I'm not sure when to post this one. I personally don't allow Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving, but would this be funnier if posted before?
BONUS Panel:

I needed to poo the other day and got the idea for this comic! π
During the main event there's contractions too, which are their very own level of hell, but that "needing to push" thing you hear about is 100% the same as "I gotta poop". I wasn't warned about this and I remember an intense desire to run to the loo real quick before we started getting the baby out!
You often do poop as well. You worry you'll be embarrassed, but by the time it happens you have other co...

My 7yo can be difficult, so I like to keep the lines of communication open with his teachers. I'd been getting a lot of not so good reports home, so I was overjoyed when this one arrived!

Brimming with pride I immediately wrote back to say how wonderful that was to hear. When he got home, I told 7yo all about how impressed his teacher was with his creative ideas. It wasn't unt...

I get very anxious about Halloween candy. On one hand I feel the parental responsibility to limit it, but at the same time, maybe it's a good thing for them to experience a self inflicted tummy ache? Then they start feeding it to me and all bets are off.
Last year I realized them bribing me to keep quiet had a bit of a mafia vibe to it. I thought it would make a good comic, but by then it was too late, so I wrote the idea down for this year.
I enjoyed the ...

All the comictober members get to suggest words and one of mine was "fairy tale". I knew it had potential, but when crunch time came I was drawing a blank. So I did what I always do: LISTS!
After brainstorming on the various fairy tales, The Three Bears was the obvious winner. The thought of a child ever declaring stogy porridge to be "just right" was absolutely ridiculous to me. I had the idea of him telling the 3 bears the third porridge was "too gross",...

My kid is VERY creative....
BONUS Panel:

I had a lot of fun making the zombie comic last year, so I thought I'd try a robot version. For these kinds of comics, I make a list of all the typical family things (bedtime, mealtimes, getting kids ready etc) and imagine how things might go down in a zombie/robot/whatever world.
I LOVE Futurama, so I wanted to channel that with my robots. I realized the way robots talk is similar to The Beings ...

I started doing this one for Comictober Day 23: Apocalypse. It's supposed to be the 4 Horsemen of the Kidpocalypse. J came up with the 4 names (a play on War, Pestilence, Famine and Death) and I drew it. The problem is I interpreted Deaf as being a dad who is oblivious to the chaos around him, contentedly playing his Switch. This can for sure happen sometimes and I think people would find it funny, BUT- it also makes me uncomfortable dunking on dads. It's s...

I have a notorious sweet tooth. I don't hide my candy in the toilet, but I do squirrel it away on the higher shelves in the larder. I'll probably have to get sneakier as my kids get older, but I have read about some funny hiding places online. That gave me the inspiration for this comic.
I originally drew them hiding the candy under the sofa cushion, then she unzips it to reveal ...

This one will be going out Nov 1st. I thought of it last year after Halloween, but by then the timing was off, so I had to sit on it until now.
Edit: Literally just finished this bonus panel which I forgot I had to do!

I never read any Harry Potter until this year. J's a huge fan of the movies, so I've seen them all, but evidently I space out when a CGI creature isn't on the screen, because I can't remember much of what happens. We're on the 4th book now and it's been an absolute joy reading them to 7yo. He's a very grounded, "old soul" type of kid; into science and not much for whimsy, but these books have really turned him around! He's suddenly into magic and monsters and musing wh...

Comictober Day 22: Artificial Intelligence
I had too much fun with this one! BONUS panel is incoming, but I couldn't wait to show you guys what I had so far! :)
EDIT: Showed this comic to 7yo and explained about scientific names.
7yo "What's the scientific name for butt?"
Me "Gluteus Maximus."
7yo "What's the scientific name for chicken?"
Me googling it "Gallus gallus domesticus."
7yo: "Guess what?"
Me grinning, seeing wh...

Comictober has been useful because it's forcing me to create content on demand, rather than waiting for the kids to do something funny. I've always said the characters are based on us, rather than us. To me, they are their own "people" with their own stories to tell and I'm relieved I'm getting better at generating those stories, because I'm acutely aware I only have a certain amount of time to crib from my real kids before they'll be too old and I'll be on my ow...

I brainstormed on the Comictober word "Boogeyman", trying to think of some twist on the classic monster under the bed trope. I kept working through ideas until arrived at this one. I had some fun with the monster! I knew the punchline would land better if he was genuinely horrifying.
I looked at my friend JTA's horror art for inspiration. When you want to draw in a different...

Been looking for an excuse to do a Harry Potter one since I started reading the books with 7yo. It's my first time reading them and we're really enjoying it! :)
(Update!) BONUS Panel:

Every time I get into one of these infuriating back & forths with my oldest, I think to myself what a brilliant evil genie he'd make. He delights in turning my requests around and complying -but not. It makes everything take forever and drives me nuts. Often I just end up losing my cool, but sometimes, if I have a bit more time (and patience!) I'll play along. It usually doesn't work, but it entertains me.
This comic has happened (several times) but without t...

One bedtime 7yo interrupted me reading with "Did you know that M&Ms are all different species?" It was so random and had absolutely nothing to do with anything -I loved it! π
I've wanted to do a "woken up by creepy kid" comic for a while, but honestly 7yo has never done it. His style is more scream until we come to him. 4yo clearly didn't want us missing out on this classic parenting memory and has recently started creeping about during thunderstorms. Just...

I may or may not come back and do a bonus panel for this one. It feels like there should be a joke in Vincent telling a story that would scare his parents, but I haven't quite put my finger on it. Honestly I just kind of want an excuse to draw Vincent with the flashlight, because those panels are super fun! :)
BONUS Panel update! Thanks for the ideas! (Used another one for the Boggart bonus!)

This basically happened. I WISH I could find the actual letter, but I've been searching up and down with no luck. I believe it said something along the lines of "To Mommy and Daddy, sorry for writing this." It had us chuckling at the absurd self fulfilling prophecy nature of it, but I wasn't sure if it would work as a comic.
To make things more obvious here, I added in the line about stealing the pen, which he had done, just not written about ...
