yup that is working for me.  took all day to finish the inking all them mechanical bits, so next time i will just do what i did with the last space folio and render out a freestyle layer.  that will take care of 70% of the back ground lines (though it does not do well with organic shapes)

this one needs just a bit more shadow an highlights and it will be done (will add in the paper texture at the very end )

Bald Space Monkey: the Asylum contract

Arthur Risker and Jenny Bounnce are in a bit of a legal bind.  Due to her planet not yet inducted or even truly aware of te greater galactic federation she is not with Risker "legaly".  She must file for "asylum" or else she will be sent back to her planet and most likely incarcerated for the rest of her life, or worse.

fortunately both Risker and Bounnce have a mysterious benefactor who smoothed things over and got her case approved.  there was a caveat.  Risker mus...

i like the lowest panel so far.  however i want to try this again but just ink the lines traditionally 

or maybe really polish up the digital line work and then print it out so i can make it pencils again 

just some different ideas to really lock down the process i want

well, some interesting discoveries from last night.  with my new printer came a big 11/17 scanner that i thought would be just meh.  turns out when i use it with the VueScan program it works better then my epson perfection

nope this first attempt did not work.  i am way too rusty with pencils.  the idea is to have really nice pencil rendering then use flat digital colors on the final product.

this morning was taken up with fixing Lillian's UV maps so they will take textures and Normal maps.  then i started adding in her skin details.  this will take a while

also i printed out the cover of Triceragation and worked on it with pencils to see if i liked the results.  right now i am trying to get a good scan of it, but since it is so large i am having trouble lining things up after multi scans

ok the flats are fixed now this folio will be more "comic shade" then the normal painted over 3d i tend to have.  i initially tried this way because i thought it would be faster and more vibrant....nope 

so now it's just about making it look good

i thought about turning these into traditional illustrations, but i had so much put into them that  i figured it'd be too much re-working.  so i am cleaning up the base colors before putting the shadows and highlights back in

this will be an interesting experiment.  i have a few more experimental ideas that i will try out on some of my line works i never colored.  such as coloring with copics right after i print then add in more details with pencil and colored pencil.  i will have to do the pencils after the copics because if you try to put an alcohol marker over graphite it has a good chance of destroying the marker

did this in the morning. going to ink the whole folio then start coloring it with copics water color and gouache 

philophana chapter 3 update

as i was finishing off the initial sketch of the last page of chapter 3 i thought to myself "hey shouldn't there be more images?"  so i went back are re read the chapter descriptions more carefully and low and behold...i missed 2 images and some key costume descriptions for the dream sequences .

now all i need is the a okay from Simone and i can start making the lines "sexy"
