For people who have read the full alpha and needs to vent.
It came to my attention that people might want to vent about what they read without exploding, so here is the smallest discord for your screaming needs. It will get expanded on as we go, but I just wanted to get something off the ground right away.
Edit: The open invitation is currently on hold, will be back in a while. For now, message me personally for an invite.

Since this is all very new to me and people are actually signing up, I have a few things I want to ask people if they are interested in. This is open to everyone, not just patrons, so feel free to weigh in if you are considering becoming one but there might be other things you would like.
(Clarification: Choice 1 is not live. Choice 2 is live.)
Would you like...

For people who hung around on the discord while I still frequented the place, this is familiar to you. You see, on people's birthdays, if I happened to be online, I would answer truthfully one of their spoiler questions.
And I'm not talking minor spoilers here, I am talking major mysteries that you won't get the answers to until book three at the earliest. I am not going to give you a poll here yet.
No, what I want here are questions and suggestions. Ask what secrets you would mos...

So, still not sure exactly how I will set up a Q &A session on Patreon. The video livechat feels like a nightmare for someone like me that freezes up even in voicechat.
So far I am not sure if I want to run it through a discord, or some other way. We'll see. Rome wasn't built in a day. If anyone knows how it usually is done, feel free to let me know.
Maybe I should just make a Q&A post and you can ask your questions as comments, and I'll take some time later to answer them...

So here it is. Click the Dashingdon link above for access.
I am currently doing a major overhaul, and have finished and posted that up to chapter 17. The game is finished, but chapter 18 - 22 is in a much rougher state. No, no proofreading yet. Sorry about that.
The current length is around 1 200 000 words including code. It's a big one. Average playthroughs varies a lot, maybe 75 000 to 85 000 words.
PLEASE DON'T DISCUSS WHAT HAPPENS IN THE GA...

Well, we need to start somewhere, so might as well start here. I have been planning on doing a series of longer, more in-depth posts about the characters and the world of Fallen Hero. But knowing where to start is always an issue. That's where you come in. I've added a few not too spoilery options to choose between, but feel free to make suggestions in the comments for future polls. (Will I have patreons by then? Are you able to comment? Who knows, this is new).
I will be leaving this a...

Since I am currently home sick and procrastinating, let’s talk about one of the hardest things in writing any lengthy project, and one which tends to take people by surprise.
Actually finishing it.
You see, it’s not like a book or a game is done once you write that last chapter, and tack on the final epilogue. Oh no, now you have to edit and polish the beast. All those times you sat around thinking ‘Oh I’ll fix this later’, or 'this needs a rewrite eve...

Today we are going to talk about endings.
No, not endings as in how you actually construct a story and make it end in a satisfactory way, there’s enough advice for that online and at least half of it is bullshit. No, what we are going to talk about is how getting to the end of a story can make you feel.
As always, these are just my own personal musings, but there are not that many people out there talking about how working thr...

The first in my series of slightly rewritten posts on other forums. This one came about after I was asked for advice on how to do world building.
So here are my quick thoughts on the matter:
You don’t need half as much world building as you think you do and if you, like me, are a researcher, it can paralyze you.
You only need enough world to surround the story and make it internally cohesive, but on the other hand, the world can als...

The cover for Fallen Hero: Retribution is finalized, and I love what Polterink did with it. My style wish essentially boiled down to 'toxic crayons' and I think she really pulled it off.
Looking at the image now in mid September, with the pictures coming from the west coast, makes me feel slightly queasy. I always pictured the ashy Los Diablos skies that way, but seeing it in real life was something I had hoped to av...
