D: the crow is the priority. It’s not like you were ever here to study, anyway. You have 2 hours to pack and leave.

D: figure something out. But I will still require weekly reports. I expect to hear results being in the heart of it all.

D: good. I want you to keep seeing him. Now that he’s closer to his Murder and evidently chosen his side they will involve him in more of their antics. I want you to trace them to the root, find out all the moving cogs.

K: the murder is tight-knit and the boss already had me beaten up for being in their territory once – they’ll never trust me enough to let me in on their secrets.

D: they don’t need to. All it takes is for one lonely crow to start talking.

K: ..no, director. I am very aware.

K: I believe so, yes.

D: after my last convo with him, I believe he has been swayed by his roots, and with him gone from this academy and back in corvid territory, he is no longer under my jurisdiction. I will assume he has been fully indoctrinated into that Murder, and therefore useless to me. Luckily I have a backup.

K: I found that becoming his friend and having him allow me to follow him around made the work easier than having to tail him discreetly. His perception is sharp…but despite everything he’s been through he’s also too trusting, once he lets you in.

D: He trusts you then?

K: a gang of buzzards had just jumped him while he was alone and found out about his Murder band. I was afraid word would get around and he would become a target. He said you wouldn’t protect him, so I made an executive decision.

D: I specifically made you two roommates so you could keep an eye on him at all times and make sure something like that didn’t happen.

K: They…took advantage of the one thing I was lenient about to strike.

That was a real cute story, but if you think for one second you’ve convinced us that this little force you’ve built is anything other than acting out some power trip fantasy, you’re even deeper into your delusion than you realize.

. I didn’t even recognize my own hands. Back there i was only one of many, even in my family. Just a number.  I knew then that I wasn’t going to go back to my old life. Couldn’t. so I made the decision permanent.

I trained the ones who were willing to fight for their peace. I taught them the strategies The Roost had taught me.

We scouted a base that was in a more advantageous location. And we got to work.

Amidst the chaos I had a sudden, sharp realization. With half my sight gone, I could suddenly see clearer than I had my entire life. My face wasn’t that of my father’s but my own.

N: icarus – that was some stunt you just pulled, kid. Looks around at people. 

I suddenly knew my purpose here. or, at least, what I could do to help these people who just wanted a peaceful life. I turned to the only thing I knew – violence, in the name of peace.

A sense of accomplishment I’d never gotten from anything at the academy, where everything is about competing against each other for better ranks and grades, not helping each other. Making things better for other people.

After following orders my entire life, I sort of just…went with it. I didn’t know what else to do other than what they told me. I helped build a fence. I’d never built anything before. There was something…rewarding about it.

The stream was a nightmare with crowdcast being a bitch so we ended up on Twitch (you can find the video on my twitch channel @megjgrey if you wanna watch but it is very long with no music and just me talking because I didn't have time to find twitch music hahaaaa)
