I took this vow first. you can see how they conflict. i needed to earn the respect of the Corvids in The City, to work my way to the top to have more power in order to defend them, but knew i would never be able to achieve that without playing by their rules. so, i lied. i created rumors of a fictional version of myself, gathered loyal followers around me, until it was they who dealt with any objectors, quashed any misgivings
