Reincarnator RB Dragons, ch 23

He was beginning to feel impatient enough to tap a foot by the time he was finally called to the front again.

Kevin followed the receptionist through a door into another room. This room reminded him uncomfortably of the dungeon he’d just fought and killed in less than a week ago.  The walls looked old, made of smooth stone, though it was not actually meant to house prisoners.

A new person standing inside the room, waiting for Kevin, nodded his he...

Kevin explained to Rock about where they could both get an identification card again, and Rock said, "If it's all the same to you, I think I'll just go to the Adventurer's Guild. I don't know any magic and I don’t think that I'm educated enough for the Magi Guild, and the Fighters Guild sounds like a really bad time for no good reason."

"Okay, works for me," said Kevin. He and the older goblin split up, with the rest of the goblins staying back at the inn. Kevin had t...

"I think we're lost," said Rock.Kevin had to nod in agreement. The rest of the goblins had pinched, anxious faces. Even though they had only been in the city for less than an hour, it was immediately obvious that there weren't very many other goblins walking around.

The last few minutes had been a reminder that the former prisoners, for all the efforts they’d made to wash their clothing, weren’t wearing much better than rags.  The effect helped part ...

Past Life Hero and other projects, a note and an explanation.

Hey everyone!

Before I even really start this explanation, I need to level: part of this message is an excuse, but part of it is also an FYI about everything I've been doing lately. So, this should serve as both an apology and a community note of sorts.

I'm a little bit behind on Past Life Hero, but it's not because I haven't been writing it. I actually wrote several chapters that I ended up scrapping. For everybody who's been with me a long time and ha...

The city of Clearmine surprised Kevin in several positive and negative ways as his group joined the queue to enter the city. For one, it was much better protected and well-guarded than he had imagined. But as he saw a few people entering even from the side of the city he was one—the opposite side from where most trade flowed—and recognized them as very obvious merchants, it made sense to him.  They were being sneaky because they were dealing with a hell of a lot of money, most likely...

“You'll be able to see the human-city Clearmine as soon as you are over the next hill," said Branch.

Kevin nodded.  He'd gone off by himself, away from the group, using elimination as an excuse. Of course, he really had needed to go, and as usual, Branch had left him alone during that time. But now, before heading back, he was having a quick conversation with the fairy.

Branch said, "It looks bigger than I remember."

"When'...

Over the next few days, Kevin's life changed significantly. For one, he had to move a lot slower with a group of shell-shocked and malnourished goblins in tow. The fact that he was feeding additional mouths slowed down progress, too.

At least he had Branch to help him find game to hunt, which was sort of cheating, but Kevin decided it was for a  good cause.  Still, now it took him longer to hunt more and to process the game and to cook it. But unless he wanted...

Kevin traveled a decent distance down the tunnel before seeing anything other than just rocky walls. Once he saw how far the orks were actually hauling rocks and debris, he felt a twinge of sympathy for the amount of work they were doing. Even though they were evil, cultist enemies, the sheer effort they were exerting was noteworthy. He figured it was also pretty lucky that whatever they were digging was so deep underground; otherwise, they might already be finished. He got lucky o...

He regarded the goblins calmly. "Alright, I'm about to leave, but I want to go through everything you need to do before I go." Before and after he softly spoke, he listened through the door for the sound of any orks passing by. During his earlier whispered conversation with the surviving goblins, they had so far avoided discovery.  Staying sneaky was good.

"Please don't go, young master," said one of the goblins, a male.

Kevin's skin began to crawl.  It wasn’t through fear, either.  He was familiar with this sensation.  Something evil, supernatural, and powerful was afoot.

He was saddened, and anxious now that his premonition had something to it. There was also a bit of frustration mixed in there.

Kevin had spent a great deal of time studying this world and discussing the various races with the dragons he’d met.  This included stereotypes.  ...

"What the heck is that?" whispered Kevin.

"Like I told you before, I'm not sure," replied Branch.

The two of them were hiding in some dense undergrowth, watching what appeared to be a mine in the near distance being worked by orks.

"What the heck are orks doing this far east?" said Kevin.

"Do you want me to say it again, boss?"

"No, I know, I know. You don't know." Kevin shook his head and continued watching ...

Long chapter. Like the word count of 2 chapters.

---

Kevin returned to the strange village, Great Hope, and the guards merely waved him through at the gate. It was actually nice to be recognized.  Unfortunately, he feared for the town.  Mentally shaking his head, he grunted.  These people were trying to screen for polymorphed dragons.  It was obvious that these people, no matter how powerful they were for humans, knew nothing about dragons.

Link to Reincarnator Raised By Dragons on RR

I just realized that folks on here don't really have to sub to the story on RR to get chapters. However, I'm trying to get on rising stars with the story right now, so I'm asking a favor.

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind subbing to the story on RR?

If not, I understand. No guilt.

Thanks

Kevin didn't take any chances. He made sure to find a relatively safe hiding place with a good vantage point over the lake but behind plenty of trees. At first, he stayed in his goblin form, but then he realized that he was making life much too hard for himself. Instead of staying low in a painful pile of rocks, he transformed into a chipmunk and climbed one of the trees near the lake. He avoided climbing high enough in the branches to avoid being surprised by any predatory birds or airborne ...

Almost a full day’s walk out of the village, Kevin consulted his crude map.  “ Isn't the lake up this way?"

"Yes, yes, yes," said Branch. "You want me to look ahead?"

"Please," said Kevin. "The plan is still the same as before, but I guess I'll just have to move a little bit more quickly."

Branch nodded before zipping off into the air. A growing sense of stress began to creep up Kevin's back as he moved forward. To go faster through ...

