i try to keep around 4 images per day of updates.  but some days, due to family life or just "one of those days"  i can only work on one thing in a day.  sometimes i get so into one image i can work on it the whole day.

so as my supporters, what do you prefer?  

always strive for 4 posts per day?

or less then 4 is ok if it turns out that way

i have not started the cricket girl (Liu) because she has such a stark green that im not using in the 6 other images and i feel it will mess with my head....of course tomorrow i might just get over myself and work on her anyway 

bunny color studies

i have been wanting to color the bunny sketches i made.  now that i am comfortable with color i want to first try more muted palettes, then go wild with some saturated complimentary studies like i did with the raptor rider. but this time i will know what i am doing

bouncing between color refinement and line refinement.  i am tempted to start the traditional painting at this sketchy stage BUT i feel i really should be more thorough with my line work.  my initial idea was to outline the shapes of color areas so when i print them out and start painting it will almost be like a "paint by numbers" 

then i can ease my way into more freeform painting

i need to balance my work time better so i can have 4 images worked at once....but the gouache is much better to work with now that i have a stay wet pallet

i did a quick lay down of color with clip studio.  this is just a reference before i print out the lines and do my copic/watercolor underpaintings

i must admit i like working at this size.  its easier to lay out stuff without being overwhelmed by all the tiny details i can put in

acryla gouache Mar WIP

not quite done but getting there.  my traditional experiments have become a lot easier when i found out about this thing called a "stay wet palette".  its just a wet paper towel under a sheet of baking parchment but it miraculously keeps the paint as fresh and creamy as when you first squeeze it out of the tube for HOURS longer then normal.  and thus when i paint the pigment goes down buttery smooth where it used to be a bit "grainy" no matter what i did

grabbed 4 unfinished sketches and finished the line work on them so i can practice more traditional mediums and keep everyone happy
