Insomnia strikes!
I'm putting dungeons together over the next 24-hours while I try to get my sleep schedule back on track following my sickness last week.
(I've been up 'til 5am and sleeping 'til 11-12 every day. Terrible, I know.)
I'm building up a fire giant lair (pictured above) I'm tentatively calling The Fire Dungeon.
I need some one-word prompts to fill it!
Usualy rules apply: one word per patron, keep it clean, no proper nouns.

We managed to get this one out within two weeks of the last release! As it stands, this is also officially the "birthday" issue, as BroadSword Monthly celebrates its first birthday. Happy birthday, buddy!
Enjoy all!
This edition of BroadSword is more than a year old and has been archived. It is available for purchase in Print and PDF through the DMDave.com store.
“A monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopuslike head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigous claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind. This thing ... was of a somewhat bloated corpulence .... it lumbered slobberingly into sight and gropingly squeezed its gelatinous green immensity through the black doorway ... a mountain walked or stumbled.”

Known by many as "planar lizardfolk", scrugmiek are dangerous reptilian humanoids that roam the Cosmos and the chaotic planes. They hold a reputation for being raiders, plunderers, slavers, and mercenaries.
Superficially, scrugmieks resemble lizardfolk. However, these creatures are considerably larger, tougher, and more aggressive than their scaled cousins.

Duergar at the Snowed Inn is a Fifth Edition adventure for four to five characters of 1st to 3rd level, and is optimized for a party of four characters with an average party level (APL) of 2. Its formal location is left intentionally blank so you can e...

The Neverending Dungeon is a Fifth Edition adventure series built for parties of any size and any level. Each edition of this series adds a module dungeon tile to what came before. These tiles fit together any way you like and are VTT-compatible. Because of the “endless” nature of the series, you can run games that start at 1st-level that complete at 20th and beyond, or even start a campaign with higher level players.

This is a little different than my typical call for one-word prompts. This time, I want each of you to give me a suggestion for something that happens in a room of a new dungeon I'm building. It can be anything you want—I'll write the mechanics for it and make sure it's balanced, you just give me what you want to happen.
Here are the rules.
Please follow them as they're here to make this as simple as possible:
1) Each suggestion should be no lo...

Far below the sky-lubbin' surface sits a sea unseen by the sun! Upon these treacherous waters, pirates set sail on sea rovers built for the life below. They face-off against the dreadful duergar, diabolical drow, conquest-happy krakens, and sweet-sounding sirens.
Savvy? Then drop anchor, and git yer eyes on this smartly!

The rules presented in this document offer new ways for characters in Fifth Edition campaigns to learn and cast spells, regardless of their level and class features. Note that the spellcasting rules variant described here best suits low-magic settings where casters are exceedingly rare, and magic has an aura of mystery and strangeness over it. Even a mundane spell such as thaumaturgy or mage hand may cause great fear to the uninitiated.

Tomorrow and Friday, I've got some catching up to do. I owe no less than three player options this month for the cosmic horror theme. As such, I thought I'd turn it over to you guys, gals, and non-binary pals to let me know what you think I should make.
* I've omitted druids since they already got one this month.

Hey all!
I thought I might share this with you to show you my process.
When I go to create a new adventure, I almost always start with a map. Sometimes even before I have an idea about what I want to put into the map.
Once I have a few preliminary ideas, I put together a Google Sheet with numbers for all the locations. Next, using the Chamber Contents table on Page 296 of the DMG, I randomly generate the contents for all of the areas.
From there, I take your one-...

Grotto of Nightmares is a Fifth Edition adventure for four characters with an average party level (APL) of 20. The adventure takes place at the edge of an enchanted forest where strange, ancient eldritch dangers lurk, then moves to the Deep Ethereal Plane. In the Legends of Omeria campaign setting, you can place this adventure somewhere in the Wallingmiotta and then in The Dream. Fair warning: the adventure is built to be deadly, even for high-level characters.

The horror stuff is going well this month! So I'll be excited to see what we're able to do for October when we start up our next theme.
Only problem is... I don't have one in mind yet!
Below are some themes that myself and our designer Darryl Jones came up with. Vote on the one that you like the best. Voting ends later this evening.
Looking forward to it!

First, we're going to pick a monster type. Later today, we'll narrow it down to an individual monster. Let's go!
