Divine Apostasy Book 7 - Chapter 22

Chapter 22

The Founders informed them the trial would start in the morning and everyone should find a tent for the night. One of the large tents provided food and water and another water for bathing. An hour after their arrival, everyone had eaten and changed back into their normal attire. Ruwen and Sift spent the rest of the day training all the Adepts but Echo, who paced around the edge of their encampment like a caged lion.

After everyone went to sleep for the night, Ruwen walk...

Chapter 21

Ruwen stepped through the portal already knowing they would arrive on the same planet. He had memorized the previous gate runes and recognized the symbol for this planet. Even though they’d come back to the same world, the site had changed drastically. The other Adepts had grouped together by Rung in a small dirt clearing, and as Ruwen walked toward Sift, he studied this new location.

They stood on a thousand-foot-wide mound shaped like a plateau, and over fifty tents...

Hi!

The big news this week is that the audiobook released for The Sixth Rune. Over 18 hours long, it is the longest audiobook yet for the series.

Once again I didn’t have as productive of a week as I would have liked. Fingers crossed I can find a rhythm soon.

The audiobook for The Grey Warden will start production this month and be ready for the probable release of the book in October. I don’t think I ever revealed who I’d chosen to narrate the book. It is Michael Crou...

Chapter 20

Sift reluctantly returned to the hilltop to start the training of Rung Four. To Ruwen’s surprise all the Adepts joined their session except Echo. She sat alone, head down, and quiet. Once again he resisted the urge to speak to her. After all, her disposition aura still remained a healthy red.

Sift moved between the rows of Adepts making corrections as he passed. Ruwen hid a smile as he thought about his friend. Sift tried to keep his life simple: food, especially swee...

Sift withdrew his hand and Ruwen studied the card. A massive tower filled the card, and he guessed it probably didn’t bode well from the drawing. Lightning had struck the tower and its crown shaped top tumbled downward. Flames emerged from the windows and smoke billowed from the tower’s door. Two figures fell to the ground, their faces full of fear.

Tarot turned his attention from the card to Sift. “The Tower represents danger, chaos, and violence in its darkest f...

Echo had found the Bamboo Viper Clan portal ring and Ruwen, Sift, and their twenty-four Adepts joined them three hours later. Once past the bridge, no one bothered them. Either the other Clans had witnessed what had happened on the bridge or word had spread. Regardless, the run acro...

The Sixth Rune is now available on Audible

Hello!

I just wanted to drop a quick note that the audible version is now live. Thank you to the best narrator in the business, Travis Baldree, for recording it so quickly and for turning the potato chips I gave him into a steak dinner for you to enjoy. We are so lucky to have him.

Take care,

Hi!

My productivity this week was terrible but I hope to get a bunch of words down this weekend.

Thank you to everyone who reviewed the books in the series. We crossed a milestone this week when all six books achieved over 1,000 reviews. That is something that makes me very happy, and it would never have happened if not for people like you who enjoy the series. Thank you so much.

Audio finished up last week and is in proofing. I couldn’t bring myself to drop by Travis’ d...

Chapter 17

“Who can’t swim?” Ruwen shouted.

Three of the Adepts raised a hand and Ruwen looked at Sift, sending him a message with Sphere of Influence. You take the one nearest you. I’ll take the other two. Remembering the underwater level in Blapy with the Octhorse, Ruwen added one more item. And don’t pee in the water.

Their current location put them directly between two sets of giant golem hands that supported the bridge. More bad luck...

Ruwen stood at the front of Rungs Two, Three, and Four and studied the bridge entrance a thousand feet away. The Founders had warned them the island had its own inhabitants, and they had made their first appearance.

What looked like walking seven-foot wolves defended the entrance of the bridge. They wore leather armor and brandished swords and crossbows. Over two hundred Adepts from other Clans fought the wolves and each other as they attempted to cross onto the bridge....

Ruwen turned to face the Adepts, verifying none had died. A few had injuries, but nothing serious enough to force the use of Massage to heal them. The Adepts continued to stand in stunned silence.

Ruwen pointed at the far side of the hill. “Rung Two and Three fetch the weapons and relics from the fallen. Leave them alive unless they threaten you.” He turned and pointed at the decimated Shattered Clan fighters. “Rung Four, collect the weapons and relics he...

Hi!

This week turned out far more productive than last week. I hope that I’ve found a process that allows me to be more productive, which is good for everyone. The fruit of this is three chapters this week instead of two.

In audio news, Travis finished book six today. He told me it ended up at 18 hours and 23 minutes. I hope you had the chance to drop in and watch him perform it live. It still needs to be proofed and corrected so my guess is sometime in September it will be live...

Sift closed his eyes, shook his head, and sighed. “Let’s hear it.”

Ruwen pointed as he spoke. “There are two immediate groups that need countered and another on the way. One of us goes for the approaching group, one of us defends half this hill, and the Adepts guard the other half.”

“I want the approaching bunch. It’s already crowded up here and it’s only going to get worse.”

Tarot flicked his wrist and a small card appeared. He jumped on the card and stood like a sled surfer. The card shot forward fast enough that Ruwen’s Last Breath triggered. Tarot circled Ruwen’s head three times before the card vanished and Tarot jumped off it directly onto Ruwen’s head.

Tarot burrowed into Ruwen’s hair and Ruwen resisted the urge to slap or itch the tiny golem. Three seconds later, Tarot stopped moving.

“You need a new barber,” Tarot ...

Hi!

This week proved challenging, and I didn’t get as much written as I would have liked. I did however add something to the world building that I am excited about. I will be interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on it.

I spent some time thinking about “Wonder” again this week. As some of you know, I spent over a decade working hard on my writing craft, and it resulted in me getting signed by a literary agent. In fact, a very early version of The Grey Warden (the other ch...

Chapter 11

Ruwen held his breath, shocked at the last statement. He had not told Tarot his name. It was possible he’d overheard Ruwen’s first name, but certainly not his last. That meant the golem maybe had access to hidden knowledge. It certainly made him take the Thieving Misfortune Golem more seriously.

Ruwen opened his mouth to ask, but Tarot lifted a tiny finger.

“No questions,” Tarot said. “Concentrate on the deck and choose three cards. Your reading awaits....
