Hmm, what are these four "B"s, I wonder?

Another Charming Comic: The Avant-Guards

The Avant-Guards is a three-volume comic about a womens' (and non-binary persons') basketball team at an art college. It's a lightly soapy ensemble rom-com sort of thing about the lives of the players, very positive, charming, and queer.

There's a lot of body type diversity across the cast. All of them are pretty fit, but this comic does something I almost never see and gives most of t...

Taking a break from Encounter to work on something a little less experimental that's more in my comfort zone: making fun of the 1950s!  Honestly pretty happy with how this one is shaping up, I think it's gonna be good.

Hey, I'm back (and moved!)  May still be a lighter month as I get into the new routine, but I've got some stories and things in the works.

Billing pause for August

Hey, all.  Aside from all the other stuff going on, this last week I was flattened by an illness that's left me unable to get any work done at all. I've decided to take a break for the rest of the month to focus first on getting better and then on the move.  I've paused billing for August, which means if you're pledging monthly you won't get charged at the usual time at the beginning of next month, and collection should resume as normal at the beginning of September. If you're an an...

Beer!

I did this picture of a beer-enjoying gal because I am moving soon to beautiful Milwaukee, the home of beer!  I'm not sure I completely nailed this one but eh, I am very tired. I likely won't be getting as much done until after I've moved and settled in August - it has a way of sucking in all your attention.

The Ballad of Gluttony - Gluttony

And so Gluttony brought all six others to heel

With the power of trickery, traps, and a meal

Each sin has submitted and bended the knee -

A body part that they now struggle to see.

Gluttony now is the Queen of the Below

And as she grows in power, the rest of her grows;

Now her sphere of influence is clear out to here

And it’s influenced her into more of a sphere.

Her ass fills every circle from chasm to ledge,

And h...

The shapeshifter of the woods takes on a new form.

New stuff may be a bit light this summer; it's the busy season at work, plus I've got a few other things going on life-wise.  I'll try to at least add in some poems, which are fast and fun and seem to be popular!

The Ballad of Gluttony - Pride

One demon stood greater than all of the rest,

For PRIDE was the best of the best of the best.

She’d won ever award – the Oscar, the Grammy,

the 2013 crown for Miss Teen Miami.

Plus a Pulitzer, Nobel, Newbury, and Tony.

But Gluttony whispered, “Oh, Pride, you big phony!

There’s one record you still have no record of beating,

and that’s any one for competitive eating!”

Pride could not let this blot on her image re...

Weird stuff going on.

By the way, that pregnancy anthology I contributed to is out now, for those of you who are into that stuff!  This was done by a very good friend of mine and I was happy to be able to be a part of it!

BBWs in Euro-Comics

This has been a big month for surprise fat representation in comics.

Freaks Squeele: Kim Trauma (which actually came out last fall) is a spin-off of Florent Madoux's Freaks Squeele series about aspiring superheroes in college, focusing on a woman who treats their unique medical needs. She uses her own power of magic tattoos, which draws on her stored energy and burns up a lot of body mass, so she has to put on weight before a procedure (fortunately, she can do it...

I'm really enjoying the different brushes used in Krita.  I was so used to my creaky old version of Photoshop that I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to switch to something new, but I'm actually liking this a lot better now that I'm used to it.

An Unsolicited Endorsement

Thirsty Mermaids by Kat Leyh is a super queer, super body-positive and beautifully drawn comic about three mermaids who turn themselves into humans while drunk and can't figure out how to change back. It's a complete delight.  Also, it has a big fat sexy mermaid in it.  (Take a look at the cover and you'll see why it caught my eye...)  I recommend the hell out of it. Go bug your local library system about it if they don't have it already.

Going to take a...

Cola Girl

A few side projects came up this week and prevented me from doing much else, but I wanted to put up a little something, at least - so here's a quick sketch of a girl who loves chugging cola.  And she has an afro, because big poofy afros are one of the most lovely kinds of hair.

Be Fruitful and Multiply

(See attached PDF)

I've been reading a lot of public-domain science fiction magazine stories via Project Gutenberg and thought I'd try my hand at writing one in that style. Two tourists land on Venus - what will they find?

I love the whiz-bang enthusiasm and retro flavor of those old stories, but they had some notable flaws, notably a striking lack of female characters and some pretty stereotypical and sidelined depictions of them when they do appear.  Two women leads, like I...

Sketch

I'm almost all self-taught drawing-wise, so I'm decent at a lot of stuff on the surface but my fundamentals are pretty abysmal; I did some sketches following an online tutorial, trying to get a little better at basic figure drawing.  This one came out okay!
