Hate it & Love it

If I like my body now that I am in a Wheelchair?

No and Yes. Mostly no. Just like the relationship with my wheelchair, I love and hate it. Before I got a Spinal Cord injury I was fit and healthy. As a tall woman my legs were my best features. But now.. I don't mind the first view of my legs in a wheelchair but the muscles are gone and getting less. The skinny not functioning legs that I drag along are...

Switch Places

Living with a paralysis is hard. To drag your legs out of bed in the morning, trying not to lose balance during every movement in the wheelchair and during doing transfers, it's a daily struggle.

Brush my feet

When you are paralyzed you hope everyday that a somehow you feel a little bit more than you do now. I remember asking a friend to tickle my feet when I was in the hospital bed, to see if they would react. But nothing happened. Now and then I still try because I have hope. Just to see if something happens.

Winter is Coming

I don't like the Winter because I can't walk. And therefor it's pretty hard to stay warm. I don't know what to wear. I tried wearing socks in heels but it's not enough. If I do this I need to massage my feet every hour to keep the feet from turning purple.

Wearing boots is not really lady like but I might have to try it this year as I don't want to stay inside the house during these cold months.

Barefoot

Rolling around barefoot is not very smart sometimes. It's always better to cover the feet to keep them warm and safe.

The last thing I want is to hit them or make get a scratch. A few weeks ago it went wrong and I didn't know because I don't feel anything. Two of my toes were bleeding so I had to cover them up and since then I only I'm barefoot for a photo.
