Making it up as I went along, I exaggerated the last design into a weirder, spindlier monster with a shell not unlike a jewel spider, and I thought the little jaws under the eyes, while slightly less cute than the eyes all alone, had more of a Mortasheen feel to it.
This may be the design I go with. The thorny nodules are its magnetically controlled weapons.

For a while I've wanted to do a Mortasheen that controls spiny, metal caltrop sort of things with a magnetic shell.
I had no concept or plan and just started doodling in SAI, coming up with this turtle-like thing I wound up finding too ordinary.

This is a more abstract one; a creature that "only exists between the hands of two people holding hands." It sounded really youkai-like to me, and what I pictured right away were soft, fragile looking little fleshy things that might only manifest for a brief while.
