Making of "Little Jerk"

Our 5yo was an ANGRY baby and we often joke that some of our love comes from Stockholm syndrome.

Getting the angles right on this one was challenging.  I always make a point of trying to show as many faces as I can, as large as possible -because you can pack extra humor into the expressions.

My 1st rough had Vincent's face hidden and I didn't like that they weren't clearly looking at him in the last panel.

I fixed those issues in the 2nd draft, but wanted h...

Sorry for no pre-release on this one, I literally just finished it.  I took a bit of time away, but I'm ready to get the comic cogs turning again! :)

COMIC: Baby Shark (remastered)

I've been feeling a bit blurgh lately -looking down my ideas list and feeling uninspired.  I've got like this before and I know it will pass, but I didn't want to just sit and do nothing, so I thought I'd hit another remaster.

COMIC: Curse of the Manwolf

This was supposed to be a funny little side project I did with some friends.  We found out that the 1st full moon of a new year is called a "wolf moon", so we decided to get together, watch werewolf movies, grill up some meat and draw some wolf inspired art.  I never intended to make this a whole comic, but I couldn't show the transformation in a single panel, so the idea ballooned!

HeyBobGuy's baby arrived so I can finally make this one public!  Here's my guest comic starring his grim reaper characters Hannah & Morty.

Making of "The Diet Starts TODAY!"

I started out with the characters the other way around in this one as it's probably more relatable to have the wife talking about diets.  But in our household it's J that makes these kind of bold statements, so I flipped them around to match.

I had Fran with a thing of Oreos in the last panel, but as Dad Cat isn't so into sweets, we had to think up something different.  J came up with the idea of him producing an enormous pizza out of nowhere.

I was going to have t...

Guest Comic Character Designs

The artist behind the Hey Bob Guy webcomic is expecting his first child very soon.  He’s planning to take a bit of time away once the baby arrives, so he’s asked some webcomic artists to do guest comics.  They need to feature his characters, grim reaper father and daughter, Morty & Hannah:

It Wasn't Chocolate.

J and the kids are always creating quality content for me when I leave the house! 🤣

I've added a commemorative "It wasn't chocolate" t-shirt here!

Making of "New Years"

This wasn't the strongest joke ever and I almost didn't do it, but I thought the addition of the "only just" setting sun and Dad Cat's t-shirt would make up for it.

I wanted to have Fran sort of curled up like a cat in the armchair -but a bit awkward because she obviously has a humanoid body.  I struck gold on Google image search!  I had to adapt it a little to work around Fran's enormous head.

Making of "Teaching the Younglings (remaster)"

It was weird having the make the hands "less good" for the remaster. I'd originally taken a bunch of reference photos for the closeups of the cupcake (and got to eat a cupcake!) but I had to "dumb it down" for the new style. Funny how sometimes less is more!

The first time I posted I underestimated how mind blowing the "cupcake hack" would be to a lot of people.  It's something I figured out when I was little and I'd seen a meme or 2 about it in recent years, so I figured it ...

Making of "Christmas Magic"

With J and I both being only children (who are still big kids ourselves!) and grandparents overseas, we always end up with an INSANE number of Amazon packages around the holidays.  I'd thought by this year, 5yo would start asking "difficult" questions about them, but he still seems completely oblivious to their presence (ha!)

I knew we couldn't be alone, so I thought it would make a good strip, but I had to be reeeeal sneaky about putting it together.  5yo often pokes hi...

Making of "Santa Photos"

I always think how ridiculous we must look, jumping around like idiots and making fart noises to hopefully catch a glimmer of a smile on camera.   Part of me wishes they'd take a photo of the parents too, so people can see how hard we work for pictures -but I'm also REALLY glad they don't! 😅

I considered making the Literverse Santa a reindeer, but the polar bear shape was just too perfect.  Here's me working him out:

Making of "The Lies - Part 3"

I hadn't decided what Grampaw looked like yet when I roughed this out, so it's a bit confusing with 2 Dad Cats.  I had swung the camera around to the other side of the table to make the 1st panel read better, but I decided it would be less confusing (and less work!) to keep the angle the same and just break that panel in two.

I was initially going to draw the mountain and cosmos backgrounds, but J managed to find some royalty free photos I could use instead.  I really liked th...

Making of "The Lies - Part 2"

This one is heavily based on the lies J's Dad would tell him growing up.  They went to Scotland on vacation when he was little, but his parents found that Loch Ness was a pretty long drive and couldn't be arsed to go, so they just told him the pond outside the hotel was Loch Ness.  Every time he turned away, his Dad would point and say he'd *just* missed the monster.  It wasn't until he was much older that J discovered he hadn't even BEEN to Loch Ness!  🤣

Grampaw Cat Design

J wanted this character to be a cross between his actual dad and "The Most Interesting Man in the World" from the Dos Equis adverts.  We both agreed a Maine Coon cat was fitting.

He took first pass on the design (top left) and handed it back to me.  I pulled in a bunch of reference pictures I liked and tried to inject them into his design.  I loved the triangular ey...
