D.I.D update #4

Hi everyone <3 

There isn't a lot to cover on this update post. The only major updates to the game since the last developer update have been visual changes to locations, additional characters and other size artist cameos, as well as more story and interactives. 

Ive spent the majority of my time in D.I.D related content working on my drawing! Im getting there but its a lil rusty. I've got quite a good friend of mine whom I love teaching me some drawing tips n tricks as well, to hopefully get me to improve as much as possible! (That friend being the lovely swedish gremlin @Butterlewds, you can find them on twt and DA uwu) 

Not ready to share any of that progress yet but hopefully I'll make something worth posting soon~ <3

Minute Makoto

“Come on, Little Miss Prez, you gotta keep squirming so I know you’re still alive! Otherwise I might just give up and squash ya anyways!”

Makoto shuddered as she felt her body hang limply from between the balls of Kasumi’s feet. An accident in the Metaverse had left her no bigger than a mouse, and now she was at the mercy of her underclassman who she reached out to for help. She knew Moragana or Ryuji or Ann would be bad choices, but she was sure Kasumi had enough of a level head to help her regain her size.

Instead, here she was, barely able to move after having been brought home at the bottom of Kasumi’s shoes, her body soaked with sweat and covered in light bruises. Kasumi promised that it would be only for a short time, that it would be “fun,” but it had been over a week since then.

“Please…” Makoto coughed, feeling her body begin to slip off the slick surface of Kasumi’s soles, too weak to hold herself up. “Just help me get back already. Sis is probably worried sick..”

“Awh, so soon?” Kasumi’s cheery voice replied, her toes wriggling above Makoto absentmindedly. “Come on, just let me play with you a little longer, then I’ll help you, promise!”

Makoto let out a defeated sigh. It was the same answer she’d been receiving since the first day. But still, she knew there wasn’t anything she could do to fight back, especially after the last few hours of being stomped on. “Fine, just… be more gentle this time, please?”

Kasumi pretended not to hear as she slipped a dampened, used sock over Makoto, ready to begin another workout.

A pet for the Kamisato's

Initially friends, Ayaka didn't hesitate to put Lumine in her rightful place after her fateful encounter with a strange spector shrank the poor traveller down to size. Unfit for combat any longer as she were the size of a mouse, Lumine ended up as nothing more than a pet for Ayaka, her brother Ayato, and their friend Thoma. Though, it was Ayaka that truly got to spend all that time with poor little Lumine~

I was originally going to post a persona render today ala Kasumi, however its Ayaya's birthday and i always wanted to fix up this old w.i.p i had of her and post it. So why not~? As an apology for skipping Yoshizawa, I'll include a story with it written by a lovely person that I'll link to when I post it~

Next renders

I have Dangan and Persona renders coming up in the forms of Maki from V3 and Yoshizawa from Royal to wrap up that poll from a bit ago. I usually just tally things up in order of: What series you lot wanna see first, then I usually pick the characters I wanna do more from the higher voted series, but how about this time just a character poll?

Comment some characters you'd like to see for the next batch of rendery renders, and I'll pick a couple that I like the best from the groups and make a poll with them! 

Stood up.

Eula spent her night in Angel's Share in drunken annoyance. Her date with the Outrider Knight: Amber had ended in misery, the poor Lawrence Clan member stood up. Deciding not to waste her time travelling to the tavern, Eula wastes her afternoon downing pint after pint. Little to her knowledge that her date had arrived early, but she was pretty pint-sized herself.

Amber ordered a drink 20 minutes before Eula should've arrived, and even with the Favonius Knight arriving 10 later, she missed the moment where Amber had diminished from a single sip, the rest of it tipping and drenching her, thankfully shrinking her clothes and belongings right with the tiny bunny girl. Clothes or not, Amber wasn't at all amused by whatever forces were at play, but thankfully not too long later she would be visited by the now ginormous Cryo user she had destined to meet.

Eula's boots clacked against the wooden floor of the tavern's second story, almost splattering the tiny outrider beneath them in a miss of a mere few centimetres. Amber, wiping the sweat from her brow, didn't give up despite this. Running in chase after Eula.

