath the “Open” option on the menu that appeared in his vision....

Bronwyn looked down at the nest of blankets and the furry, raggedly panting form within, and her heart tore. “Oh, Soft-fur! What’s happened to you?” She knelt and took the Urghat’s soft, hot hand, gently rubbing her thumb against the fur on the back of her knuckles and looking into her eyes. They were bleary and bloodshot, and her soft, yellow-brown irises were cloudy and obscured by pus-like fluid.

“Underclaw?” Soft-fur said in a scratchy voice, the black flesh of her lips ...

When Olivia, the two professors, and the inspector made it to the flickering blue lights at the end of the tunnel, they found a stone-walled room, bereft of inhabitants but full of objects. “Damn it!” Olivia hissed, peering into the room with its flickering sconces, overturned tables, and messy cot and not seeing any sign of her quarry. “Why would my spell lead me here? It was supposed to target his Energy!”

“And it did,” Carlu said, stepping up beside her. “Please stay in...

Olivia burst through the door, the professors and inspector on her heels, and ran down the corridor, the tails of her magenta, hunting winds just in sight as they whipped around the corner. “Can you see them?” she called over her shoulder, face flushed with excitement and the high that always accompanied the surge of Energy from casting a new spell.

“No!” Carlu called.

“The spell is designed to let you see the trail, not others,” Alyss added, breathless from trying to ...

Victor couldn’t help the grin on his face as he drove his new wagon down the southern road out of Gelica. The vidanii were fast when he gave them their head, and the wagon was smooth as butter on the dirt road despite its big, old-fashioned-looking wheels. The Energy-powered shock absorbers the salesman had raved about were de...

Olivia sat in Oylla-dak’s office next to Inspector Carlu, feeling like she was in trouble for some reason. Perhaps it was the deep scowl that Oylla wore, or perhaps it was because Carlu was fidgeting nervously and Olivia was mentally associating herself with him. She crossed her legs, folded her hands in her lap, and stared at Oylla, her eyes ablaze, daring the professor to try to blame her for an...

First go at a Fanwath Map

Hey everyone!

I've been having a little fun with Inkarnate, but I'm not very good at it! Here's my first visualization of Fanwath, at least the parts seen in my books so far. The sections that are colored in have been visited by one of the characters in the stories. The blank spaces are . . . the great unknown!

Also, this first version isn't to scale - Fainhallow and the Ridonne border should be about twice as far away from First Landing as they are depicted. Anyway, I hope this h...

Victor 3.6 - Camping in Style

Victor sat in Lam’s kitchens, Edeya, Thayla, and Captain Lam on the bench across from him, and, between huge bites of food, explained what he’d done while Spirit Walking. He mentioned meeting Oynalla, his hunt, and finished with a brief description of how he surprised Belikot and killed him before he could hardly retaliate.

“So, I don’t need to gather my old friends? We don’t need to go and confront this Belikot fellow?” Lam asked after chewing on a bite of bacon thoughtfull...

Bronwyn looked down the hill at Whitestar’s camp and breathed out a soft, “Holy shit.” The Urghat had built a log palisade around their camp, and there had to be nearly fifty tents and a dozen wooden structures within. “It’s more...

Morgan sat on Bronwyn’s Hill, a few feet from one of the stone stairs leading up to the Town Stone. His hands were out behind him, resting on the warm blue-tinted grass, and his face was toward the sun. It wasn’t hot, and there was a definite hint of coolness in the breeze that tickled his exposed skin, but the sky was cloudless, and the bright midday sun felt wonderful. His wings were partially splayed behind him, so he didn’t sit on them, and he marveled at how they soaked up the sunl...

“So, yeah, I think you and your assistants should come to check out the lab. I’m cool with you guys working there as much as you need. Seriously, man, the equipment I uncovered is way beyond anything you guys are using. It’s beyond anything at Tarn’s Crossing, even.” Morgan was leaning against Boris’s workbench. He and Issa had just had breakfast at Alec’s Tavern, and she’d gone to visit with Maria, saying she wanted to talk to her about human wedding traditions.

Adaida’s face looked so disturbed, and it was such a sudden shift in emotion that Olivia didn’t hesitate to cast Elemental Form, taking on her earth-attuned aspect. With a soft, grinding rumble, her flesh hardened, and rocks lifted from the ground, erupting out of the soil to orbit her and Adaida, who she still held close. Just as she finished the spell, though, she felt pressure on her back and heard a clanging scratch as something slid over her hardened flesh.

Adaida screamed and ...

Victor had found that when he cast Tether Spirit before sleeping, it seemed to calm his dreams quite a lot. It made him wonder just how much he was dreaming and how much his spirit was wandering and encountering strange things. After saying goodnight to Thayla and Deyni, he’d returned to his rooms, prepared to get a long night of rest after the mentally straining, e...

Okay, this time, I'm sure we're on the right chapter number. There's supposed to be a Bronwyn chapter at 49, but you folks already have it from before my reorganizing.

I'm not sure I love where I've gone with this Olivia/Adaida/Bronwyn thing. I have a loose plan in my mind, but if you all hate or enjoy it, please let me know. Also, did I go too far with the passionate descriptions? I don't want to alienate any readers that have come this far with my...

“Hello, Olivia!” Pria Peele said, striding forward and extending a hand. Olivia stood quickly and reached out a hand to take it. Pria was, as Olivia was starting to expect from successful people on Fanwath, a striking figure. She was clearly a Ghelli with an advanced race, her broad, ...

“Let’s not take a coach,” Thayla said as they passed through the gates of Lam’s estate. “I want to talk a bit while we walk.”

Ironhide gestured to the branch in the path, “Down here, through this swampy wood, we’ll reach the valley with the Hollows in a day or two. This is the part where I’d warn you about trolls setting ambushes in the trees and that we shouldn’t venture in, but I guess if Whitestar is fighting for the old home, we should be able to get into the valley at least. Hopefully, we’ll learn what’s going on before we get surrounded and eaten.”

The door closed behind Morgan with a reverberating clang, and he sidestepped, eyes on the flesh monster. It shuddered and flexed, leaning forward with its flat, expressionless face, nostrils widening as though it were taking a huge sniff. Morgan didn’t see any point in letting the monster ramp up an attack, so he fired a Vortex Lance as he circled the creature. The Energy shot rang out, echoing around the circular chamber, and the spiral trail of the projectile hung in the air. Morgan was s...

Victor 3.1 - Aftermath

Hello Patrons!

I'm changing my numbering system to something more sane. This is chapter 1 of book 3 for Victor, so 3.1. Previously, for some reason, I was using A, B, C, etc. So, the A and B chapters are book 1, and the C chapters are book 2. Now, going forward, I'll just use 3.1, 4.1, and 5.1. You get the idea.

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to change tags on Patreon. Since I combined parts 1 and 2 into the first...

When Professor Somhairle entered Oylla’s office, the first thing Olivia noticed about him was that his previously intimidating presence was much less so. He no longer seemed larger than life. Sure, he was tall, but he was so thin with such long, awkward limbs that he seemed more at odds with himself than imposing. Additionally, his otherworldly appearance was a shadow of what Olivia remembered. Perhaps it was because she’d spent so much time with Bronwyn after her racial advancement.

Morgan stood before the large, bronze-colored double doors that Tiladia had led him to. “These are the only doors I cannot pass by or see beyond,” she said, moving her crystal-shard parts in a slowly oscillating spiral.
