Sketch page: deep woods radjurn

So this project I'm doing is set in the deep woods of Stag's Run, where they kinda have their own ecosystem thanks to the arcane nature of ancient trees. I knew I wanted to make the clothing styles different from the 'outside world' to reflect that, but damn if I'm not having a dickens of a time landing on a specific set of parameters.

I wound up on Pinterest, as one does, and went down some rabbit holes and drew some radjurn wearing outfits I found. Most of these sketches are reference...

Second character in this project I started working on in November. Hock also went through quite a bit of troubleshooting, but I'm fairly happy with how the design looks now.

I'll try and give some actual details about these characters soon; right now everything about the story is so nebulous that I'm gonna feel silly if I tell y'all one thing and then have to change it later :'(

I've been thinking about a new project for the last few months, and it's finally developed enough that I can start sharing some preproduction junk.

First up is Eryx, our protagonist. These sketches represent like a month and a half of iterating to try and get his stupid face to look right. I'm hoping his design is distinct enough from my other deer-type OCs, but if not... meh. At least the antlers are different :P

Commission! The character had a super chibi short-snouted face which was challenging to reconcile with my usual method for drawing deer, but the client was happy with it and I think it turned out cute.

Believe it or not I actually did finish that challenge back in April, the pages have just been languishing in my closet unscanned for months and if that ain't indicative of my organizational skills (or lack thereof) I don't know what is.

The last 30 pages were mostly uninteresting but I did manage to sketch some dogs, a bit of Valoris-flavored character design, and... other?