By the time her little legs carried her to Eula's chosen table, the giant girl had already downed several drinks, too many for her to be even close to being in her right mind. After a hearty climb, Eula barely bothered to glance down at the ear-pitching shriek coming from her knee. Just barely able to register said sound as Amber's voice, Eula narrowed her eyes at the now bug-sized outrider knight.

"Yes! Eula, down here!" She had cried, barely able to catch her breath from the lengthy climb. "W-Wait... Aaah!" She screamed as Eula's large gloved hand swept down and snatched her up. Amber barely remained conscious from the g-forces of being lifted at such speed, only just stomaching her lunch. She trembled, falling to her knees at the larger knight's giant face staring down at her.

"Inexcusable." Eula slurred in her speech, scoffing at the micro girl shaking on her palm. "If this is your excuse for escaping our night together, you'll have to try better than that!"

"Wha- E-Eula? Please, I didn't do this to myself, I was-"

"Silence." Eula barked, almost clenching the hand she held Amber into a fist, just barely holding restraint. "It seems you came to your senses and attempted to come back to me. Too little, to late. Quite literally, in fact. If you wish for acceptance then so be it. But you'll have to earn such a blessing."

Eula dumped Amber haphazardly onto the table, sighing as she reached down to her aching legs. Ripping the boots inelegantly off of her feet, she tossed them aside before turning her attention back to the diminished girl.

"Eula, I-" Amber dared speak up, only for the giant knight to simply lean close. Her breath was all it took to knock Amber back onto her rear.

"Not a word, Insect," Eula demanded. "You wish for redemption? So be it, but not until after my vengeance."

Amber gulped as Eula sat back, exposing her now bare legs as she brought them up and over, slamming her feet onto the bar table right before the mite-sized pyro user.

"I hope you're not dull enough to know what it is I'm asking of you, even with a diminished brain. You are to rub my feet at once, less you chose to remain this size, of course."

Amber gulped yet again, unsure she'd be able to withstand the aroma of Eula's feet. The giant peds' mere sight causes her to feel uneasy. But it was clear that she'd have to endure this punishment, at least until morning.

Little would she know, this would be the first day of many to come where they'd meet in this way: Amber, tiny, and at Eula's giant feet.

D.I.D Update Post #3 - September 2022

Hey everyone! Emily here :3

For this update I have quite a fair few things to mention! Let's get right on into it~

Gameplay

Main changes to the gameplay this time around are just extra plugins. This includes several features such as:

Achievements! Earn achievements throughout your journey while tiny!

Side Quests: Aid and help out NPC's for extra bonus content :3 

World:

The following image was the (two main areas of the:) school you attend! 

it may look a bit weird about half way through the building, and that's cuz its actually 2 separate maps stitched together for the sake of seeing it all at once lol.

Anyway! Since the very start of D.I.D, that was what the school looked like, up until the 15th of august (The day I'm writing this lol) When I changed the design a little bit!

This is 3 separate maps stitched together, Front of the main building, back of the main building, and then the oval area, which includes the basketball court and back parking lot. I personally really like the design change but still let me know what you all think of it! I'm trying to base it on the actual campus I went to for realism sake (also by the by, it's since been updated from this screenshot. Including removal of quite a few of the posts against the road at the bottom, as well as a parking lot in the front of the school!)

I've also changed all the interiors as well. Before 1 floor would be a whole map, now each section transitions into each scene, making it look and play a lot better personally speaking.

D.I.D Update Post #2 - August 2022

Hi Hello Gentlepeople! How are you all?

This update will be just a few main points, as I'll put all the major changes into the September update as I initially wrote this one just a few days after the old one. However, I'll post the September update on the 1st! 

Art -

Anywho, let's get started with possibly the biggest change to D.I.D. The art. The whole time throughout all of D.I.D's now 9 month development, I wasn't the biggest fan of my own renders in the game. I was tempted to commission them from someone else, and almost did actually. But I always felt like doing so would make me lose my personal touch with my own creation. 

I've always wanted to do this anyway, so I thought this would be a handy solution to my distaste of my own 3D renders: Bust out my Wacom tablet and give my hand at drawing again! 

