Pinata Evolution

I don't know why I'm so obsessed with the creatures tearing apart pinata's, but this has been a reoccurring theme for me for the last few years!

My first rendition was back when our eldest was only one year old and I was still a few years away from dreaming up Litterbox.  I fell behind during the 2015 INKtober event (where you get a drawing prompt for each day of October) and ended up combining the 2 days I'd missed: "Candy" and "Gore", resulting in Care Bears tearing apart a pinat...

Making of "Zoomies"

Had this idea for a while but wasn't quite sure how to draw it.  Inspiration suddenly struck last week!

I've been living with dogs too long and initially had them running as a pack.  I watched some videos of actual cat zoomies and found they were a lot more chaotic.  Here were the cat reference pics I used for the poses:

Nooooooooooooooooo!!

BONUS Panel:

Sorry for the uptick in remasters of late.  It's tricky to get a flow going with the kids home and I figure it's better to do remasters than get stuck and draw nothing at all!

This one always worked very well. so I didn't change too much other than updating the art.  I was really pleased with the angle change in the final...

Drawing Seuss Style

Here's how I converted Vince into Dr. Seuss style!  I went through "Cat in the Hat", "Green Eggs and Ham" and "Hop on Pop" taking photos of useful parts -Cat's ears, bear kids face, boys body and Sam I Am's legs.  I superimposed them on top of each other and traced the results.  Then I filled in the gaps, using what I'd learnt from the rest.

I'm quite chuffed how it came out! :)  I'm tempted to do a whole strip in this style!  Lucky for me, J's an excellent poet...

Making of "No Good Deed"

Sorry I've got a bit behind on posting these Making Of's.  I put them together on my PC, but haven't had much time in my office of late with potty training in full swing.  Thankfully I do my comics on my iPad, so at least I can sit in the loo with him and still work! :)

This one is based on something 3yo actually said.  I'm happy to report he didn't actually hit me in the face, just a rubbish little baby slap on the leg.  I upped it to a face slap in the comic becaus...

Emergency

I hear a blood curdling scream downstairs. I run down, panicked.

3yo is holding up his hand. Distraught. Big, fat tears rolling down his cheeks.

Me: What’s the matter??!!

3yo: I….....*SNIFF* …......wanna…….*SNORT*........ hi-five.

Ghosthause: Ha! I kicked you in the butt!

5yo: You didn't kick me in the butt! You kicked me in the butt *cheek*!

Ghosthause: Yeah, of course! I wouldn't kick you in the butthole, weirdo! Did you think all this time I’ve been trying to kick you in the butthole and just missing?

Daily Review

(Pre-Corona)
Me: What did you do at school today?

3yo counting off on fingers: Hamburga. Nana. Cheez…

Me: OK, that’s what you ATE, but what did you DO?

*3yo thinks REALLY hard*

3yo: Hamburga. Nana. Cheez…

Making of 'Helping"

This was practically happened word for word the other day.  J was drying off some brined chicken -something I used to help with, but the last few times I didn't do a terribly good job and the chicken ended up too salty!  The only other difference was the punchline being J saying "Well there's a comic for you!" :)

….buuuuut…. I thought the cake would look better. 😒

Me: I thought we did good! Homemade cakes never look like store ones.

5yo: Oh I see! They just look rubbish? 😃

Making of "Timeout"

Having the kids home all the time has been really draining.  5yo's go to "entertainment" is bugging 3yo and 3yo is going through a phase where anything 5yo does is an infraction that needs to be reported to us.  Meanwhile I'm trying to keep sane by drawing, but when I do, the "mom guilt" kicks in BAD!

So when they do play nicely together it's music to my ears!  I tweeted about one such golden occasion the other day:

Making of "Noise Downstairs"

This happened the other night.  I was going to bed around midnight and heard a noise downstairs.  Checked the camera and turned out 5yo had gone down about a 1/2hr before and was plopped down in front of the TV playing Splatoon.  He'd never done anything like this before and had been asleep when I checked in on him earlier.  We went down to reprimand him and send him back to bed.  After he left, J turned to me starry eyed and said how impressed he was! 🤣

Making of "Opinions"

J came up with the exchange from panel 2 onwards and figured it would work well in a mom group situation.  I have personally done breastfeeding, pumping and formula, so I wanted to focus on the shaming issue rather than one vs another.

J suggested I make the other lady a cow because that's just a funny visual.  Some people have questioned her "udder" placement, but my thinking was that if all the other animals in the universe have "human" anatomy, why would the cow be any diff...

Current Events

Sorry for my absence this week. I have not been coping well with the lockdown and needed to take a break for my own mental health.

Historically, comedy has been an important coping mechanism for getting people through tough times, so I’ve decided I’m going to keep my channels focused on that purpose. It’s not that I don’t care about current events, in fact I *strongly* encourage everyone to listen, research and do what they can to support making the world a better place, but thi...
