Many forget light is both a particle and wave. It has a duality. Life uses that advantage. Light from the sun acts more like a wave than a particle and that is how we use it as ainformation. Light created by photosynthesis (food) or by cells (bio-photons) acts more like a particle. No one should forget both pathways LIGHT IS INFORMATION. How it is used as information is what varies in Nature. I covered that 2023-12-14 15:53:46 +0000 UTC View Post
Man is way behind Mother Nature. Wolfgang Pauli realized that the free electrons in metal must obey the Fermi–Dirac statistics. Using this idea, he developed the theory of paramagnetism in 1926. Shortly after, Sommerfeld incorporated the Fermi–Dirac statistics into the free electron model and made it better to explain the heat capacity. Two years later, Bloch used quantum mechanics to describe the motion of an electron in a periodic lattice.

Tumor immunity represents a new avenue for cancer therapy. Immune checkpoint inhibitors have successfully improved outcomes in several tumor types. In addition, currently, immune cell-based therapy is also attracting significant attention. However, the clinical efficacy of these treatments requires further improvement. The mechanisms through which cancer cells escape the immune response must be identified and clarified. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) play a central role in multiple aspects of malig...

I dislike Thanksgiving but I have a tradition where I retell my family the story of how the CIA used the artworld to change public opinion and this program was used to help assinate a president when it became clear that human perception could be harnessed by propaganda. Part of this story was retold to you in the podcast above. Here is the second part of the story for you to digest once you finish your Thanksgiving dinner today. I am warning you it may give some of you indig...

Most people know about single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) or single amino acid polymorphisms (SAPs), but few people ever get told how they operate in health and disease.
N-acyl amino acids in humans can involve acetylation, and C-terminus amino acids can be involved with methylation. Both are controlled by light. This post describes how the process happens.
Modifying the C-terminus of proteins is essential in understanding what light is doing biophysi...

Centralized researchers say the processes behind the solar tracking are an unexpected mystery. Maybe if the knew the evolutionary history of flowers better they'd know about the history of the non visual photo receptive system?
Phototropins of plants and melanopsin or mammals have a lot in common. They are the blue light non visual photopigments. Auxin of plants and encephalopsin have a lot in common. I wrote about auxins in the Ubiquitination ...
I was just out in Malibu with Mr. Rubin and one of his friends, interviewing me for a movie we are making about me and Quantum Biology. We sat down two days ago and did a three-hour podcast that will be part 3 of the Tetragrammaton series. The goal of part 3 is to go deeper into the implications of what was said between Rick, Huberman, and me. Part 3 was done without Andrew. Bill Gifford sat in his place, and he is an award-winning health journalist.

Smedley Butler was the most decorated Marine in US history, Yet he wasn't proud of his work. He called himself a "gangster for capitalism." After retiring in 1931, he toured the country, giving an explosive speech:
War Is A Racket!
What defines a racket? An enterprise that is "conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many." War perfectly fits this definition: Millions are maimed and killed so a...

Post translational time stamping is present from cyanobacteria to mammals. All organisms have evolved timing mechanisms to adapt to environmental changes in order to optimize survival and improve fitness for an environment. To anticipate these regular daily electromagnetic cycles of light and dark, many organisms manifest near 24-h cell-autonomous oscillations that are sustained by transcription–translation-based or post-transcriptional negative feedback loops that control ...

POMC arose over 500 million years ago by an insertion of the melanocortin sequences into a prepro-endorphin gene. Evidence for this comes from structural identities with other opioid precursors in both the NH2- and COOH-terminal regions of POMC.
The phenomena of pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) as a hormone precursor emerged gradually over time as observations slowly filled in pieces of the puzzle. Long before the concept of hormone precursors was realized, the bronzed skin color described b...

The auditory nerve transmits auditory information up a series of nuclei to the cortex, where perception occurs. These nuclei include 1) cochlear nucleus, 2) superior olivary nuclei, 3) lateral lemniscus, 4) inferior colliculus, and 5) medial geniculate nuclei.
Melanin pigment is normally present in the outermost layer of the eye's retina, the inner ear adjacent to capillaries in stria vascularis near hair cells and vestibular organs. In the skin, it is in the basal laye...

Supraventricular tachycardia SVT is a broad term for a number of tachyarrhythmias that originate above the ventricular electrical conduction system (Purkinje fibers). read the link below to learn about SVT. This rhythm is usually the first symptom in melanin degradation of the cardiac plexus. I showed you this picture in Quantum Engineering #47 for the first time.

Melanocytes are normal, neural crest-derived cells present in the human leptomeninges (pia and arachnoid membranes) primarily at the base of the brain, the posterior fossa, and around the upper cervical spinal cord. They are very close to cells with POMC expressed to some degree.

Energy is a physical concept but is not really explained well in biology. In physics, it is well explained by Noether’s theorem. That equation says that any symmetry, either local or global, implies there must be a conservation of some physical quality in reference to energy transformation to keep the system functioning.
Mammals break time symmetry by conserving POMC biology. ...
The neural retina is considered to be an extension of the central nervous system and has several features in common with the brain. The neural retina is similarly sensitive to degenerative processes, in which the closely adjacent retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) which contains melanin plays a key role in normal and abnormal physiology. There are various forms of degenerative processes, including one of the leading causes of visual impairment, age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The molecu...

1. Time, how do you spend it?
People at war with their species' directives from Nature will always cause collateral damage in the lives of those around them. It begs the question, how smart are we really today? Humans now write books to collect their ideas. Books are really harbors for these beliefs. This book below might hint that our current beliefs around technology might be the death of human intelligence. Humans are now creating books with the idea that we can "do better" than natu...

Linear optics includes most applications of lenses, mirrors, waveplates, diffraction gratings, and many other common optical components and systems. Cells use some of these things but were limited for a long time because the two domains of life had no way to use this sunlight maximally because primative cells were destroyed by UV light. This kept life simple. The development of photosynthetic crystals 30 million years before the Cambrian explosion changed the possibilities o...

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a well-recognized microvascular complication of diabetes. What is not well recognized is that light stress release of ACTH from POMc and CLIP is the main driver of the disease. Blue light is a nnEMF that causes diabetic neuropathy. It causes many other diseases as well.
Growing evidence suggests that, in addition to retinal vascular damage, there is significant damage to retinal neural tissue in diabetic retinopathy. This is especially tr...
MORE ON THE ipRGCs of the retina and SCN. Someday if someone funds my research, autism might be the first topic I'd suggest we study. Why?
Melanin seems to be important for migration of neurons in all mammals. I told you that in the recent blogs around melanin and metastasis. And this idea clued me long ago in that I might be able to explain autism because of my unique perspective on melanocyte migration and how it links to melanopsin regeneration.

The movement to humans did not start off with a bang.
The first primate-like mammals, or proto-primates, evolved in the early Paleocene Epoch (65.5-55.8 million years ago) at the beginning of the Cenozoic Era. They were roughly similar to squirrels and tree shrews in size and appearance. The existing, very fragmentary fossil evidence (from Asia, Europe, North Africa, and especially Western North America) suggests that they were adapted...
Part one ended by asking you a provocative question............
Part two begins with the answer. All life is built around atoms. Atoms were unknown at the time of Darwin. Not even the math equations of Maxwell on light were complete. But Faraday's work was done in Darwin's time. It seems Darwin never thought about the sun on his trip in the Beagle on his way to Equador's Galapagos Islands.
