I'm extremely proud to bring you all BRUNSWICK - A Pokemon Nuzlocke Story. It's based on a real Nuzlocke game that I played in Heart Gold several years ago.

I wanted to let you all know that I've been working hard on a new comic story that is nearing completion - I believe it'll be done in a couple days, a week at the absolute most. It's not related to The Vapors. Actually, it's about Pokemon. Specifically, it's the story of a Pokemon I once owned in HeartGold, Brunswick the Mamoswine. I call it BRUNSWICK: A Nuzlocke Story.
I'll be posting it here for $5+ Patrons first, then putting it on saintcomix.com later. Get ready.

I've also reached out to another artist and we've agreed to do a bit of an art trade; basically, she'll be illustrating a one-page Vapors minicomic written by me, and I'll be doing the same for her. Her pen name is Phenylketonurics and you can see her work here...

So, I see a couple new patrons have arrived recently! That really fills me with DETERMINATION (hoh hoh, video game references). Thank you to all of you, new and old.
Now seems like a good time to post another preview page for Chapter 2. I haven't decided if I'll be adding some shading to this page, or if I like it as-is.
As for the rest, I'm still on track to get it finished before the end of January.

Hey everyone! Here's the first Patrons-only preview page for Chapter 2. I had hoped initially to get chapter 2 out this month, but seeing as there's only 4 days left till New Years, that ain't happening. Other work + Holiday stuff = major delays, predictably. I'm extremely confident that I can get it finished sometime in January, though.
Now, normally I would say that if you'd like to see fewer delays like this in the future, you should become a patron... but if you're reading this y...

Shortly before starting to draw the actual comic, I got some Copic markers and went to town. That one of Magda on the couch is one of my favorites.
I tried, briefly, to ink the comic traditionally, because that's how cool cartoonists do it. I'm not very well-practiced with traditional ink and pen though, so it didn't work out. The process I eventually settled on was penciling on paper, scanning, and inking digitally in Manga Studio.
First three are the girl from the gaming club.... I like her style.
The girl in the hat is another character who may or may not appear in another chapter.
The towers... well, there was a point at which the story was going to be set in a big futuristic steampunk clockwork university, instead of just a regular one. I abandoned that idea because 1. I thought it'd be hard to draw, and 2. I wasn't as interested in exploring that setting concept as I was in exploring characters.

More Magda and Poobahs. With the poobahs, I considered making them more bizarre, like by giving them creepy eyes or teeth, or making them weirdly phallic. In the end I decided it'd fit the tone better to keep their design a little more subdued.
Those Magda faces at the bottom are terrible and it hurts me to look at them. But, there you go.

Sketches of Magda and the Poobahs. Unlike Vincent I had a pretty easy time visualizing her right off the bat. Her eyes and the shape of her glasses were the only details that underwent significant change.

As you can see, I'm terrible at drawing. Anyway, I knew exactly what Vincent would wear right from the start, so it was just a matter of shaping the pieces together until they were juuuuuuust right. Actually that Vincent in pen at the bottom is pretty sweet. I like his expression and his bendy legs.

I knew what Vincent would be like as a character, but spent a long time agonizing over what fort of face to give him to reflect it. He existed as a concept well before I ever actually thought about what he'd look like. Some of those unused eyes are pretty sweet, though.

I spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about what the characters looked like before I finally started drawing The Vapors. This was the first page of concept sketches I ever did.
