So I found this painting app called heavy paint: https://www.heavypaint.app/ Last ones are done with it, basically it forces you to not use layers, minimize the undos, keep the pressure sensitivity off and really think your shapes with anticipation, So imho it is a nice way to learn painting.

EDIT: General fixes
I hope you like this one! I had a lot of trouble trying to balance the saturation of the skin and its highlights (basically it looked extremely different across several screens) but I think after several adjustments this looks ok

Some tips/directions:
I would recommend keeping your canvas at less than 400x400 for better results.
Use the pencil brush for sketching stages, fine details and refinements
Use the brush one to block out larger areas
The advantage of pixel art is that it is like vector graphics: You can expand it as much as you want once finished without introducing artifacts as long as you use the Nearest Neighbor Algorithm to increase the resolution.

EDIT: Just added 4 palettes to each version: One that looks like the original game boy, purple, monochrome and a low saturated one
I hope you like this one. It became very hard to handle towards the end (each moving part on its own layer multiplied by the 8 frames of animation multiplied by the 3 versions) but I feel it was worth it. Imho it conveys illustration level expression while keeping the pixel art aesthetic
