Hello there! I hope y'all are doing great!
First off, this novel will be updating again soon. My apologies for disappearing the last few days, someone from my mother's side of the family had passed away and I had to attend to their funeral. Now that that's been dealt with, I'm back to writing but I do still feel rather down at the moment. I will try to get the updates back to normal, though. Just, no promises.
Second, I've finally launched on Royal Road. I would love to have ...

The sun cast long shadows across the churning river that snaked around Holden. On the riverbank, in a specific location that neared the Deadwoods but also neared Holden and more importantly the river and the makeshift workshop of wood and canvas, stood Ethan and Artos the [Blacksmith]. Artos wiped sweat from his brow with a thick, calloused arm, a satisfied smile etched on his face.
“Looks like a beast, doesn’t it?” Artos said. His voice ...

Ethan decided that he wanted to send letters to the remaining three: Ducart, Kinsey, and Lykren. He didn’t want to meet them himself. The only reason he’d come to meet Hector was that Theodore had some feelings—nasty feelings regarding the man and he needed to deal with that to scratch an itch he didn’t know he had. For the others, letters would suffice. He wouldn’t even detail everything, just simple normal stuff. All that wo...
Alaron stood atop a desolate mountain, overlooking the smoldering ruins of a once-vibrant city. “This world is a festering wound.”
“Indeed,” a woman said. It was Lyra, a loyalist of the Empire. “Another senseless slaughter. When will this madness end?”
Alaron turned to face her. “When will greed and ambition be quelled, Lyra?” Alaron countered, his gaze fixed on the smoldering wreckage. “Perhaps never.”
Lyra placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. ...
Old note, again: I edited a paragraph in the last chapter as it contradicted this one. Put simply, I'm a hybrid between a pantser and an outliner (google if you don't know ). I have overall ideas so as to where I want the story to go, but lack the specifics, so there can be changes as I write stuff—changes that I quickly edit in. My apologies...
Regardless, here's the paragraph that had some changes:
The thought of the man left a bitter taste in Eth...

Old Note, those subbing after 30th may don't need to worry. Ready for context, maybe.
Old note: The last chapter has been edited and I've put more content into the first scene. You should read it ;)
Now some explanation for the future: For those who do not know, and for those that will come sub later and read this, let me clarify something. The way I write things, I usually leave some stuff inside curly brackets - and this "stuff" is what needs mo...

Ethan traced his finger along the meticulously drawn sketch of a simple, yet sturdy, wheelbarrow.
“What is this?” asked Artos.
“I call it a wheelbarrow,” Ethan explained, tracing the spokes of the wheel. “A single large wheel in front, supported by two handles in the back for easy maneuvering. Perfect for transporting goods around town.”
The smith scrutinized the designs, a frown etching its way between his e...

[Meditation] — Lvl 2 -> Lvl 3!
Dismissing the window, Ethan calmed himself and resumed his meditation, refilling this mana reserve. Soon, he opened his eyes and stood up. Then he changed his approach. Instead of making major improvements, he decided to shape the fire into something closest to a sphere—which was obviously an egg-shape.
Almost instinctively, the rune changed. The rune becam...

“So, you have been seeking introductory books, am I correct, my lord?” Derrick asked.
“Yes, I’ve been seeking introductory books on sorcery. I’m eager to begin studying sorcery and could use recommendations on quality books. What works would you recommend for a newcomer to the arcane arts? More importantly, do you possess them?”
Derrick stroked his chin thoughtfully. “For theory and history, Arnelden’s ‘Funda...

Ethan surveyed the men before him, schooling his expression. Cedric was one of his advisors, a lean man, taller than the average in Holden, and wiry, but with the unmistakable long and callused fingers of someone well skilled with a bow. It was odd to see such features, but Ethan wasn’t one to point it out or talk about it. A perpetual worried crease etched between his brows; he shuffled a stack of parchments.
Beside him, Ro...

Juliana Lockheart sat perched on the edge of her plush bed. Draped in a silk robe the color of twilight, she exhaled smoke from her lips. Tonight, she couldn’t stop herself from lighting one. The cigar hung loosely from her lips as she read the letter in her hand with a smile. Her friend usually held icy control, but right now, as she read the letter, the princess of Solaris appeared to be ranting. How amusing.
Dearest Ju...

Ethan took the book from Roland’s hand.
“My lord, this is what I’ve managed to get. Though, a man named Derrick was also interested in meeting you, so you can likely get more detailed books later.”
“Sure, thank you.”
Bowing, Roland left Ethan’s room. Ethan sifted through the book he’d secured about magic. It was written in a tongue that he somehow understood through [Myriad Tongue]. The magic in this worl...

Ethan held the bar of soap up to the sunlight, the pink hue catching the light and shimmering. It wasn’t perfect, but a thrill ran through him. It was his creation. Well, technically not, but he still made something. His first creation in this new world.
The urge to try it was overwhelming. He could picture the luxurious lather, the clean scent of flowers, and the gentle scrub. Roland stood beside him; ...

There were fifteen wolves in total, their white fur stained with dried blood as well as ash from the forest itself as their maws opened to reveal sharp teeth. There were several gashes on their body and one of them seemed to be in a really bad state.
Roland had a tight grip on his sword. Roland spotted Ethan’s head poking out. “Lord Theodore, please hide inside!” Roland yelled. Ethan didn’t respond, however. Is it dumb t...

Jack frowned as he observed the tall woman in the third stage of the Blight through the spell construct in front of him—it let him zoom in view things without needed expensive lenses and glasses, and it didn’t cost him too much mana. Her flesh was rotting, and she appeared to be quite feral. Growling through the rope tied over her mouth, she writhed back and forth as her claw-like fingernails raked across the floor.

Ethan’s heart thumped in his throat as he looked at the arrow’s head glinting. Fortunately, Roland had grabbed it in an instant. The arrow hadn’t hit Ethan, and it likely wouldn’t have. Roland threw the arrow aside as Ethan heard a muffled grunt and glanced out the window to the right. An arrow had pierced the side of their driver, right between the shoulder and chest. Ethan whipped back into his seat just as another...

“Business opportunity?” Jack blinked, amused. “Intriguing. One doesn’t often hear a noble propose such a thing to a [Necromancer].”
Roland shifted uncomfortably.
Ignoring him, Ethan leaned back in his chair.
“Let’s just say these are unorthodox times, Jack. And frankly, the problems plaguing Holden call for equally unorthodox solutions.” He gestured towards a nearby chair. “Do have a seat, and allow me ...

Roland cursed under his breath as he trudged down the muddy path toward Lord Theodore’s manor. The late early morning sun cast long shadows, painting the desolate landscape in an even bleaker light.
Why was it only him who had to deal with Lord Theodore’s bullshit? Just last night, Roland had to take care of all the complaints from the bar he’d found Lord Theodore at. Not to mention, he had to pay compensation to the wenches f...

Ethan’s fists pounded the punching bag, sending a rapid series of jabs that landed with resounding thumps, each strike punctuated by ragged breaths. Sweat dripped from his brow, stinging his eyes, but he refused to stop, refused to surrender to the burning in his muscles or the rawness of his knuckles. He remained focused on punching.
Around him, the rest of the boxing team rested, even the coach looked like he needed a b...
