Thought "Fade to Gray" Betty with her Silver Age aesthetic would work for this idea.

Pictures are pretty much speaking for themselves at this point, so I'll let them do the talking.

This was done for a long time supporter and fellow artist, SHFan. Inspired by his love of Godzilla movies (and my own, similar character, Meg Raymond aka Queen Kaiju), Ayane transforms into the fearsome Kaijira, Queen of the Monsters! Check out the lettered version at his dA page: http://fav.me/ddpm8xv
This of course reminds me I need to do something more with Meg as well!

(I was going to call this “Monhly Sketch Drawing” and realized that might be kind of confusing.)
So, I promised you an announcement, and here it is! I wanted to do a small something to,ale the rewards here a bit more personal, and came up with this. Above are some examples of quick color sketches I’ve done over the last month. Starting this month I will be drawing one lucky patron’s name and offering to do a similar piece featuring a subject of their choice!
Which panel from page 7 should be the teaser for your fellow patrons?

"Ericka gritted her teeth as she the very core of her being seemed to lurch wildly. Her entire body spasmed and as her clothing seemed to contract around her body. Pulsing muscle was pushing against cloth and she could not stop a growl from escaping as she felt her self control slip, inch by inch."

Going back over my archives I don't think I ever posted the chosen preview panel from page 6 of Julie Takes Wing for the Battle Duck Brigade. So here it is--enjoy!

Hello, Canine Crusader Corps!
I am sorry it's been so long since a page update from either of the ongoing projects--Julie Takes Wing and WDmF. Hopefully now that we're out of the holidays and the fall rush things will update more regularly. We've reached a critical point in the birth of Julie's Alter Ego--next page, the real fun begins. I hope you've been enjoying it so far, and thank you for your patience!

And here's the final image for panel 7! Another page complete! Assembled page to follow shortly!

When doing this method, some small things are just not worth outlining and filling, like buttons, teeth, lips, and so on. On a separate layer I just color these things with the pencil tool. I also add the plaid pattern on the dress. After this there’ll be a couple of other touch ups—sweat, the white streaks in her hair, and some atmospheric shading and, along with text added in Clip Studio Paint, she’ll be good to go!
Thanks for following the process with me—hopeful...

Going back to the figure base, I use the pen tool to block of the different sections of the body and fill them with different shades. Except for the blue eyes all the “colors” used in Julie Takes Wing are based of grayscale comic shades—cool, warm, tone, and neutral. Shiny parts, like the shoes, tie, and hair, are filled in with the lightest shade of gray and then colored over with the main color, leaving some space for highlights. I then use the pencil tool to add some shading and vol...

So, on a layer below the figure I draw the lines for the backdrop. Sometimes I use a perspective guide, other times I fudge it. This time I fudged it. On new layers below, I add different colors. First the floor, then the couch, then the end table and the pillow. The pencil is set to multiply so I can easily ad some shadows by going back over the areas. Each area is done on it’s own layer then they’re merged together.

Here’s where I deviate from the color approach. After doing the line art, I trace the outline of the figure one more time to make sure there are no gaps. I create a blank layer and hide all the other layers. Then I set the magic wand selection tool to refer to all showing layers and select all the areas outside the figure. I then invert the selection and fill it with a base color on the blank layer. I then set this foundation layer to lock all the transparent picture so I can draw only on t...

Taking a black pencil, I go over the image one more time to create the final line art for the main figure.

And done! The final phase of Dr Karen "Kitty" Lou Faulkner into... Rampage! I hope you've enjoyed this little visit with a forgotten DC character from the Post-Crisis Era of DC Comics!

Next up I add in the details. Had to tak a couple of passes at this to get the perspective right on the outfit, especially the mid section.

Here’s the next one and we’re all caught up. In case you haven’t guessed, we’ve been counting down to the final phase, which is complete and will be uploaded tonight!

Here’s the next phase—getting a more clear sense of the body. I made a revision to this after the first pass once I realized the arms were too awkward.

I’ve been sharing the process steps for my full color stuff, but I haven’t really gone over the process I’m using for this grayscale comic. Since this next panel is a key one I thought I’d share the process as I went. First, the rough sketch in blue pencil. (All of this is done in Autodesk Sketchbook.)

I was going to pair this with the next panel since it's kind of minor, but I'm going to do something a little different with 8-7. Besides, I kind of like this as a stand alone piece too. Stay tuned--an update about the next panel will be following shortly!
