2023-04-03 01:19:25 +0000 UTC View PostApologies, the dog comic is running a bit late! I keep getting stuck trying to think up an idea for the (as yet unseen) teen daughter, but as I don't know any teenagers it's proving tricky!
I'd initially thought I could just draw from my own experiences of being a teen, but then I remembered that was pre-internet! I'm paranoid about doing one of those "this is what the kids are into nowadays!" things and completely missing the mark!
Anyway, March's dog comic is ...

Starting at panel 2, this was a real conversation, but J wasn't involved in it. He was there, but I said everything out loud to us both.
Our firstborn was an angry baby and a difficult toddler. When you're in that situation you tend to keep looking for the milestone when things will turn around. It will be better once he can walk, talk, 2yrs, 3yrs....! The goalpost keeps moving. I mused that things would have to get better at 4 because I'd never hear...

I came up with this one last summer after I set the boys looking for a 4-leaf clover in the garden. I sketched it out, but ran into 2 issues. 1) I had Vincent being the one to ask how 4-leaf clovers came about, but because he believes in them, he'd have to say "discovered", which seemed clunky, and 2) I had Fran and the kids dressed in old timey clothes to suggest they were from the past, but it wasn't very clear what was going on. Rather than push through the issues, I deci...

I'm holding this one back from going live until St Patrick's Day, but it's been 7 days since I posted it to Webtoon so I figured I'd give you wonderful folks a slightly earlier release! ;)

J bought the kids some walkie talkies for Christmas -well, SANTA did, as they were in their stockings. They were these crap little ones that claimed to be "The Worlds Smallest Walkie Talkies" -just something J -err SANTA!- grabbed on his way out of Barnes and Noble. They didn't work very well, but still produced the above result; kids standing next to each other, marveling at how they could hear the other talk.
If you watch the animation ab...

I find shared pop-culture moments hilarious and took a chance that others would too! I knew not everyone would know what bit in Ghostbusters I was referring to, but I gambled on enough knowing that people could be filled in in the comments -or be intrigued enough to Google it.
For those who haven't seen it, there's a bit in Ghostbusters where Ray has a dream about a lady ghost who unzips his pants and appears to ...

We were leaving Walmart when my 8yo pointed to the missing persons poster and asked whet it was. I answered as in the comic and he replied in kind -but more surprised than panicked. We both laughed as I explained and he said "That's good because otherwise I wouldn't want to come back to this dangerous store again!" As you can see, I upped the drama for the comic version! :)
I dabbled with removing the text in the 2nd panel so the reader would have to think a bit...

Putting a live-in grandparent in the dog family opened the door to some new dynamics. My kids were into Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends at the time and it made me think Bunny's mom could be a cute lil old lady like Madame Foster. J suggested I could get more content if she was difficult, like Louis' mom from Malcom in the Middle. Meeting somewhere in the middle produced Baba -a tough old broad from the old country, but with a cheeky sense of humor!
February's Dog Comic! Had fun with this one! :)

Remaster of a 2019 comic:

I played around with pushing their expressions a lot more, but the simplicity of the original kept overshadowing the updates, so I ended up just updating the character models.
Since 2019 I've also found that adding that tiny bit of height can have to huge impact on the size of the characters for 3 row comics. Bigger characters = bigger faces = more f...

Alright, so this one sort of happened, but not in the way you think! We were invited to a friends girls birthday party. When I mentioned that it might be Frozen themed my boys both made faces and said they wouldn't go to an "Elsa Party"! I told them that the good thing about Elsa parties is the cake usually has her on, so what's it like when it gets cut...? -I made a knife cutting throat gesture. Big evil smiles all round! Let's go! We get there and I reali...

Accidently released this a day early on Twitter, so I thought I better set it live here too!
Based on a true story which I'll share here soon!
Realized I never did the write up for this one! This started as a crossover comic:

Joel and Dog Dad (name still TBD!) are good friends who rib on each other. I wanted to show the playful nature of their friendship here, but because it's the first time they've interacted, I worried it could be read as purely confrontational.
I showed the roughs to J and he suggested usi...

This was an actual thing that happened a while ago. I didn't personally think it was comic worthy, but every time I got stuck for ideas J would bring it up, so he obviously found it funny! I'd also realized with the new kitten that this had the additional layer of being a cat joke too, so I went for it!
I initially had it as 2 panels, but the first panel was a little chaotic and I didn't like Joel's reaction in the 2nd. When it had happened, J had been walking past, about to...

I started this one a long time ago, based on some real life comments, but I didn't know how to end it! J suggested Fran going like "Flower Cat Meme", to which I said "What the heck is that?!" It's odd how social media works, a classic meme to one person can completely miss another by! I looked it up and it was funny:

I was going to try to make Fran do the pose, but it wasn't r...

The first comic inspired by knowing a real life kitty -Fiasco is crazy about teaser wands and does a cartoonish little butt wiggle just before he pounces. J said it looked like we were fishing for cats, so he bought a fishing rod style wand, which in turn gave him the idea for this comic. As he was describing it to me he said they should be having a beer at the end with Joel with a bandage on his cheek. He meant in hospital, but in my mind they were in an ambulance. When I s...

My oldest said this last month and I tweeted it:

No one actually said anything about the "disregard" (I think they all know how weird my kid is by now haha!) but I always feel funny transcribing something he's said and wondering if I should change it to make it more "realistic"! 😅
Every day I see parents post the most ridiculous things their kids have said and afterwards there's alway...

Sorry I've been away so long. Had planned on starting up again at the beginning of January, but then a Fiasco happened!
People often assume I chose cats for my comic because I'm a cat-person, when actually, all these years, I've only owned dogs! Why'd I pick cats then? Because they're so expressive! Their eyes, tails and fur communicate the inner turmoil of parenting so much better than any other animal could.
My dog, Link, passed a couple of years ago. &nb...

Christmas craziness (with 1 less day to prep!). Post Christmas clean up and now New Years!