Inns were surprisingly cheap in Great Hope.  Kevin decided to stay in the village for a while after getting some supplies. Not only was making the inn he’d found a cost-effective base on operations, he was enjoying the hot baths and he’d also gotten a lead on some mysterious, unique monsters.

Once he had gotten a handful of leads to check out, Kevin was actually able to find the first creature with Branch's help. The moment Kevin had been out of the area of the...

Past the crude log walls, Kevin's suspicions were all proven correct.

It was all a ruse.

High quality, solid-built guard posts were just inside the wall, barely low enough to be mostly hidden from outside by the wooden palisade. The roofs of the first few rows to buildings next to the wall were covered in pieces of logs to camouflage them, blending in with the outwardly shabby appearance of the village.  There was a cleverly hidden stone wall that ran around the ...

As Kevin approached the village, the guards that had started towards him earlier never actually completely closed the distance. They followed from a distance. Some more guards had formed a small group ahead of him outside the town.

He was impressed; soldiers and guards were uncommon for small villages like this, not least because of the resources necessary to maintain a full time guard’s training, body, and gear. But then he realized that out in the wilderness, especially...

"Did you get anything?" asked Branch.

"Nope, not this time," Kevin replied. He regarded his wooden plate of grilled meat with a hint of frustration but mostly just curiosity. "If it had anything to do with size or difficulty, this definitely would have worked."

"I agree. This monster almost killed you."

Kevin nodded seriously. The monster in question, a humpback swamp mastodon, had been extremely tricky for him to deal with. He had only...

Kevin had never cooked and eaten a monster before. Even in his past life, when he'd been a knight, there had always been something else to eat less…exotic. Back then, there’d also been fewer monsters than demons, and there was no way in hell he would consider eating something like a demon unless he was starving, and maybe not even then. But monsters in this world, as long as they were not of the demonic variety, were far less disgusting. And if a creature was dead, it stopped being intimi...

When the monster stalked out of the woods, Kevin felt equal parts fear and excitement. For most of his life in this world, he hadn’t had an opportunity to fight monsters. After all, there was no way monsters were coming anywhere near his parents' nest. The aura of the Great Ones was unmistakable, and even having one of them around was enough to make any monster steer clear for miles.

His mother had been far too overprotective to let him go out fighting monsters on his own...

Kevin awoke in the morning in a very unexpected way. Instead of regaining consciousness naturally when the sun touched his face, he heard a voice.

"A chipmunk, are you?"

When Kevin opened his eyes and saw the silhouette of a figure outside, he felt a flash of adrenaline but forced himself to calm before acting.  He couldn't sense any ill intent from whoever was talking. If he'd sensed any ill intent, he would have woken up in a flash, even wh...

Kevin set off from the mountains on his own, with his father's help. Despite what she had said about letting him go, Agara could be a bit overprotective, and neither Kevin nor Parga that she would truly not meddle. As a result, Kevin had accepted one of the few minor enchanted rings that Parga had bothered to keep over the many years.

Kevin carefully schooled his expression as he listened to his mother continue to vent, which had evolved into a series of complaints and worrying concerns. Although humans and other races had a difficult time reading draconic expressions, they had no problem at all with bipedal expressions of their own.

Kevin's mother, Agaraparanamasta, had polymorphed into her most commonly assumed mortal form. She was tall and lithe, a rare, sandy-skinned dark elf with lustrous hair showi...

Reincarnator Raised by Dragons blurb and placeholder art.

We'll get a real cover before publishing, but another author helped me with this placeholder art before then. I know not all of you read on RR, so I figured I'd put it here too for everyone to see.

The blurb:

Kevin has lived multiple lives, and all of them had been either difficult or traumatic.  Even his first life on earth involved portals and attacks by monsters!  But he is living a new life on a beautiful fantasy world now, and he has the best adopted parents, ever...

Reincarnator Raised by Dragons Foreword for Patreon

From now on, I'll be writing Reincarnator Raised by Dragons as "Reincarnator RBD" or "Reincarnator RB Dragons" going forward. :)

This story is one reason I've been a little behind on Past Life Hero 3 for a little bit. That situation should be fixed now with this launch.

Anyway, here's a bit from Royal Road:

"As noted in the blurb, this story is in the same greater universe as Apocalypse Cultivation, Sponsored Apocalypse, and Past Life Hero.

Past Life Hero 3 news.

Hi Everyone!

I know I'm a little behind right now with Past Life Hero 3 chapters. Two things happened at once to make this the current state of affairs.

1. I wasn't happy with my last few chapters and scrapped them. That will seriously set me back.

2. I am launching my secret project today, and getting ready for it has been a substantial amount of work.

I'm actually launching Reincarnator Raised By Dragons today.

There will only be one Patreon change for ...

Sponsored Apocalypse launched today on Amazon!

I saved the best for last. lol. It's kind of exhausting writing so many promos for a new book that comes out, but I always feel a little better after coming to Patreon.

Folks here, person-per-person, have the most important things to say (good and bad) and have that most skin in the game.

As many of you already know, this series is set in the same universe as Apocalypse Cultivation and Past Life Hero.

Unlike the other series, this one is more crunchy LitRPG.

Slight delay on new chapters for Past Life Hero

Hey fam,

I wrote some stuff for PLH 3 but I decided it was not good enough, especially because of where the story is at now. For those who are reading further ahead, please don't drop spoilers in the comments.

Anyway, I'm still going to post chapters, it'll just be later in the week, and it might just be one or two instead of the full 3.

I'm also currently finishing another book right now and my brain is at max capacity.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
