Squash and gourds grew particularly well in Stag's Run, and dauric artisans were experts in utilizing every shape and size of them.

Day 22 -- Alchemy

In the Fallows, legend has it that the first cake was invented by an alchemist after substituting one too many potion reagents.

Day 21 -- Patchwork

A witch's work didn't always directly involve the arcane arts; when it came to a precision task as important as mending a familiar's best friend, sometimes it was better to work the old fashioned way.

Day 20 -- Luminous

Sunlight never reached the floor of the deepest woods, but plenty of other light sources could be found if one knew where to look for them.

Day 19 -- Fable

Out of the many fairy stories told to the children of the Fallows, "The Cobbler Who Was So Bad at His Job All the Shoes Came to Life and Kicked Him to Death" felt the most like the manifestation of some personal grudge held by the author.

Day 18 -- Toad

Heinrich wasn't the quickest study as the potter's apprentice, but at least someone appreciated his attempts.

Day 17 -- Woolen

"Looks like I knit a little too much..."

"It's perfect."

Day 16 -- Antlers

Unlike that of their un-antlered cousins, the breeding season for jackalopes happened in the autumn.

There was no better reward for a forage hog in training than a foraged nut or mushroom.

Day 14 -- Possessed

The creatures -- perhaps 'infection' is more accurate -- known as the scurs were thought to be the most unpredictable threat in the deep woods, having no set physical form and often occupying recently vacated vessels.

Day 13 -- Witchery

Where was that address again...? Cell reception was always weirdly spotty when the broom was active. Still, as side hustles go, a witch could do worse than the odd grocery shopping gig. Like that dog walking thing. Never again.

FINALLY AN INDY PAGE. Since it's been a minute: Indy (and that fella he's talking to) belongs to Maui!

Day 12 -- Moth

The common sulphur birdwing moth had meat that roasted up so similar to poultry it was colloquially referred to as 'deep woods chicken,' slightly gamier than domestic bugs but well worth the hunting trip if you were a good shot (or possessed of your own wings).

Day 11 -- Charcoal

"Hey! I said no peeking! Go on, turn around. You'll see it when it's done and not a second sooner."

Day 10 -- Omen

"A shoe-headed chicken! That means a corn blight is imminent. Or was it an early frost...? I must consult the almanac! Hurry, Otto!"

"Okay, Grandma..."

Day 9 -- Hollow

Some trees in the deep woods produced seeds and nuts with myriad purposes; some just made seed pods that were only useful for making a loud noise and startling your snotnosed little sibling.

Day 8 -- Carnivorous

At the fringes of wild space, the shadowy cult of canine guns for hire were rumored to be such effective warriors because they subsisted off of the meat of their enemies and drank blood instead of water.

Day 7 -- Mask

No harvest celebration was complete without the ubiquitous costume ball, and the deep woods were no exception.

Day 6 -- Plague

Though rarely seen in Stag's Run in the modern day, the plague is as incurable and deadly as it was in antiquity, always marked by aggression, self mutilation, and violent fits.

Day 5 -- Eclipse

Legend has it that it's only during a solar eclipse that the ravens truly awaken.

Even the outskirts of the deep woods were known to disorient travelers attempting to navigate by landmarks. But for the seasoned traveler, a clear night sky was better than any map.

Day 3 -- Bracing Wind

Leaf racing is a favorite autumn sport for fae creatures (the yellow ones are the fastest).

Day 2 -- Boughs

The hanging of dried branches above the door of a newlywed couple's first home was an autumnal tradition in radjurn culture, meant to invite good fortune... and, in practice, maybe a minor injury or two.

Day 1 -- Feathered

Even in the depths of the deep woods, there was no more reliable courier than an owl with a skilled handler.
