I rose slowly, getting a better look at the goblins. They were turned to face away from me about forty feet away where they'd stopped earlier. This was probably lucky for me since I didn’t need to move far to engage them. More importantly, they still hadn’t spotted me.
My night vision had always been pretty decent. I never thought I’d be in a situation where that fact might save my life.
All three monsters were talking, the noise helped cover my appro...

I got this art from a kickstarter I pledged to--Aethon's drinking RPG card game.
New chapters of Sponsored Apocalypse will be up tomorrow. :)

I didn’t know exactly where I was as I lay down in the undergrowth of the dark forest, trying to catch my breath and get my bearings. My earlier sprint had actually let me cover a lot of ground. That’s right, I thought. My stats rose.
If my understanding of stats was correct, that meant I would at least physically equal an olympic athlete now.
It was a weird thought.
Luckily, the moon was bright enough to see by. I used a broken ...

Some weird noises outside were a little concerning, but I ignored them. I was just a dude with a 4 in Agility in and empty house with no weapons at the moment. Freaking out was not going to help me, so instead, I poured all my focus into the hoving screens.
The “special” skill list was absolutely huge. In fact, didn’t I get a system message that gave it a name? I pulled up my old messages and found it. Sponsors’ Curated Skills and Traits Store.

“First I have a question,”I said.
“Speak.”
“Who the hell are you?” I asked. The man’s clothing was too substantial, too…real…to be cosplay. He also had a certain aura that reminded me of powerful people, confident people.
My hand went to my pocket, but even my fucking pocket knife was gone. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I whispered with a chuckle. The surprise of someone popping up in the corner of my room still had my hair st...

This is a new series in the Apocalypse Cultivation universe. :) Just like Apocalypse Cultivation, it'll be at least 4 books long.
-----------------------
What would you do if you knew the world was going to end?
For me, the answer was to prepare as best I could and otherwise stop caring about anything else, put my life–what was left of it–on hold. After all, if everything was going to end, why would anything else matter?
Besides, there...

Hey folks!
I wrote a little bit of a new fiction a while ago, and I liked the idea so much that I floated it out in the ether and got a publishing deal for it.
So I've been working on Sponsored Apocalypse this month.
All the back end work is done, so I've been cranking out chapters. I'm going to be posting the first 5 of them here tonight.
This story /does/ take place in the Apocalypse Cultivation universe, and there might be crossover. :)
I know there...

Hey all! A few things.
1. Savage Webs (Apocalypse Cultivation 2) comes out on the 19th. I'll still be posting links and such then but you can actually preorder it right now if you'd like.
2. I will be taking chapters to Apocalypse Cultivation 2, Savage Webs down tomorrow.
3. For the folks at tiers that are eligible to receive a free physical book, please pm me so I can get that stuff worked out and verify your address, etc. Since Jake's Story is no...

This one is not done yet. It's still in rough draft form and the typography isn't what will be on the final book at all.
Coming out nice, though!

Jake was not sure how long he drifted in the dark, bloody water. If he hadn’t met the soul-chewing revenant in the Dead City already to have experienced new worlds of agony, it would have been the most painful experience of his life.
And through the entire ordeal, he had to keep cultivating, assimilating, growing, changing. It felt endless. Luckily, he had some recent experience with moments that seemed to last forever.
So in the midst of trying to break through to a...

Fantasma led Jake to another alley that he wouldn’t have been able to find on his own in 1500 years. Its existence was well camouflaged to begin with, and she did something with hand to open a hidden door in the wall.
Once they were through, the alley was clean and seemed somehow less weathered than the rest of the city. There were doors lining both walls of the alley, all were different shades of grey.
Sounds from the city were beginning to get louder.
Yar...

Jake woke up and nothing around him had really changed, which was surprising. He really should have died while he was defenseless on the ground.
The Dead City was cold, uninviting, dangerous, alien…but he was still alive to be oppressed by it. His soul was still intact, too. A little bruised and wounded, but still there.
He got up slowly, painfully, and began cycling his cultivation base. That action was calming, but also hurt like hell. His body, m...

Okay, a few things about this chapter. This is not the end of the book but we are getting close. :)
First, some of you might remember some parts of this plot art from a dream I had like 3 years ago. Yes, I wrote this book to include that. If you remember the dream, you might know where this is going.
Second, please forgive any wonky formatting. I switched between multiple writing programs for this chapter.
As usual, this chapter will have less poli...

Six renown points, thought Jake.
He kept thinking of ways to avoid spending the points. Nothing and nobody was forcing him to enter a dangerous, dead city. He could just walk away, maybe even use the Reward System to get some sort of invisibility or fast travel.
But that would still require using renown points, and it also wouldn’t address the fundamental problem that Jake was too weak right now. Just flying and hoping for the best was risky as hell.

Over the next few days of travel, Jake was still glad to be out of the Web Burrows but his overall mood grew more somber.
The Murim World was huge and dangerous as hell. This was made extremely obvious through a few close calls and just observing the world around them.
Jake needed to get stronger. It was as much a fact of survival as much as going back to help his home world at this point.
On the second day of flying, he’d had the presence of mind to pull up th...

