Sonja's Run

Sonja goes for a run with her bunny. 

Made this over the Easter weekend. My characters don't really come to life for me till they start moving. As you can see I've already started experimenting with her look. The character will fall into their own design as I draw and redraw them. So I'm pretty sure this isn't their final forms but we're getting closer. :)

I made the bunny a bit smaller and can already imagine him "Barrel Rolling" someone like Blanka does from Street Fighter....

Bubbu the Necromancer

So here's a little test animation of what I'm thinking of doing for most of the main Akumi characters. Basically, a little action animation followed by a still frame title card. In the animation above, the only major thing that happens is the zombie giant crouches and Bubbu points at something but I plan to make more dynamic action scenes for other characters. Then later, promo trailers of actual game footage can be spliced in after the character animations.

So this is my first approach at going back to the traditional animation principals I learned in my animation classes. Meaning the only difference here is I redrew keyframes and inbetweens instead of trying to cheat it with moving graphics.  Well... for the most part. 

But this is the method of animation I want to use for upcoming Akumi anim...

Tough Little Red Riding Hood

Ahhh... this turned out nice! I love the cell shaded look with just a hint of a painted look. I guess this looks more like some comicbook coloring styles too.  I held myself back from overly detailing this to keep the cartoony feel... but later I might make a copy and go crazy with detail and see how that looks too. But I'm really happy with the results! It came together fast and easy.

Oh I'm gonna bring her into the Akumiverse too with some slight edits. Good times!

Commission: Void Venom

Last commission for this month! Really happy with this one. The human face is actually a portrait of the person who commissioned this.  I rarely draw this type of hulkish physic while maintaining human proportions. Usually I go full silverback gorilla proportions.  I also had fun pulling back from my overly detailed game art style for a more cell shaded cartoon look.  I'll always be attracted to and enjoy the fun, cartoony looking art over anything realistic.  This one str...

Commission: Starstorm

Oh man last week was just a week of commission work.  I avoid doing any commission work unless I feel like I can really bring something fresh to other people's ideas. Otherwise, it's not worth my time. But when I'm in that flow, creating other people's vision helps me evolve as well.

New Character?

Introducing, Captain... I'm not sure yet. Boom? Blitz Boy...  So I've always loved the spastic, over-confident, over the top heroes of anime. It makes it even funnier when they fall on their face. But that never deters them. They get right back up and charge forward again.  I think that's what I'm trying to encapsulate with this guy. A alpha-male who thinks he knows it all but really doesn't.

Entering Art Challenge: Tough Little Red Riding Hood

So I've decided to enter an art challenge to polish my skills some more. Theme: "Tough Little Red Riding Hood".  I don't normally make thumbnails because it's faster not to but decided to do it for this challenge.  You can see the advantage and disadvantage. New Character Concept: Sonja

I've got a new character idea. Sonja the Beast Master. I'm thinking she'll have this bunny that can grow big and fight/protect her sort of like a Pokemon. She'd have other beasts she could command as well.

Frank O'Rourke, a long time supporter of Akumi put together this Akumi wallpaper for your mobile devices. I attached it to this post along with an iPhone specific wallpaper. I can't have Akumi's face covered by the clock! Yeah I’m posting this at 3am! 😴

Alita Battle Angel Sketch

Miltonius Arts Patreon Vlog #001

Excuse the bedhead, I just woke up and realized I'd caught a cold. But there are things that must get done so I championed on!  I wanted to spent a day putting this vlog together but of course that turned into 4 days.  I guess doing these once a month isn't too much though. Keeps me accountable and it also keeps a record of what I've accomplished.

We're mid February already so I'll try to make the next one mid March.
