Elena’s collateral ligament bulged. The joint strengthened, preparing to anchor claws. Or they would have, had it not been for Sophie miscasting the spell. But all Elena watched with newly slitted eyes, she saw her nails grow out not into full claws, but into the same half-nail-half-claws that graced Sophie’s fingers. All she could do was scream, exposing her lengthening canines.

As Sophie looked away, her eyes still hurt. They felt as if she had just gotten her eyes dilated by an ophthalmologist. The true cause of her discomfort was that her irises were contracting and changing shape. They elongated vertically and changed her circular pupils into slits. All of the sudden the dimly lit room looked brighter to her.

While Sophie could read Latin quite well, her pronunciation was abysmal. An unfortunate result of being self taught. Not that Elena would have noticed. But then, as she was about halfway through the incantation, something jolted Sophie. Even with her gorgeous green eyes wide open, she couldn’t see what it was. Little did she realize that it was magic. Misunderstood, misused, and now...unleashed!

Sophie tried to read the Latin to the best of her ability. It was...difficult to interpret. It certainly wasn’t Cicero’s Latin. It seemed...more archaic. But she felt that she understood the gist of it. The spell would make a female an ideal mate. She didn’t love the animalistic wording the spell seemed to have, but she reasoned it as a simple difference in culture.
