Patreon fee update

Patreon listened and the new fee and payment structure is NOT happening, thank all the gods. We continue business and pleasure as normal <3

Patreon pledge fee

Some of you may have heard that Patreon is revamping their fee policy. In an effort to "let us creators get a larger percentage of the actual pledges" (bullshit), they're going to remove the service fee from us and instead charge YOU, our beloved patrons, that fee starting Dec. 18th.

That means you'd be paying your pledge + 2.9% fee + $0.35.

This is utter bullshit. I'm entirely happy to pay the service fee for using Patreon, but they're not making this an optional change...

I start with a small thumbnail that I stretch to fit the full size page and use that as a layout guide as I draw the actual art for the page on a new layer.

It was suggested to me that I'd talk over the videos, explaining what I'm doing and talking crap about the characters. Is that something people would like?

Sketch commission and tier update!

First sketch commission for one of the Warrior tier-ers! 

Announcing also that I'll open one more slot to said tier next month, so get ready to grab it if you want a sketch commission like the above OR get your character or yourself in the comic + everything on the tiers below that.

Meanwhile I'm dying a little for not being able to work on the comic properly this month. I got a nice tsunami of work that I'm drawing my way through and it's taking up my days and nigh...

Shading UL chapter 5 cover

This is how I did the colors for the latest cover! I came back to it later and did some tweaks that are not on the video, but otherwise it's the whole coloring process.

Akseli Gallen-Kallela - inspiration behind the UL covers

I color the Unknown Lands covers differently than... pretty much everything else I do.

The reason is the covers have been a bit of an homage to the Finnish romantic nationalist artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, and his beautiful, epic illustrations of the Kalevala (Finnish national epic, UL is heavily influenced by this too). I love his art so much. He brings the mythos alive with such beauty and magic. I wanted a touch of that magic into Unknown Lands as well.

Chapter 5 cover WIP

Ahhh pencils for the cover of chapter 5! Guys, I'm really excited for this chapter. We're going to see some creepy new colors on everyone

New Chapter 1!

This past weekend I was at Thought Bubble in the UK and brought a printed version of Unknown Lands... just not what you'd seen before! This was the new version of chapter 1. The story is the same, just with better art, better pacing and a bunch more background info. Also some updated designs for "NPCs" :D

The gods - pencils

New versions of the random (or some of them now not-so-random) gods shown in the very beginning of the comic! It's so fun to design characters with absolutely no need for practicality at all :D

This means I'm drawing you a mini comic about how Mischief got those tattoos on his chin. It wasn't exactly your standard way of getting a tattoo and it changed him for good.

New Ch1 thumbs

Some-friggin'-how, despite adding a bunch of stuff and even extending the new chapter 1 to what used to be 6 pages into chapter 2, the revised chapter 1 is still 20 pages long! Feels so short compared to the other ~30 page chapters (or 41 in chapter 3's case), but very convenient when you want to print it :D

These pages also feel a bit weird because usually I do 11x17 pages, but no printer around here does the American comics format (unless you ask for special measurements), so these ...
