ByoB comic nearing completion, cover art and new pages!

We're finally near the end! Of the year! And also this comic!

After a year of working on this we can start posting it on FA starting in December. I had a choice of doing this cover art or the second page for last months comic and I took the option that I could do in two days. Sorry everyone! End of the year gets harder to manage with annual deadlines like this, and I think there was a month where I didn't work on any pages for this and that's probably what screwed up my schedule.

Missing

And... one day late. At least we're back to just the two of them again, four characters in one panel is more hellish than I thought it would be. I cheated a bit with the last one but things are back to normal again.

Turns out bottomless bags are common enough, judging by some of the stuff in there. Or it could be a metaphor of her own deep personality. On top it's all sex but there's probably something else underneath all that.

Gotta Fly

Whew, made it in time! I'll have to see if you would prefer a pinup and a comic page each month or if you'd rather have the two comic pages unless I fall behind and have to do a pinup at the end instead.

This one I had a lot of difficulty with the dialogue until the last minute, the general idea of these two running off was set from the start, but the lines had a bit more freedom.

AI-manda

Okay, this one has been a long time coming, but first, my reason for finishing it.

This month I fell a little behind, and am pretty sure there's not enough time to finish more than one comic page. This is a problem.

To make up for losing a page, I started working on this in my off hours and then spent a large-ish workday on the color and shading side once the lineart was down.

Break's Conclusion

Just in the nick of time! Last month I was behind a bit and had to catch up, but it's here, the first second-comic-in-one-month. Feels good.

Because of the pacing I changed up a little bit of the coloring, at least I think so. Could just be me but it looks like I'm making these darker again, at least panel 2 seems to be.

At least panels 3 and 4 came out perfect. I'm a little unsure of the dialogue though.

Bird Brains

Cockatiel and Bluejay make their first appearance, and will probably be semi-regular characters in this little adventure. Whoever they may be, Aqua just wants to be entertained with a musical number and maybe some dancing if it isn't too much to ask.

Testing Required

Now it's getting to the story, been working on and improving the script for ages now. The first script had everything planned up to the tree and was going to have her immediately go on the adventure. Then I asked myself "If the real story starts on the adventure, then why didn't I start telling it at that point instead?"

The reason was to introduce this world and its characters, go on the adventure, then return to stuff going wrong here. Really vague, so I scrapped the idea and began with...

The Woods

We start getting into the past a bit, expanding on Amandas time in university a little. We might be seeing more of that later.

Now that I'm looking at this, Aqua in the last panel is taller than he should be. Screw it, I'll just keep better check on the next ones and say that he's standing on a mound or something here. Or maybe it's a bit of that and a bit of perspective trickery.

Switching to the Charge Upfront method of payment

This means anyone new joining on is charged immediately, which saves me waiting a month to find out that they weren't intending to pay, and for everyone who is already a patron... nothing changes I think.

Otherwise called gender bender, transgender, etc. , this theme comes up in all kinds of fiction dating back to Greek mythology.

One way or another, this idea has lasted longer than many civilizations have existed, and at present comes in two flavors: Realistic gender swap, and fetishized gender swap.

So, the question then. In a fetishized variation, which gender do you think would enjoy sex more?

Magical Misadventures

Continuing the comic, pages 6 through to 8-9, I'm following a proper comic format (according to the internet) for the dimensions, so were you to print this off it should be a two page image. I don't know enough about printing pages, page thickness needs to be taken into account for printing so that the guides line up correctly, but there's nothing local for me to attempt some experimental prints...

The Ordinary World

WEW This page I've been waiting for months to get to. Drawing the same setting gets dull fast, maybe next time something like that happens I'll use more shots to show the setting. At this point if I could re-do the last few pages I'd include some shots of the farmers working or something. Well, it's inevitable so I just have to remember for next time.

Returned Clothes

Finally these two are setting off. Drawing clouds was fun but a change of scenery after months of the same cloudy sky is appreciated. Carmenta drops a few tidbits of information for us, and returns Amandas towel.  A towel, (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.

It is more likely that the towel will be useful in the near future than not. Or maybe I've just stretched the joke on too long now. I wrote this at...

Carmenta

This one was interesting to do, I didn't do my usual thing and use references for the hands and so on, but it still turned out pretty good. I'll try to use references more in future, some of the posing took more revisions just trying to skip steps, and probably wasted more time than it saved.

Sketches and older photoshop files

The photoshop files had to be scaled down and put in a zip folder, and right now there's only a few that were already photoshop files when I started.

I'll be spending some time going through older files and finding sketches that have been "lost", where the layers are still around but are made invisible. I tended to do this a lot over the years and there's a few gems... and failures, that I'll be collecting.

Music Box

Took a bit longer on this one, trying to do a better job of the hands because I've been skimping on using references for them, and so many of my pictures lacked details because of it. The third panel was fun, I've been wanting to draw more dynamic shots for a while, and now was a good time to have one.

Made a quick Christmas pic, not very creative outfits here but they were originally just planned to be Amanda nude and that was it, so anything extra worked itself in while I was working on it.

Some days I get a good grasp on how to draw in this style and somedays not so much, looks like today was a good day.

University Projects

It's interesting putting so much thought into these pages dialogues before scrapping them and then writing straight ahead at the end, going by memory.

The benefit is that you summarize what you meant in your head better than you can trim down, and naturally pick out the important bits to remember. The upside is that most people memorize in a similar fashion (I hope) and so as the story continues they should have an easier time remembering the important details. Short Break and Break Interrupted

I'd been working on these poses for some time now, went through a few revisions of the story before getting to this point, but I wanted this scene to happen this way and despite having much less going on, it needed to feel right. You might notice the lighting is brighter despite still being mostly in shadow, I'm revising my shading methods again and trying to use more of the flat color than relying on the darker shading like I had been.

Hypocrisy

I had a few issues with this one, more at the very end than during the whole process. Lost a day to computer crashes and a hectic  time trying to figure out if my screen colors are screwed up... If the second panel looks dark that's because my tablet sees all the colors fine, if not then my main monitor might be dying, I don't know. Either way, I can't get them to agree on dark and light shades of grey, the pan should stand out as two very different grey tones, not just black and a slightly...

This page was tough, went through a number of revisions of the lines and characters. I didn't want to spend too much time since they're going to be used once and then probably never seen again, but they still need to look a certain way for the story to work later.