I've never really touched on it, but I broke my wrist quite badly many years ago, and it lead to me quitting drawing due to irritation that persisted well after healing. But I thought it might be worth picking it up again and starting drawing!

Especially as I believe 2D art would look much better in the game anyway. It's been a few years tho, so Im gonna have to practice my butt off to make quality pics again! 

That, and, you may have noticed from the drought of pics where there used to be several a week. I kinda lost my drive for 3D art. So who knows, maybe my drawing will give me that spark back? Either way, I'll get myself at least a few months of practice first so you don't have to see horrendous line art from my poor shakey hands.

Gameplay - Minigames

So up til recently, D.I.D has had the following:
Random encounters - While traversing the tiny landscape, you can suddenly be pulled into a turn-based battle.

QTEs - If encountered by a giant, a quick time event will play, in which you have to press your enter button at the right time. A bar pops up on screen that will move back and forth, and you have to make sure to stop it in the right place. 

The QTEs aren't very hard and even come with just an easy cancel if they're not your thing and you just wanna enjoy the scenes. However, after a while of coding I was able to make a stomping event mini game, similar to other size games out there. 

You're in a small tile version of the map, with the object chasing you following you on screen. You have to move the character around before the object crashes down on you, dealing damage. Take enough hits and you die. It's been done before in several other size games, but it's certainly more interesting than the QTEs I was making before. I won't just fully remove the QTE's though, they'll simply have a new purpose <3 

Story: Routes - 

I realised early on with the style of the story I'm writing, that a lot of the content I want to include basically can't happen at the same time. I'd have to choose one idea or the other. One story beat or the next. They couldn't BOTH occur, ya know? They'd contradict one another. How do we go from Person A finding you and protecting you to Person B doing the same without just forgetting Person A for example. 

It might be a big bite to take, but I've diced up the story into different routes! A choice-based game that branches off to different paths depending on player actions. This way I'm able to include every Idea I come up with, and even make updates post-release! Say after the game's already out, I can just re-release it with an update with another route and story! This way the player will get a lot of replayability by exploring each route there is, and playing through the story more than once. 

As of now, I'm focusing on the family route, Aka the main branching choice right now is: Who do you go to for help once shrunken? In this route, you'd find your big sister Hannah, and go down the Hannah story path. As of writing, there are 5 routes that have individual content for each of them, none of them are complete, however.

D.I.D Update Post #1

Im thinking to save with the content drought, why not have these lil dev updates to D.I.D 

So! For starters, what exactly IS D.I.D?

If you haven't seen the previous posts on it: Degree in Downsizing is a size-based roleplaying game I've been developing for almost a year now! I'm just a few months away from 1 year of development. Our protagonist, Gaybriel Luckman, is a year 12 student on the cusp of graduation (for the sake of age-appropriate characters, that is~) who's signed up to join her friend's science project. The girl's group has gotten secret special treatment by the school and even funding! So Gaybriel sadly has to be on the hush-hush about what's happening. I'm sure you can tell where this is going~ 

I'll leave the plot alone, for now, to make it more enjoyable when you guys get to actually play it! Currently, I have several areas and characters, ranging from OCs as well as cameos! 

Several other size content creator's that I'm personally friends with will have characters in the game for you to interact with, which is really exciting for me! I hope you're excited too to see them! 

Current characters designed include the staff of the school, several other students, antagonists, and Gaybriel's family at the moment, including her mother and older sister Hannah.

As of now locations in the game designed include the school, outer city, school dorms, Gaybriel's home, and even one of the teacher's apartments~ 

As of writing, there are 27 unique death scenes across 20 giants. As well as just generic stomps and crushes from no-named npcs. But there are also a few non giant related scenes, which I know aren't for everyone, but I quite fancy it so I hope you won't mind it's inclusion!

This includes stuff like big bug attacks, being flushed, an eraser falling off the table and landing on you, etc. That sorta content! 

Also, I'm unsure if I will include it, however there are sprites for pets such as snakes, dogs, cats, etc. Maybe one of them will eat you up in the end? We'll see if I decide to include that, lemme know what you think!

For now, that'll be the end of the dev update, I'll try to keep these monthly as long as I can, but we all know I'm not great at keeping a schedule, and work much better just going with the flow of when I want.