“Is this far enough to talk?” asked Jake.
“I have no idea, boss. But we’ve been walking for two days straight, so if not, I doubt another day will matter.”
“Good point.”
The two of them had suddenly found themselves in an empty, arid place after making their Cultivation Oaths to become inner sect, Skull of Secrets disciples. One moment they’d been in an opulent mansion in the Web Burrows, and the next, they were outside. There’d barely ev...

The three of them walked unopposed toward the mysterious double doors to the forbidden, private area. On the way, Jake reflected on the fact his escape plan had gone to hell. The Clay Bat might still be able to teleport, but he wasn’t sure if Bartok was completely healed yet after getting shot to hell.
Slim walked at his side. The normally chipper, unflappable man plodded along, gingerly nursing one arm.
Behind them, a clean and serene Nag Geru followed. ...

Once Jake was outside the challenge portal, his hackles rose immediately. He shouldn’t have been gone from the Web Burrows for very long at all, but he remembered in a flash how he’d felt weird about the vast caverns he’d unearthed.
And the worst, most deadly demon beasts in the Web Burrows were always in the large caverns.
Jake thought he heard something in the darkness and didn’t stick around to find out what it was. He was really not wanting another fight to...

After stepping through this portal, he didn’t lose consciousness like the last time, but Jake didn’t also didn’t experience an endless moment like he had with Conophta’s portal. Instead, it was like no time had passed when he suddenly found himself in the Morrigan’s garden.
The Goddess did not acknowledge Jake’s presence. She was practicing with a spear, and it was one of the most beautiful things Jake had ever seen. He slowly sat to watch.
Every stri...

Jake called up his interface from the Mini Map, enhanced. He’d checked it before, while restrained and being pulled to this place, but sure enough it was still working perfectly.
The weird chaos of this planet and its many illusions might be able to confuse even some of the most powerful warriors, and probably the highest technology, but it didn’t fool Jake’s map. As always, it had recorded wherever he’d been, creating an easily accessed map in his h...

When Jake woke up, his first thought was how happy he was that he was still alive. His second thought was that maybe it’d be better if he were dead. Everything hurt, both his arms and shoulders were badly burned, and he was completely out of energy.
What was worse, the backlash from using Phoenix Peircing Talon had poisoned his energy. He...

Alright, Plan A and Plan B are a bust. Time for Plan C.
Canophta’s heavy footsteps echoed on the marble floor, returning from wherever he’d gone to. Jake’s original plan had been to escape his restraints, hide by the entry to the hallway the minotaur had gone down, and ambush him with everything he had left.
Jake tested his restraints in a way he hadn’t before, trying to test his range of motion. Hmmm, no great, but not too bad, either. A n...

Jake didn’t exactly lose consciousness, his mind just couldn’t properly comprehend what was happening. He instinctively knew that time, space, and every other building block of reality was being stretched, moved around, or even replaced.
The sensation didn’t last long, or maybe it did. Jake had no way to tell. Not...

Jake panted as he hid behind a looted Taco Bell. He grimly tightened the bandages he’d place above and on his wound. Even spinning his cultivation base and using every trick he had to avoid acknowledging pain, it hurt like hell.
He’d kill a few more raiders while escaping. The reality was the he’d gotten luck. Bartok had gone down in a really good area for Jake to avoid being completely exposed. Flash stepping was great and all, but Jake was slowing d...

“Night just never fucking ends,” Jake muttered to himself. Bartok winged through the sky, following the road back in the direction Jake had come before. He’d been pretty sure he’d known where the kidnappers had gone, but once he was up in the air he’d been able to immediately confirm it.
The van was running without visible lights, but it was using infrared lights. Veil Piercing Phoenix Eyes were proving to be incredibly helpful. Maybe because they were ...

Jake was in an incredibly bad mood when he rode the clay bat back to the schools. The fact the boombox was playing “Dance Monkey” now, and he hated that song, was not helping matters. He didn’t bother turning the boom box off, though. It felt appropriate to be blasting music that made him want to stick sharpened pencils in his ear holes.
Blood steadily dripped from his elbow. His burns hurt like hell. Every time he cycled his cultivation base, his mer...

Holy shit this fucking thing is fast, thought Jake. He was strong as hell, too. In general, Jake’s opponent was stronger, faster, and tougher that he was. His magic was incredibly strong. Every weapon the minotaur swung seemed to have some sort of magical effect, and he didn’t seem to care too much about breaking them. This was the first time Jake had ever fought an enemy with dimensional storage like he had, and it was fucking annoying. And sc...

Jake was feeling a bit of euphoria. The last time he’d been on earth, things had been a lot different. Almost all of his memories after being reincarnated had revolved around being shot, beat up, or near death. It was nice to be seal clubbing for a change.
Most of the monsters he was fighting were probably rank D or so, with a few rank C. Jake himself was probably still rank C as a mo...
